I've got the old case too with a Nova-T and a PVR-250 in it. I've

The internal and CPU temps are both about 45C, even under load. I'd

Can anyone give any advice on where to go from here?

Sure. The problem is almost certainly to do with interrupt sharing. In
my case it was a problem with the ACPI steering assigning too many
devices the same IRQ. I ended up fixing it by disabling unnecessary
onboard hardware (eg I don't need 8 USB controllers or onboard sound),
using acpi=off (is that different to your acpi=no ?) and re-positioning
the cards in the PCI slots. I would check your motherboard's manual
since some slots will share an interrupt whatever you do. You can also
assign specific slots a specific IRQ in the BIOS.

I've also heard that using SBLive cards can cause these sorts of issues
- and that's exactly what I am using. If I remove it and turn on ACPI
again it all works with no problems, but I need its SPDIF out. Ho hum.

Good luck.

[mythtv-users] UK Sky+ box with Pace rf2link

2005-08-01 Thread Julian Edwards

Hi folks

I just moved out of an NTL cable area so had to reconfigure for a Sky+
box. I just built the hardware at this page:
http://www.cornelius.demon.co.uk/lirc-sky-rflink-howto.html
but the Sky+ box is just not responding to anything I send. I've got a
multimeter on the cable and I can see fluctuating voltages when I use
irsend to try and give it a command so I know I've got most of it working.

The only other thing I can think that may be broken is the lircd.conf
file for this box. It's one of the very latest grey Sky+ branded boxes
and the model number on the bottom is a BSKYB 3100.

Is anyone successfully using the Pace rf2link with this particular box?
If so, I would love to get a copy of your lircd.conf please. I've found
3 different configs so far and none of them work. If someone has
something that they definitely know to work with this box and an rf2link
then I can start eliminating potential problems.

I live in Malvern, but west of the hill so I actually get my signal from
the Wrekin in Shropshire rather bizarrely. I believe both these
transmitters are just relays of Sutton Coldfield so any problems you
have would be seen there too if this were the case. I don't get your
problem precisely, but due to my location I get very bad co-channel
interference from Ridge Hill which means I don't get two of the muxes,
and get others 2 or 3 times. I found the best solution was to look up
(try the BBC reception website) the frequencies of the muxes you need
and get mythtv to scan those frequencies individually.

Well, better late than never to reply!

I did indeed end up looking up mux frequencies directly and guessing at

[mythtv-users] UK Malvern DVB scan problem

2005-07-11 Thread Julian Edwards
I see from the archives that some people have had issues with Malvern in
the past but I've no idea if this is related.

Basically when doing a full scan it identifies 6 transports ok, but one of
them is a duplicate of another (the one with ftn on it) and I don't get
any ITV channels at all.

The same problem exists when using dvbscan from the dvb tools so unless
Myth uses the same scanning code (?) it looks like a problem at the
transmitter (NIT tables? My DVB knowledge is basic).

If anyone here is using Malvern can you tell me if you see the same
problem? If not, can you send me a dump of your DVB-related mysql tables

Most likely, yes. There could be bi-level/tri-level sync issues
as previously mentioned, but I think that SDTV 480i is spec'd at
bi-level. I don't know how the 9A60 does his thing, but it should
work. The main caveat is getting a video card that can do:
-interlaced output
-low-frequency output (480i is 1/2 VGA speed)

The later nvidias (440ish and up) seem to do interlacing.
Have you ever heard of any signal incompatibility issues with Panasonic

I've got a Key Digital VGA-Component converter in use with a Panasonic

solid pictures at 576p, 576i, 480p etc but it flashes its input
identifier in the corner, as if it thinks there's a problem with the
signal somewhere. If I use my DVD player's component out, there's no
such problem with the picture.

I tried messing around with the polarity of the sync signals, but it
makes no difference :(

Are you using DVB? You need to set the xmltv ID manually in mysql for

Jarod's sample doesn't do that much on mine (it will pop up in the gap

thing quits flashing up, even on an all black screen. I never did
figure out how to make the settings restore on boot. For some reason,
I had to reset it every time I rebooted.
I'm getting deja vu - I think we've discussed this before :)
I'm pretty sure that the flashing thing is caused by the Panasonic's

That's good to know, thanks.
One of the other problems with part time channels happens when the last
programme that you recorded was on one of those channels. If you try
and watch live TV after the channel has gone off air, it won't tune and
returns you back to the menu because it's defaulting to the last channel

The only option is to schedule a recording from another on-air DVB

I did try and hack the startchan in the database, but it doesn't

Do you have any signal issues in the backend log for any part of the
recording? It might be worth correlating with the segments that you're
losing just to see if there's a link.

Next time I lose part of a recording I'll do the same check, although
since I upgraded to FC2 from FC1 it's not happened. Maybe it's
something to do with the DVB drivers?

