Hi David,

It's pretty simple. You'll want the following in your .muttrc:

set from="Your Name "
set realname="Your Name"
set imap_user=email.addr...@gmail.com
set folder="imaps://imap.gmail.com:993"
set spoolfile="+INBOX"
set postponed="+[Gmail]/Drafts"
set trash = "imaps://imap.gmail.com/[Gmail]/Trash"
set smtp_url="smtps://email.address\@gmail@smtp.gmail.com"
set imap_pass="supersecretpassword"
set smtp_pass="supersecretpassword"

That should be enough to get you the bare essentials. If you've enabled
two-factor authentication (I recommend you do!), then you should go to
myaccount.google.com and generate an app password and use that for imap_pass
and smtp_pass instead of your real password.

HTH!

Tutorial for mutt IMAP with gmail address

2020-11-09 Thread D.J.J. Ring, Jr.
Can someone recommend a tutorial of configuring mutt to work with
gmail IMAP directly via the muttrc file?

Thanks,

David

On mine that seems to collapse/uncollapse all threads. Same as V.
Toggling one thread on mine is v.

Neither switches between threaded and unthreaded.

I'm assuming POP is configured on the server end (so, for example,
you can send e-mail with other MUAs).

Perhaps changing the .muttrc line to:

   set smtp_url="smtp://rol42%40web...@smtp.web.de:587"

will help?

Best regards,

I don't believe that error message occurs when sending an email. It
would occur if you manually tried to copy or save a message to a POP3
mailbox.

my muttrc says:

set smtp_url = "smtp://ro...@web.de@smtp.web.de:587"

You might try increasing the debug level to 2 or 3 and seeing if you can
watch the messages just when you try to send.

By chance do you have the "record" variable set to a POP3 mailbox? That
wouldn't work either.

Hello!

One thing is that it may be necessary to escape the '@' sign in your username
in smtp_url (I'm only saying this because I noticed that I escape it in my
configuration file).

So, for example:

set smtp_url = "smtp://username\@domain@smtp.domain.tld:port"

I wonder if something else is wrong, though. Would you be able to attach your
configuration file *after deleting sensitive information* (for example, don't
keep the password in there!)? That may help us figure out what's going on.

Sincerely,

Chiraag

sending does not work

2020-11-09 Thread Roland Heß
Hi,

completely new to mutt ...
Getting mail works fine, sending not. I tried to run mutt with -d 1 and get the
following message:

mutt_save_confirm() Kann Nachricht nicht in POP-Mailbox schreiben.
[Can not write message to POP-Mailbox]

my muttrc says:

set smtp_url = "smtp://ro...@web.de@smtp.web.de:587"

Thanks for helping.

Thanks, very much, interesting (not easily intuited) sequence. But now I know.

Thanks again!

change to "index view" and key in "O" which provides sorting criteria for
the "index view".

there also exists a very fine manual.

Hi,

I am looking around for some keystroke setting that will make it is possible to
toggle between threaded and unthreaded views of the message list. Is this
possible?

Many thanks!
