Yep,probably.

The fun part is that I never received the original mail with the attachment
 - only a warning mail from the mail-daemon that the attachement was infected
(which also gave me the info that Jeroen Smael and me are the only ppl from
ICT on the the msx-list ;-)):

NO I get this F*cking virus about 10-20 times a DAY
BTE, the virus is W95.Hybris o W95.Hybris.gen (it depends on the
antivirus).

It probably got the [EMAIL PROTECTED] email address of some database.

Or it takes addresses from infected computers?

By the way, I received the virus with several different texts in the message
body (I've seen English, Portuguese and Spanish). Does the virus itself
modify the body text, or is there some "build your own virus" kit floating
around on the net?

DO NOT EXECUTE THE ATTACHMENT.I REPEAT:DO NOT EXECUTE THE ATTACHMENT.

The MSX mailinglist server only checks for large messages, so small
attachments can slip through. The list is migrating to a different list
server program soon, hopefully with that new software we can disallow all
attachments.

IMHO it would be nice if html messages could be blocked aswell. :)

YES! But html is usually sent as attachment, so most of them will be
blocked thus ;)

I'm in favor of that, but I don't know whether it would be possible. Ideally
the mail server would convert HTML to plain text and send that over the list.

Re: MSX speech synth?

There was an article about it in one of the old MSX Club Magazines. The

Please please please can you find this article and scan it in, or at least
pass on the issue number and pages so someone else can. If there really is
speech synthesis in the CX5M, this is the only use of Yamaha's CSM mode in
the YM-series chips I know of.

CSM is composite sinusoidal modelling, and disassembling the ROM (which I
desoldered last night, incidentally) may give emulator authors an idea how
to emulate the CSM mode in other YM chips, such as YM3526 OPL (part of
MSX-Audio).

It's bit 7 of register 14h in the YM2151 OPM and bit 7 of register 08h in
the YM3526 OPL.

Expanding CX5M to 128K

2000-12-19 Thread Richard Atkinson

Looking inside the CX5M, I noticed that it has a rather curious
arrangement of DRAM. There are 8 4116 chips for the 16K of VRAM attached
to the TMS video chip and 4 41416 chips for the 32K of main memory. This
is curious because these are two different 16K technologies, one 1 bit
wide and the other 4 bits. Why use both in a design? Surely 6 41416 chips
would have been cheaper?

Perhaps it has something to do with refreshing. Maybe the TMS can't
refresh 8 row addresses that the 41416s require, whereas the main circuit
can. In that case, it ought to be quite easy to replace those 16K x 4
DRAMs with some 41464 64K x 4 chips, and play around with the slot select
signals a bit to get 128K in the CX5M. Has this been done before and been
documented somewhere on the net?
