[MLO] Where is the inbox in my MLO Desktop version?
Where is the inbox in my MLO Desktop version? I do have a folder called but it´s empty. MLO iOS show the items in inbox which i added but even after manual starting synchronisation 10 times on iOS and PC-Version the folder stays empty. Can anybody help me? [MLO] Need filter argument "has no time"
I would like to see tasks (using advanced filter) which are due on and before tomorrow (Today +1) but i don´t want to see tasks which are due today in 2 hours. (has a time). It would be easy if there would be the argument (has no time). But i can´t find it and can´t think of any workaround. Any ideas? [MLO] Found two more bugs
Hello everybody, i guess i found two more bugs in the current desktop version. Both are quite annoying. Could please somebody confirm those and offer a workaround? That would be great. 1. If you press Return on a selected Task (Tasklist has focus) most of the time you can edit the name of the task. But quite often nothing happens and the focus gets off the tasklist. 2. If your view is in manual sorting and you are in top hierachy it´s impossible to use CTRL + X, V to cut, paste Tasks. It just don´t work. It works within subtasks. [MLO] Accessing Tasks via Command Line?
Does anybody tried to access a certain task by using the task ID and the
Command Line? I´m trying but somehow it does not work. In the help file you
can find tips by searching for Command Line I guess i get the synthax
wrong.
The path of my MLO.exe is:
*C:\Program Files (x86)\MyLifeOrganized.net\MLO\mlo.exe*
The path of my MLO Data file is:
*C:\- Dropbox\My Dropbox\Public\Alex.ml*
The taskid (GUID) of the task is:
*{4B3B139D-0A06-4389-A5F2-FD5D120D45EF}*
So whats the synthax for the whole line? I came up with:

[MLO] How can i jump to a certain task using the task id
If you open the MLO help and look up command line it says in Using the
command line that you can directly jump to a certain task using it´s id.
I tried several approaches but no one seems to work. My MLO File is Alex.ml
and the path is C:\- Dropbox\My Dropbox\Public\ The Task ID is
{F2365CA0-7141-4AA6-8148-5D85E0B9AD8D}
Those did not work:

I feel we think about this topic very similar. My Outlook/iCloud calendar i only use for appointments, meetings and so one. It would get very confusing if i would put tasks there. Sometimes i use a different approach and drag calendar elements into MLO. I absolutely agree with you about start and due dates. Unfortunately if it comes to custom views on mobile devices only filtering and sorting is possible. You only have one column in the tasklist and this is the task itself. You can as a second line display one date. And this is due date/time only. That´s the reason for my approach. Dear Dwight, nobody want´s to schedule ASAP tasks. Why should one? But if you know you can reach someone at 10:00 and his secretary then says he´s now reachable at 12:00 you need to postpone that task, right? I programmed hotkeys for that. So i just press the one hour defer button twice for defering that task. I think many users would appreciate such a function too. Some taskmanagers offer that functionality. Actually the problem scheduled tasks vs. ASAP tasks is an interesting one. A thinkable solution would be the possibility to have a chronological sortet list with the option to sort tasks which are not scheduled manually in this list. Let´s open a new thread for that. BTW Dwight i don´t get your hotkeys. What do i have to press and how much (time) are the selected tasks postponed? [MLO] Scheduled Tasks vs. ASAP Tasks (Best Practice)
I would like to share some thoughts regarding dealing with scheduled and not scheduled tasks. We all have tasks we need to do at a certain time and at a certain place. While the MLO concept of contexts takes wonderfully care of places/locations it´s less obvious how to deal best with start- or due dates and times. On the other hand we all have more than enough tasks we can do anytime. They have no dates and for that are ASAP Tasks. (As Soon As Possible) Ideally i would like to have one list of tasks which i could work from top to bottom. This list would contain all tasks sorted by start date. The ASAP tasks i would like to place between those tasks. Just as many tasks as i have time until the next scheduled tasks begins. Unfortunately exactly that is not possible. At the moment in MLO sorted lists it´s not possible to place manually tasks even if those don´t have that sorting parameter, right? My best idea at the moment is to work with kind of two lists in one which i do not consider as perfect. As i´m still a MLO Newbie you may have better ideas. 1. My list ist sorted by Due Date. Actually the Due Date is used as a start date. I use Due Date/Times instead of Start Date/Times as those are displayed on the iOS Devices. 2. There is a folder named ASAP above (older Due Date) the first scheduled task. The subtasks in that folder are the ASAP Tasks. 3. The ASAP Folder is always expanded. The subtasks are manually sorted. The next one i would like to start is at the very bottom. 4. This way my next scheduled task is always under my next ASAP task. I can quickly compare what to do next. The search begins from the selected task only in down direction and only visible tasks (not even ones in closed folders) are considered. This would really speed up your workflow. [MLO] Commiting to MLO. Cloud Sync Issues with Recurring tasks
