[Nagios-users] Distributed Nagios problem!

2006-05-25 Thread SYSIT

I have used nfs (on a
netapp device) to submit  check result from slave server  to central
server.

But now another problem happed:
central server can’t  deal  with so many  passive check
result.

It’s about 150 check
result per second submit  into  nagios.cmd.

On central server , I
found Nagios use more process to process check result ,

 it’s  about
 add 2 nagios process one minutes.

So 4 hours later, my
nagios server have  1k  nagios process, and system crashed.

Can any one help me?

[Nagios-users] Connection Timed Out

2006-05-25 Thread Erik

Hello,

I believe I set everything up correctly. I am trying to get
NSCA running;

On the Distributed Server I
run:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]> sudo
./send_nsca -H 192.168.0.233 -c /etc/nagios/send_nsca.cfg

Error: Timeout after 10 seconds

On the Central Server I get:

May 25 15:27:07 3coreweb1
nsca[1]: Handling the connection...

May 25 15:27:16 3coreweb1
nsca[1]: End of connection...

So I believe my path is OK, Firewall, wrappers, and the
command on the distributed server seem to be OK. Please help. What am I
missing? Am I missing “accept connections from” in a conf file?

Thanks,

Erik

[Nagios-users] Nagios Acknowledgement Information

2006-05-25 Thread Eduardo Martinez

In the old version of Nagios I remember receiving
Acknowledgement notifications with the author and their comment. Version 2
requires the variables $HOSTACKAUTHORS$ and $HOSTACKCOMMENT$ so I have edited
the misccommands.cfg file to look like this:

# 'host-notify-by-email' command definition

define command{

command_name    host-notify-by-email

command_line    /usr/bin/printf "%b" "*
Nagios  *\n\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\nHost:
$HOSTNAME$\nState: $HOSTSTATE$\nAuthor: $HOSTACKAUTHOR$\nComment: $

HOSTACKCOMMENT$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nInfo:
$HOSTOUTPUT$\n\nDate/Time: $LONGDATETIME$\n" | /bin/mail -s "Host
$HOSTSTATE$ alert for $HOSTNAME$!" $CONTACTEMAIL$

    }

# 'host-notify-by-epager' command definition

define command{

command_name    host-notify-by-epager

command_line    /usr/bin/printf "%b" "Host
'$HOSTALIAS$' is $HOSTSTATE$\nAuthor: $HOSTACKAUTHOR$\nComment:
$HOSTACKCOMMENT$\nInfo: $HOSTOUTPUT$\nTime: $LONGDATETIME$" | /bin

/mail -s "$NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ alert - Host $HOSTNAME$ is
$HOSTSTATE$" $CONTACTPAGER$

    }

# 'notify-by-email' command definition

define command{

command_name    notify-by-email

command_line    /usr/bin/printf "%b" "*
Nagios  *\n\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\n\nService:
$SERVICEDESC$\nHost: $HOSTALIAS$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nStat

e: $SERVICESTATE$\nAuthor: $HOSTACKAUTHOR$\nComment:
$HOSTACKCOMMENT$\n\nDate/Time: $LONGDATETIME$\n\nAdditional
Info:\n\n$SERVICEOUTPUT$" | /bin/mail -s "** $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ aler

t - $HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$ is $SERVICESTATE$ **"
$CONTACTEMAIL$

    }

# 'notify-by-epager' command definition

define command{

command_name    notify-by-epager

command_line    /usr/bin/printf "%b" "Service:
$SERVICEDESC$\nHost: $HOSTNAME$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nState:
$SERVICESTATE$\nAuthor: $HOSTACKAUTHOR$\nComment: $HOSTACKCOMM

ENT$\nInfo: $SERVICEOUTPUT$\nDate: $LONGDATETIME$" |
/bin/mail -s "$NOTIFICATIONTYPE$: $HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$ is
$SERVICESTATE$" $CONTACTPAGER$

}

By adding the $HOSTACKAUTHORS$ and $HOSTACKCOMMENT$ The only
thing I have accomplished in doing here was adding the new lines for author and
comment  to the notifications we receive but no actual data is sent with
it.

So I guess I am not quite understanding from the
documentation that “These macros are only valid in notifications where
the $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ macro is set to "ACKNOWLEDGEMENT".”

What I am trying to accomplish is have the acknowledgement author
and comment information that are inputted from the Nagios page to show up in the
notifications.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Eddie M.

Re: [Nagios-users] nagios.cmd file

2006-05-25 Thread Mike Holloway

nagios.cmd is a named-pipe created by nagios at runtime. Make sure
permissions on the directory specified in nagios.cfg's command_file=
are set to allow read/write for the user running nagios. The file
should only exist while nagios is running (ps ax | grep nagios).