I guess that the problem must have arisen since I moved up to 0.17.
I started noticing that after between 40-50 seconds into the beginning
of a recording it jumped forward - i.e. a piece was missing.

Initially it didn't worry me, i just thought my DVB signal was a bit
flaky.

Then I recorded a couple of 10 minute shows for my son, and found that
the recordings only lasted 2-3 mins !

I went back and looked at my other recordings. Many of them are
scheduled for an hour, but the actual recording is only about 45 mins
long - this means that the jump at the beginning isn't a few seconds
as i had though, but 15 mins !!!

I'm not using HDTV - but UK PAL DVB.
Unfortunately I restarted the server this afternoon and my log is
truncated, but the same thing happened this evening and there doesn't
appear to be anything in the log at the time it happened...

can I turn up the log level somehow ?
Am I alone with this one ?
Anyone any ideas - I have Myth setup and working, but no idea what is
going on under the covers...
You're not the only one!
It was happening to me a lot but not recently. The backend log file
didn't show any errors either, other than some DVB signal issues, which
leads me to believe it's something to do with gaps in received DVB data
causing a knock-on effect somewhere.

[mythtv-users] 0.17 frontend crash caused by mythphone (NOT Festival)

2005-02-14 Thread Julian Edwards
The frontend was dying on me consistenly about 30 seconds after starting

I suddenly realised that my ISP was down, so I changed the NAT setting

I believe logo detection catches this.

Does it specifically catch the brief presence of the logo?
On most stations I've seen that have a logo, the logo disappears during

Or has anyone in UK got ad detection working using DVB-T ?

I've tried all of the detection methods on most channels now, and
there's nothing that really works properly.

A while back I was quite hopeful that the logo detection would do the
job, but it doesn't work either. A shame, since it's probably the most
consistent ad marker across all the channels. (Annoyingly so, I hate logos)

Turn the ad detection off and save yourself some CPU cycles/heat!

[mythtv-users] The old ivtv bug of stopping recording

I currently use FC1 with the ivtv 0.1.9 driver - I could never get
0.1.10pre2-ck100z working stable enough. 0.1.9 works like a charm
except the known bug of it sometimes stopping recording if you start
watching a previously recorded show.

Does anyone know if this is bug is fixed in more recent versions of the
ivtv driver? It would be a good incentive to finally upgrade to FC2/3.

Progessive PAL (was Re: [mythtv-users] TV Output)

2005-01-01 Thread Julian Edwards
 ModeLine 720x576pali 13.875 720 744 808 888 576 581 586 625 -hsync
 -vsync interlace

I don't suppose you have a simliar spec for a progressive PAL image do
you? (I have the Key Digital VGA to Component adapter)

I generated one based off a Powerstrip mode to get 1024x576 which gives
an awesome picture, but I'm not sure whether it's entirely in spec as
the *TV*'s input identifier is flashing in the corner, which apart from
being really annoying probably means that the signal is not entirely in
spec. (The *TV*'s a Panasonic 36PD30 if it makes any difference)

Progressive PAL is exactly the same as regular PAL, but you need to drop
the interlace in that line. Simple as that.

Kind regards,

Mark Wormgoor
Hi
Just got back after the Christmas break and took a look at this. The
problem with your suggestion is that the frame rate goes down to 25Hz,
which the TV will not scan.

I did a little research some time ago and I don't think there's an
official progressive PAL specification but what I found indicates that
the horizontal frequency increases from 15.625kHz to 31.25kHz - ie. it
doubles.

The mode I mentioned above does indeed result in a 31.25 horizontal
frequency and thus a 50Hz frame rate:
   Modeline 1024x576p 43.500 1024 1128 1232 1392 576 577 580 625
-hsync -vsync

(In case anyone's wondering, I do have a bunch of 720x576p modelines as
well but absolutely none of them work, hence the choice of horizontal
resolution.)

I tried your interlaced PAL modeline on my TV and it produces a fine
picture but I still get my problem with the flashing input identifier.
When using the interlaced component output from the DVD player it's not
there so I think I've got a problem with the Key Digital converter
somewhere, maybe with the sync signal. :(

Is anyone else in PAL land using one of these converters with a
Panasonic TV?

Another thing that you can check is the interrupts. I've got a buggy

Yes, I am a mile to the north.

What did you use to scan and convert ?

I followed the instructions here:

Although I admit I didn't use zap2myth as I didn't want all the channels
in the database as they're mostly a load of crap. I don't really need
10 shopping channels thanks :)

I think what I did in the end was to put a couple of channels' data in
the database manually (mysql prompt) to see if they worked and then
(this was a while ago so my memory is fading) ran zap2myth, saw what the
output was, and then hand-crafted my own sql file to load the data. I
guess we could do with a better tool to scan and pick the channels...
