[MSX] MSX clones: it's possible?

2002-08-25 Thread Enrico Barbisan

This is my dream: to find unknown MSX clones, mainly in the East or Arabian
countries.

Could it be possible?

I found this site:

http://www.homecomputer.de/

with many home computers.

Soon,

Re: [MSX] Snatcher in Portuguese v0.7.0

2002-08-25 Thread Takamichi Suzukawa

Now it looks more like Brazil than Blade Runner to me... (I know that
Terry Gilliam film had nothing to do with real Brazil, but heh;).

Two major points;
1. Line break rule sometimes works strange. Too often a line ends after a
character or two, leaving rest of the line blank.
2. Unnatural pause occurs alot, especially prone to happen before pressione
espascio prompt

I'll personally report details later.

CTRL feature is fine. Now I only need to wait 15 seconds instead of 30
seconds (or even a minute) before loading a screen.

[MSX] PSG REPLACEMENT WORKS FINE!!!

2002-08-25 Thread Marco Antonio Simon Dal Poz

Hi people,

I am in my lab right now (yes, in a Sunday), this was the only way for
having some spare time for mounting a small circuit board for testing the
PSG implemented in an FPGA.

The VHDL code was already exhaustively tested through out simulations
(using Xilinx CAD software, Xilinx Foundation 3.1i), so what was missing
is a connection between the FPGA board and the MSX1 (Brazilian Expert 1.0
model). I finished the connections some minutes ago.

The scheme is the following: one removes the original PSG, connects the
DIP40 socket that I am using, which has the wiring ready for the FPGA
board (Xilinx XCS30XL-VQ100), turns on the MSX, loads the FPGA
configuration (in this moment the FPGA becomes from a unuseful chip into
an authentic PSG-replacement), gives a reset in the MSX and it works fine!

Right now I am listening for the thousand time the main theme from Venom
Strikes Back, which is a great test, because it uses the 3 audio channels,
the envelope generator and the noise channel. As I expected, everything
works fine, which shows that the simulations are very efficient.

And it has an advantage: the original PSG cannot work with a clock higher
than 4MHz, this PSG that I developed goes until 60MHz (using the FPGA
indicated above, I already made other simulations with other chips, and I
seems to work above 100MHz of maximum clock!!!)

The the result is the following: now we have a PSG replacement, and it can
be used in any MSX, whatever the clock is. In this case, we do not need to
insert wait-states or any other bad trick when someone want to use a
faster CPU (like Z180, Z380 or others).

For those who does not understang what I made, in the next weeks I will
take some pictures and put them in a directory in my homepage. In the next
Jau' MSX meeting I will make a presentation and a demonstration of this
prototype. I guarantee that it will be very interesting!

Now let's go to the questions and answers!

Greetings from Brazil.

[MSX] Snatcher v0.7.0

2002-08-25 Thread Daniel Caetano

[English]

  Hi,

Only one day, but almost 24 hours in front of the keyboard... (^=
A new release is ready. There are no big changes on the translation,
but some menus that were not translated are now translated, some more
graphics are translated (including Altamila to Altamira).
The major feature of this version is the presentation. Now
there are only three disks (as the original one) and the game
requires only 128KB again (like the original memory mapper version
by Martos).
The boot now is VERY fast.

  Well... that's all for now.

[Portugues]

  Opa,

Martos. Ah, o boot ficou bem mais rapido tambem.

  E' tudo por enquanto...

  Fui.

I have to correct this yet. But this is cosmetic. (^= I will do it in
versions 0.8.0 to 1.0.0. I have to sync the texts with the mouths too.
The break lines are made by hand, so it takes a lot of time. From the
middle to the finish of the game the line breaks are better placed because
I used a method that allows me to guess where the line finishes when
creating the texts.
Anyway, the Pressione Espaco messages appears on the same places they
would appear in Japanese version, since I had not changed these commands.
And empty spaces will always happens on the end of the lines, unless I
make some hiphenization, but this would be really hard work. (^=

I'll personally report details later.

  Ok...

CTRL feature is fine. Now I only need to wait 15 seconds instead of 30

If you get a faster MSX, it'll be even faster. (^= But twice the
speed is the fastest I could get on Turbo R. (^=

Would you mind describing what this is in MAXIMUM details? ;)

Ah, this was a mistake. This graphic is not translated yet.
It'll be translated on the next version (I hope). The change is
because PACHINKO means nothing in portuguese (specially if written
in japanese characters). So I had changed it. BA is the name of
a store here, on Brasil. And PAU in portuguese (the variation that
will happen because of broken neon) has a similar mean as CHINKO.
Got it? (^=

Hehehe... It's very nice to enable some features left disabled by
the original authors! (^=

[MSX] SD-Snatcher for Mapper and SCC+ music

2002-08-25 Thread Daniel Caetano

  Hi!

Thanks to Artemio now I'm a proud owner of a SCC+ from SD-Snatcher.
But I was very displeased to see that starcracks had made a version
of SD-Snatcher for normal SCC that uses my SCC+ as a normal SCC. \^=
Worst, the translated version was based on this cracked version.
I'm planning to re-adapt it to mapper and SCC+ use, and apply the
translation patch then...
But before start this work I would like to know if no one had
done this work before... I do not want to loose time I would be
spending on other threads (like working on English Snatcher... Hehe
BTW, I had already started this work).

  That's all for now.

  Thanks in advance...