Despite of the bugs already mentioned i decided to purchase MLO Windows and iOS and even subscribed to the cloud Syncservice. I´m still not sure if it was the right thing to do but i needed a mobile syncing solution fast. When buying MLO 2 for the iPhone on the Appstore i got a message that cloudsync still is critical and that i get free sync for rating the app. I wish i had this information before. ;-( I did not get free sync but subscribed to one year sync anyway. Although i got the sync kind of working i face the following issues: Most tasks with recurrence does not sync from the windows version to the iphone. Some however do but i don´t see any logic or connection why some are synced and others not. If i alter those tasks on the windows app they are recognized as changed by the cloud. But they get not synced to the phone. Instead after sync those tasks change their individual background colour given to the standard colour !!! WTF? I tried a dozen different sync files and reset Sync also several times. Can please anybody help me? I found a solution. If i use the actionfilter ALL and a complex advanced filter i can make those tasks visible on the phone without seeing completed tasks. Why they don´t appear in the other actionsfilter i still don´t understand. I got it work. You won´t believe how: I deleted stepwise about 20% of my tasks and pressed the syncbutton. After doing this 3-Times it worked. Then i pressed CTRL + Z (Undo) to undelete those tasks again. Then i had my normal MLO Win again. And Sync still worked. But most of my tasks were missing on the phone. They only appeared if i changed them before Sync on the phone. I executed Reset Sync on the phone. Then i had all tasks again and Sync still worked. But sorry this behaviour is kind of buggy/unpredictable. Together with the other bugs i discovered i´m still not sure to confide in MLO and it´s cloud service. BTW. The differences between WIFI and Cloud are obvious. In the long run WIFI is of course not an option. My question was Is Cloud Sync more reliable? Do you use it already? Whats your experience? Thanks a lot so far guys, I learned how to delete a profile on the phone. (You have to add a second one before;-). Is there a manual for MLO iPhone/iPad like there is for MLO Windows? The Wifi-Sync with the new profile unfortunately does not work. MLO 2 on my iPhone crashes again. So does that mean something is wrong with my .ml file? What could that be? How can i repair it? I think of purchasing the cloud aboservice. Does this work more reliable? What´s your experience? BTW. I already use the backupfunction of MLO Windows. I use some Hotkeys (Macros) for manipulating mainly Start Dates and Times. This is necessary as my tasklist combines a ASAP with a chronological list. My most used functions are: One hour, Day, Week - later, earlier Typing directly the time in a window with 1, 2 or 4 Digits (Minutes) and the choosing the date with the build in calendar. Dear Andrei, first of all i´m pleased the developer of MLO takes the time to look into this. Resetting All tasks view did not do the trick. There all subtask were visible. But resetting the current view which showed the problem did. I thought it would be helpful to save the .ml file and send it to support. I just did. I use Outlook 2013, Win 7/64Bit and (still) MLO. When i drag a mail in i don´t see the content (text) of the mail. Just the subjekt, date and an useless link. And i´m not able to drag the mail at the place i will. First it bumbs alywas at the end of my list (manual sorted). I got a problem dragging Outlookelements into MLO. First of all it seems impossilbe to place the element properly between other tasks. Instead it jumps to the end of the list! (I use manual sorting). I´m using the MLO 4.3.1 Pro (Trial) now for a week and would like to give other users and maybe even the developer a first feedback as this is the typical timespan where i (users) decide whether to use the product or not. I´m familiar with many taskmanagers like Outlook, TDL and a lot Standalone iPhone Apps. As i was looking for something which syncs continuesly to other pc´s and mobile (Apple-) devices i took a closer look at MLO. I like the sophisticated Filter, Automatic Formatting, Context and Sorting Options. So you are able to display the relevant tasks depending of time and loaction. The Workspace concept is a real time saver. I never worked with an taskmanager that autonomously put the tasks in order by urgency and importance, although i don´t use that calculation yet. The userinterface appears light considered the functionality build in. *SO FAR SO GOOD BUT. . .