[Nagios-users] No response from check_snmp (Plugins version 1.4.16)
Hi I follwed the quick installation guide to install Nagios and then installed the plugins with the link for the steps. I installed everything and got the UI for both Nagios and PNP4Nagios. Installed the check_mysql_health plugin as well and started monitoring for about 23 services. All the graphs for it are showing up correctly as well. Started with check_snmp plugin to test for connectivity to a remote host using snmp but i dont get any response. when i use snmpget it works fine. But there is just no response from the check_snmp plugin. I am using plugins 1.4.16 with nagios server 3.4.1. Version of net-snmp installed is : 5.4.3 Please help me out in this regard. [Nagios-users] Getting Performance Data in PNP4Nagios but not from Nagios
Hi I am coming back to Nagios after a gap of 2 years. So i might be out of touch with some of its new features. I have installed both Nagios 3.4.1 and PNP4Nagios 0.6 version perfectly. No issues are seen in the installation and i can view the UI of both the products. Earlier when i installed Nagios with PNP4Nagios , As soon as i install PNP4Nagios and configure it with synchronous mode i used to see the performance data in Nagios. But earlier when i used it , i used to see a RED Exploded ballon kind of an icon which i in turn click on it to view the performance data in another TAB which would eventually open the pnp4 graphs. With the current installation i am not seeing this link from the existing service that would eventually take me to view its performance data in PNP4. But when i view the PNP4 UI using the URL: http://ip-address/pnp4nagios , i can see the graphs fine. Its only that the link from Nagios UI to PNP4Nagios is not seen now. Could someone please help me in viewing this. I am kind of used to it and also love it that way. Appreciate your response in this regard. Re: [Nagios-users] Monitoring a process with its pid
Hi Narsimha Please find the detailed steps as below: 1. Install the snmpd daemon on the target machine that you want to monitor , use yum to install it. command is : yum install net-snmp 2. Open the file snmpd.conf from the directory /etc/snmp , you need to locate for the lines as below : viewsystemviewincluded .1.3.6.1.2.1.1 viewsystemviewincluded .1.3.6.1.2.1.25 The second line as above is normally like: view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1 , you have to edit it to : .1.3.6.1.2.1.25 so that you can query the entire HOST-RESOURCES-MIB. 3. Re-start the snmpd daemon using the command : service snmpd restart and you are good to start monitoring it. Rest of the steps remain the same as mentioned in the mail thread below. [Nagios-users] Bandwidth Usage on a linux Box
Hi I want to monitor the bandwidth usage on my linux box using nagios. I checked the already existing plugins that i downloaded. I found that the plugin named as : check_mrtgtraf can be used to achieve this functionality. When i read through its help page i sensed that it reads these values from a file on the target machine which i want to monitor. I have no prior experience working with MRTG. Can some one throw some more light on how this plugin is used ? What is the log file that it reads that data from the target machine being monitored ? What do i need to do as a pre-requisite to use this plugin on the target machine ? Is there any other way like say via SNMP that i can achieve the similar functonality ? Appreciate your responses. Well , when i use the complete OID path i get the performance data , Say instead of using hrSWRunPerfMem if use 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.5.1.1.2 Then it works fine and the performance data is collected for the specific process of interest. Do try the following command: rpm -q php-gd If this doesn't give any output, it is not installed. If it does, it must be at least of a high enough version (mine is php-gd-5.3.2 on RHEL5). On RHEL servers, I use the remi repository to update php to a reasonable version and install php-gd next to it: # download the remi rpm file itself wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi-release-5.rpm # install the remi repo (by default disabled) rpm -Uvh remi-release-5*.rpm # now upgrade php and install php-gd yum -y --enablerepo=remi install php php-gd Afterwards, restart apache to reload the new php version and addons. To check wether php has the gd module activated, create a simple php-file (called eg. test.php) and put the following php code in it: ?php phpinfo(); ? When you call this test.php from your webserver, you should find a gd-specific section and the first line of it should say GD Support with value enabled Hope this helps, Franky -- Download Intel#174; Parallel Studio Eval Try the new software tools for yourself. Re: [Nagios-users] Changing the emails alerts interval????