Examples:
 check_procs -w 2:2 -c 2:1024 -C portsentry
   Warning if not two processes with command name portsentry. Critical
   if < 2 or > 1024 processes

So that's almost what you are looking for. It will warn if there not two
processes named portsentry. You want that to go strait to critical instead and
check for "qdaemon"  --

  check_procs -c 2:2 -C qdaemon

testing it (using different process names that match my testing
criteria) --

$ ./check_procs -c 2:2 -C sendmail
PROCS OK: 2 processes with command name 'sendmail'

$ ./check_procs -c 2:2 -C sendmailbad
PROCS CRITICAL: 0 processes with command name 'sendmailbad'

$ ./check_procs -c 2:2 -C init
PROCS CRITICAL: 1 process with command name 'init'

$ ./check_procs -c 2:2 -C nsca
PROCS CRITICAL: 14 processes with command name 'nsca'

And just where did you define NAGIOS? The next part will never be used
unless you define it.

RE: [Nagios-users] Email notifications

2006-05-25 Thread Randal, Phil
Assuming your nagios box is on your internal network and not NAT'ed to
the outside world...

You just need a standard sendmail setup or equivalent, making sure your
internal DNS has MX records for your mail servers, then make sure your
notifications go to internal addresses only.

If that restriction's too limiting for you, then you'll need to hack
your sendmail.mc to use your corporate email server as a smart host and
relay all via it.

If your nagios box is NAT'ed to the outside world, you'll need to enable
smtp out from that box, make sure your firewall rules are appropriate,
and ensure that your DNS used on the Nagios box can resolve your
destination domains.

RE: [Nagios-users] Email notifications

2006-05-25 Thread Morris, Patrick
That depends on how your notification commands are set up. Nagios
doesn't send mail by itself; it will use whatever commands you have
configured for it to send its notifications.

The default in the example configs (in misccommands.cfg) is to use the
"mail" command.

OK. I think ndomod can write tho ndo2db via TCP/UNIX Socket.
But ndo2db can not write to the database with your settings.

db_prefix=ndo_ ist set ?

Have you tested with [EMAIL PROTECTED] via tcp port 3306 ?
For mysql [EMAIL PROTECTED] is not the same as [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [Nagios-users] NDOUtils 1.3.1 data sink error.

2006-05-25 Thread Samba
Sorry for having this conversation with myself online but I felt it was
important to document my problem so everyone could benefit.

My problem ended up being rooted in ndo2db. It is hardcoded to look for
the mysql.sock file in /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. Mine was located in
/tmp/mysql.sock.

To resolve the issue I created a sym link to where it was looking for
the mysql.lock, resarted nagios and things are working now.

Thanks to Joerg for your help !!!

OK I think I found the problem but I don't know how to fix it.

In my /var/log/messages file I see the following message:

May 25 08:36:56 nagios ndo2db: Error: Could not connect to MySQL

My mysql.sock file is located at /tmp/mysql.sock

How do I change where ndo2db looks for the sock file?

I first used command-line mysql to connect to the DB and manually add a
record using the mysql user and it worked.

I then tried using log2ndo on one of the archives to see if that would
work and I don't get any results back. I looked into the Db and no

Joerg,

Great information! I changed the config to write to file and it works. After
changing it back I still get the same error.

I checked and like you said I only see one ndo2db process.

One thing I questioned was the DB PREFIX option. The default SQL import used a
prefix of ndo_, but the default in the config file is to not use a prefix at
all. I've tried using both configs with no luck so I guess that's probably not
it.

I really appreciate your help and ideas.

Hmmm
If you make changes in ndomod.cfg, nagios must be restarted.

> I manually connected to the DB as mysql/ with no problem.

Ok, please check if ndo2db is running.
If nagios (ndomod.o) connects to ndo2db ( Unix or tcp socket ) a new process
is forked.

So if you only see only one process, nagios can not connect to ndo2db.

You can also check if ndomod.o is able to write the data to a file.
Try to turn this feature on in ndomod.cfg

But everything step by step.

Thanks for your reply. I should have included that info:

My ndomod.cfg options are:

instance_name=default
output_type=unixsocket
output=/usr/local/nagios/var/ndo.sock
output_buffer_items=5000
file_rotation_interval=14400
file_rotation_timeout=60
reconnect_interval=15
reconnect_warning_interval=15
data_processing_options=-1
config_output_options=3

My ndo2db.cfg options are:

socket_type=unix
socket_name=/usr/local/nagios/var/ndo.sock
db_servertype=mysql
db_host=localhost
db_port=3306
db_name=nagios-ndo
db_prefix=ndo_
db_user=mysql
db_pass=

There are some timing options at the bottom, I don't think they're important.

I have verified tha the ndo.sock is nagios.nagios. I even tried changing
everything to TCPSocket and got the same errors.

I manually connected to the DB as mysql/ with no problem.

Any ideas?

Du you use UnixSocket or TCPSocket as connection type ?

If Unix Socket is used check the pemermissions of var/ndo.sock

ndomod.cfg AND ndo2db.cfg mus contain the same connection settings.

Du you use UnixSocket or TCPSocket as connection type ?

If Unix Socket is used check the pemermissions of var/ndo.sock

ndomod.cfg AND ndo2db.cfg mus contain the same connection settings.

htpasswd2 -c /etc/nagios/htpasswd.users nagiosadmin

but anyway i can't login !

I attach my apache.conf file anche nagios module..
Thank you for help

Start again and show us:
 - apache config changes
 - settings you think are relevant/changed in nagios config files.
