[Nagios-users] Service in Scheduled downtime shows up as Unscheduled under CRITICAL
Hi all, When I do an availability report for a service that had a scheduled downtime, the time that it was down shows up in both Scheduled OK state and Unscheduled Critical. I am not sure I understand this behavior, I would think that if it had scheduled downtime it should not show up at in the Critical Unscheduled category. Here is sample report below. [Nagios-users] help changing nagios pages to different http port
Hi, I have other things running on the server I want to run Nagsios on. I have a web site on port 80, 81, and 8000. I wanted to run the Nagios pages on port 85. I have the main page, and the documentation page (the first two tabs) working. http://lcua141:85/nagios/main.php http://lcua141:85/nagios/docs/ But when I go to any of the other pages http://lcua141:85/nagios/cgi-bin/tac.cgi http://lcua141:85/nagios/cgi-bin/trends.cgi I get this error... [Nagios-users] problem adding hosts to nagvis map
Hi there -- I completed the installation of the NagVis 1.5.1 utility onto our Nagios 3.1.2 server, and I am trying to create a map. However, I am running into issues. The first is the following: Whenever I select Map -> Add Icon -> Host, I need to do that process twice before the menu appears on-screen. The second issue is more problematic. Whenever I try to add a host, I go through the motions of selecting the host_name, and then entering the x and y coordinates. Even though I have done that, I am still getting an error that reads: A necessary value is not set. All red marked values are compulsory values. What am I doing wrong here, and how can I fix it? Re: [Nagios-users] check_period host - service inheritance
What about using service templates? That way, the check_period and such are all setup with service template directives, and your service only has to define the command and such. [Nagios-users] Cacti Integration With Nagios
I have successfully managed to get Nagios and Cacti up and running as 2 separate entities on the same server I am setting up for monitoring purposes. [Nagios-users] check_period host - service inheritance
I've seen some old threads in the nagios-users group but nothing recent so I thought I'd bring it up again. I have a use case to have a single service defined for 1000's of different hosts with up to 50-100 different check_period times. The only way to do this now is to create a different service with each check_period. To do this, I would need to create 50-100 different service definitions for each check_period. It makes much more sense for the service to inherit the hosts check_period value and use this for the service. This allows me to only define one service. Does anyone know of a way to get this to work, or has anyone created a patch for 3.2.x to do this? Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios Deployment
We run nagios on virtual Opensuse servers without any problems (ESX). All our monitored hosts are windows server 2003 or greater. Before you are going to build an architecture for your own nagios implementation you have to select components - plugins, configuration tools and possibly alternate web interface. This is a brief lists of the components we have implemented: -Nagios 3.2.1 from source -NSClient++ SSL -NagiosQL for configuration -Apache with SingleSignOn implemented -Customized menu for creating custom views and entries All above mentioned components are part of "zero configuration build". Then the esx image is distributed to a data center where the team is trained to use NagiosQL interface only. Later then can maintain their infrastructure on their own. I recommend installing from source as it is much more stable and works better with the plugins etc. than the default Ubuntu package. Other than that since you look to be monitoring lots of windows hosts i would suggest checking out wmi which was not too difficult to install on Ubuntu 10.04LTS. "ps -ocputime" will give you the total cputime used since the process started. You could code a plugin which stores this then next time it's run will calculate the %cpu from the difference between the old and new values.