* In our complex world it´s vitally important that taskrelevant informations attend the workflow of your task. How easy it is to work when all information you need is at your fingertips. Often you drag relevant information in the notes of your task. Or you start writing a memo in MLO which you later refine with MS Word etc. That being said i seriously doubt one of this is possible whith the Notes concept of MLO. I searched for a switch to activate the Rich Text Editor but couldn´t find it. It´s unbelievable that i can not even underline a word!! But it gets worse. With TAB-Button you leave the notesarea! With the secret hotkey CTRL + I you get TAB functionality. I´m sure most users don´t know this. With CTRL + DEL you do not delete the word right from the cursor like in 99% of every Texteditor or Website. Instead you delete the entire task!! I don´t now if i ever get used alone to that huge limitation. If you drag an Outlook Element in a task is created containing an link. I ex-, imported my themes but it seem that other settings like hotkeys are impossible to transfer, right? Where are those settings stored. How can i adapt a second pc? If you choose manual sorting and reorder tasks manually that order of tasks is destroyed if Sorting is activated. Even if the tasks do not have the sortingparameter or that parameter is equal for each of them! So thanks for reading up to here. What do you think? Did i overlook something? Is anyone getting happy with the text editor in Notes? Is there hope MLO get rid of those flaws in the future? Has been anything announced yet? [MLO] Contexts closed are still showing up
I just installed the 4.3.1 Trial Pro Version on my Win 7 PC. I´m struggling with the contexts and the according viewfilters. I started creating the contexts: - Office - Home - Day - Evening - Calls I defined different Opening Times for Day and Evening and thought that only tasks open would be displayed. But that only works if no other context is assigned to that task. A task with the context Calls; Day will still be displayed if i filter in the evening for Calls. Is it possible that a task is closed if just one containing task is closed? I guess i can achieve what i want to see by clever filter settings but than the automatization with the Closing Times is lost. What could be a workaround? The next thing i would like to understand is the concept of locations as i would like to use MLO also on my iPhone. Maybe relevant tasks can magically pop up if i am at this location. Great! I understand. Manual sorting somehow collides with the sophisticated automatic sorting capabilities of MLO (Computed sorting). Thats why i came up with adapting/correcting the sorting-relevant properties-values (Imp. Urg. Due) to the position of destination. This way you can keep sorting on. In Outlook for example you can only drag drop with sorting is switched off and i definitetly won´t sort all my tasks manually! I would be very pleased to know which way you are planning to implement this and give you feedback on it. Thank you Eberhard for taking the time. To 2: It´s not about Due-Dates but about Start Dates/Time. The effect of Start Dates is that tasks do not appear in the Do-List until this date is reached. For myself i added this function in my added menu (see MLO My Menu.jgp) where i can let disappear the selected task for a specified amount of time (hourglass, german time names). I use that to keep my list nice and short and don´t have to deal with tasks i can ´t do anything about at the moment. To 6: You´re right. Didn´t realize that. Perfect as it is. To 8: Don´t want to play a lot around either. A different background colour would be sufficient. At the moment i don´t see any view name! It used to be like View at the task column but disappeared! Thank you guys! @Sergey: Yes, there are ways to workaround. But in my company priorities change, new tasks appear and make the actual order irrelevant. I don´t want to flag tasks oder mark them as not so relevant. I don´t want to see them as long i deal with more important ones. I want to push them further down to focus on the tasks above. I guess Richard amd many others think the same way. Actually it´s not a big thing to achieve. If you try to drag drop in the Do-List it looks like it would almost work. Until the disapointing message appears (-;) Let´s elaborate how and when manual sorting would make sense. Assume the Do-List is sorted by computed score. The dragging of a task within tasks with identical property-values (Imp. Urg. Due) should be no problem. If you would drag the task to a position it never would have been sorted to then the taskproperties should adapt to the destination position. The property-values (Imp. Urg. Due) would then be changed to justify the new position. Another option would be the possibility to copy and paste property- values (Imp. Urg. Due) from one task to another. The result would be similar. Maybe this would be easier for Andrey to realise. I hope he can manage to drop a line or two, as i think many would benefit from that option. Hi Eberhard, i arranged my columns that way cause most of the time you focus on the tasks name. So it made sense to me to put important taskinfos like Imp., Urg. Icons and contexts close (left) to that focus instead on the end of the line. Macro Express supports exporting single macros so i can send you some macros. You won´t regret purchasing Macro Express Pro anyway as you can use it with every program although it takes some days to warm up with the scripts. P.S. Uhps, thats bad news. I think we are on the same side, Richard. 