Notification interval is different for hosts and services. You need to set it for both so that you get the notifications as you want. If you want notifications for the host then modify only the host template. By doing so you will receive host related notifications once in 4 hours (or whatever you configured) , If you want your services to notify you every 4 hours (or whatever you configured in the notification interval) then you must add this information in the services template for the notification interval parameter. Hi Marquez Could you provide steps to make it work , i have no idea how i can make nagios as the root and execute the check_mem plugin. Thanks Jatin On 3/12/2010 3:31 PM, Marquez, Quentin wrote: Hi Jatin, Don't try to run the sudo command using root while its configuration is made for nagios :) Your issue looks like you can run check_mem.pl as root and get a reply locally, but nrpe is owned by user nagios, and user nagios won't run this plugin correctly. To allow the nagios user to run check_mem.pl as root, you have to configure a sudo command. Make sure your check_mem.pl is owned by user nagios, configure your sudo command via visudo, and then run this sudo command as the nagios user. As root, you could try : su - nagios -c /usr/bin/sudo /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_mem.pl -w 10 -c 5 Or just wait to see the result on your nagios server. Re: [Nagios-users] Notification Interval set to 0 not working as per doc
Thanks Marc, I defined a new service definition and had set the notification interval for it to 0 and it worked as i wanted. I wrongly understood that putting this value to host definitions would yield me the required result but it was not so. Re: [Nagios-users] Monitoring a process with its pid
You are correct , pid's change from to startup to startup but the reason for doing so is that i want to make sure that a process if it starts with some id it stays working as a long as possible and i need to monitor it. The moment it changes the pid then it means that it has either crashed of re-started with some other pid. I could also monitor for the process status using its name , example having to monitor an explorer.exe process instead of its pid but in my test environment i have multiple instances of the same process and i need to make sure all of them keep running. For example i hava 4 java.exe processes that i need to monitor and make sure i have not more or less than 4 java.exe being running at any given time in my server. But i am not getting a clue as to what i need to do on the remote box whose JVM parameters i need to monitor. Appreciate your help in this regard. [Nagios-users] Notification Interval set to 0 not working as per doc
Hi The Nagios documentation says that when you set the Notification Interval to 0 , it will notify with an email alert only once when the service state goes to down from up , it will then again notify when the service comes back to up state , correct me if am wrong. But when i set this to 0 , i am still getting email notifications every 10 mins for the service which is in down state for more than one day. Re: [Nagios-users] Using NSClient with NRPE
Hi Ron I just tried this yesterday , I had a requirment to monitor a java process on a windows box and return a critical alert if it has stopped working. I used the following on as the nagios configuration , this should be added to the object configuration file: define service{ usegeneric-service host_name service_descriptionJava check_commandcheck_nt!PROCSTATE!-d SHOWALL -l java.exe } This is working perfectly fine for me , Next step i am trying is to set up a notification email if the process stops functioning. Hope this helps. Thanks Jatin On 3/4/2010 6:57 AM, Ron Wilson wrote: I have NSclient on my servers and use NRPE to access client. Stopping nagios: .done. Starting nagios:su: warning: cannot change directory to /var/spool/nagios: No such file or directory This account is currently not available. done. Upon opening the UI i am still not able to see any hosts added. I have also added the command and input service files needed to contact the remote host. Please help. [Nagios-users] Getting parameters and plotting them in terms of % (Percentage)
Hi all I am seeing that graphs getting shown for the corresponding service that i define but they are shown in terms of only 4 points , either critical , ok , warning or indeterminate. I need to see the graphs in terms of utilization values such as: CPU -- % used (out of 100%) Memory -- Total memory (Used and free memory in terms of MB or KB etc) Disk Usage -- Used Disk space and free disk space (In terms of MB or GB etc) Network I/O -- Packets sent or received etc Please provide any pointers on how get this using Nagios. Re: [Nagios-users] Installing Nagios on CentOS
Thanks Sebastian. I have one question if i use the command as mentioned. Will it also install all the depadencies that are required for the functioning of a complete Nagios application. I mean will it also make the GUI of Nagios functional ? Thanks Jatin Sebastian Ries wrote: Hi Can someone provide some instructions or links on how to install Nagios on CentOS distribution.
