Re: Svi738 to msx2

2000-09-10 Thread Tomas Karlsson

Hi,

The pcb contrary to the schematics does not have open spaces for IC 23 and
IC24.

You can either desolder or piggyback them.

Question 1:Will an extra 0.1 uF condensators be neccesary if the chip
below already has one?.

No, it's not neccesary. 0.1 uF will do the job.

Question 2:On the extra ram chips (piggybacked ones) the pin to be
connected to the CAS1 signal is pin 16 right?

Yes, IC23 and IC24 are connected to CAS1 with pin 16.

Question 3:Which pin on the vdp (9938-msx2) is CAS1 ?

Take a look at the schematics and you will see that the VDP pin 60 is CAS1.

Tomas Karlsson

Hah, that was Sander Zuidema. Mail him at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The V9958 should be no problem then, but the YM2413 will be, unless you
order 100 of them. The point is that he has to order at least 100 pieces of
each and no-one else was interested in the YM2413. Also note that you have
to pay in advance to Sander, so that he will not run any risks.

Ok, thanks Manuel. But why there is nobody interested in FM? You can find
FM easily in Europe?

Svi738 to msx2

2000-09-10 Thread JP Grobler

Hi

Thanks for all the help so far. I fitted the new vram 128k and
everything seems to be OK. But how can I test the video ram to see if
all are working? Testram still only detects 16k vram (maybe the
program assumes this because it detects msx1 roms?)

I wil replace my roms in a week or two, maybe three..

By the way I ran Blade lords and the sunny intro from sunrise showed
beautifully, but nothing further.

Thanks

MSX article in ASCII

2000-09-10 Thread Manuel Bilderbeek

Hi there,

For anyone who can read Japanese, please look at the following pictures and
translate the text for me/us! :)

http://www4.freeweb.ne.jp/diary/iakira/toukou/niikou/DSCF0090.JPG

The second is a probably readable close up of the most interesting part.
Please mail me the translation!

Again: this is page 58 of ASCII Vol. 9, September 2000.

Best regards,

Manuel

Re: MSX article in ASCII

2000-09-10 Thread Manuel Bilderbeek

Hi Again,

Found something via CastService (www.castservice.com) which is mentioned in
that article. I searched for MSX and found this:
http://www.castservice.com/profile.asp?no=2118table=tbl_vod_programmain=vo
d

However, I cannot replay Real Media here. So, please take a look at it!

In the meantime I also got a translation of the first three paragraphs of
that article. The rest could not be understood by my Japanese collegue.

It is an interview with a Korean guy called Kim (of course), first name
Namfun (or something)
The first column says:
Q - When did you start using a computer?
A - When I was in elementary school. I started using an MSX. Even now I use
a Sony or Matsushita MSX.
Q - What pcs were used in Korea, before the IBM PC?
A - Almost all pcs were Apple II or MSX. When I was in elementary school, I
used to read MSX Magazine. That magazine was sold in Seoul in secret. To buy
it I had to take the highway bus and the subway. It took me three hours.
Q - Recently there was an MSX event in Japan. MSX is in a revivalboom. What
do you think?
A - In Korea there was also an MSX meeting, so we communicate with Japanese
users. Every 2 years we have an event in Korea. (MB: now the subject turns,
which I do not follow!) But in Korea, ROms were very expensive. We loaded
them from tape or Megarompacks (MB: whatever that might be! Some sort of
MegaRAM?). That took 30 or 40 minutes. I had to wait and sit in front of my
pc. (MB: thus, his MSX) And sometimes it failed to load. At the time Yun MB:
whoever that is?) was working on MSX at Daewoo and now he is the 2nd
president of CastService. I also work at that company.

There it ends. The rest I hope to get from other people...
The link above I found from the www.castservice.com site. Indeed a Korean
site. They seem to cooperate with AkibaTV, which was also present on MSX
Den-Yu Land 2000.

Help!

Best regards,

Manuel