1.000§/ @%$()/ Values of Importance Urgency doesn´t ring a bell to me while the order of my tasks makes the whole difference. At the moment it use this workaround: I open the view which will display the task (appropriate context). I select the task just a little more important than the new one and duplicate it (CTRL+D). So the new task will appear under the old task. I type in the name, delete the notes and make other adjustments. For this the order of my tasks will be fine. But of course things start getting complicated if i want to change the order of existing tasks. For that reason i programmed a menu which contains 10 Buttons for setting importance and urgency of selected tasks from min to max. Also those values are indicated in every tasks line. (red, blue arrows) See MLO Graphics Bug.JPG in the File area for more. Alexandra And on the drag and drop in To Do list this has been much requested for the reasons you outline - the computed priority gets you so far but then you want to be able to order things manually. Particularly in my case as I can never get things into the order I want using the urgency and importance sliders. If you do Custom Formatting of an task it does not affect the whole line (row) of the task if the order of the columns has been changed in the To-Do list. If you drag the icons to the left of the tasks caption you see what i mean. Same for the name of the groups. Formatting start in the middle of the list which looks kind of strange. Hi, im a total MLO-Newbie but a fan already. 1. Drag Drop in the To Do-List should be possible even if the list is sorted by Computed Score. I mean it´s all about whats the next thing i have to do. Should i really change the Importance and Urgency Values for changing the order of my tasks? Why not allow drag drop and let MLO calculate and adapt those values for the dragged position? 2. Many tasks i can´t do at the moment. There should be a defer function for tasks to hide/defer them for a specific amount of time, which should be minutes to days or even weeks. Technical that would be setting the start time to a future time/date. 3. The Format Options of tasks should affect the whole line (row) of the task even if the order of the columns has been changed in the To- Do list. If you drag the icons to the left of the tasks name you see what i mean. Same for the name of the groups. 4. There are some inconsistencies regarding the hotkeys. Some Hotkeys are not changeable (F5, F8) although they are assignable but not working. There should be a warning if you´re trying to assign an already used hotkey to a function. It should be possible to assign any key to any function. 5. The Formatting options in Tasknotes are way too limited. Even worse is that keyoperations do not work the way everybody ist used to nowadays. CTRL + Backspace deletes the word left from the cursor. That is normal. But CTRL + Del deletes the whole task (instead of deleting the word right from the cursor). If you select a whole line with the mouse and delete it there is still a blank line left! Paragraphs should be moveable with ALT + Arrow Up/Down. The formats bold, italic, underlined, (un-) numbered lists should be the minimum. 6. Undo and Redo should be possible in a multistep way. 7. I doubt it´s the best idea to specify a fixed position for icons. It would be better to give the icons a hierachy number and let them freely fill the icon column without replacing each other. The least important icons will than maybe not be visible due a lack of space. 8. It would be great to have the themes individually for every view in the To-Do Views to feel that you are in the right view. It would ease the work also. 9. The One Point Something Numbers for Importance, Urgencys should be replaced by more reasonable Numbers like 0 to 200 with beeing 100 in the Middle. So it would be easier to get a feel for them. 10. Importance, Urgency and maybe Effort should optional be visible in the line of an task. It could be a number or maybe better some tiny vertical bar (like progressbar) with showing concrete numbers while hovering with the mousepointer above. I hope at least some features were new and will be appreciated by other users and the developers. Keep up the good work!
