[Nagios-users] check_snmp syntax question
Hello -- I am testing out check_snmp on our printers, and I have been successful using the following syntax: ./check_snmp -H ip adddress -C public -o sysDescr.0 which has provided the following output: SNMP OK - HP ETHERNET MULTI-ENVIRONMENT,ROM R.22.01,JETDIRECT,JD95,EEPROM R.25.57,CIDATE 05/02/2006 | What I am trying to do now is get the status of the printer with the goal of generating output that would indicate if toner is low, or if other components are in need of service. Re: [Nagios-users] check_snmp syntax question
Hello -- I did try the check_hpjd plugin. While it did provide some information concerning an issue with a test printer, it did not go in-depth as to what was the actual error condition. I want to see what check_snmp would provide, and compare that to the output generated by the check_hpjd plugin. -Original Message- From: Steven Carr [mailto:sjc...@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2013 1:02 PM To: Nagios Users List Subject: Re: [Nagios-users] check_snmp syntax question Have you tried the actual HP JetDirect plugin instead of trying to reinvent the wheel? check_hpjd? http://nagiosplugins.org/man/check_hpjd Steve On 5 February 2013 16:22, Kaplan, Andrew H. ahkap...@partners.org wrote: Hello -- I am testing out check_snmp on our printers, and I have been successful using the following syntax: ./check_snmp -H ip adddress -C public -o sysDescr.0 which has provided the following output: SNMP OK - HP ETHERNET MULTI-ENVIRONMENT,ROM R.22.01,JETDIRECT,JD95,EEPROM R.25.57,CIDATE 05/02/2006 | What I am trying to do now is get the status of the printer with the goal of generating output that would indicate if toner is low, or if other components are in need of service. [Nagios-users] disabling e-mail notifications for nagiosadmin account
Hi there -- We are running Nagios 3.3.1, and have a two contacts set up for the e-mail notifications. One of the contacts is the nagiosadmin user. This is the user account that was first setup during the initial installation of the application. When the account was set up it was configured with the e-mail address of one of our network administrators. A second account was set up that was based on the administrator's login account along with his e-mail address. When notifications are sent out, he gets two notifications for each event due to both contacts having the same e-mail address. We want to prevent the e-mail notifications being sent to the nagiosadmin account with the administrator getting only one notification per event as the intended result. One thought was to set up a dummy account on the Nagios server as a solution, and another idea was to set up a flag in the contacts.cfg file, but we are not sure what the would be the correct syntax for the latter. I had imported the configuration files into the NConf utility database of the Nagios server. Among the files that were imported was the commands.cfg file. During the importation process, the commands.cfg file data was imported into a field called checkcommands. When the NConf utility was subsequently used to generate new files, a checkcommands.cfg file was among the them. This file, along with the original commands.cfg file, is located in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects directory. However, the nagios.cfg file does not reference it. Re: [Nagios-users] problem with newly created checkcommandandservice
Hi there -- I found the answer to the problem. Working in conjunction with you and another colleague, I noticed the checkcommands.cfg and commands.cfg files were both present in the objects directory. Additionally the two files were found to have the same command syntax with the exception of the former having the command reference in it. I then checked the nagios.cfg file, and there was a line referring to commands.cfg but not the checkcommands.cfg file. I changed the reference to point to the latter file, and that solved the problem. Thanks for the help in any event. [Nagios-users] e-mail notifications not being sent
Hi there -- I completed the installation of Nagios 3.3.1, and I am going through the testing process. The server is able to successfully monitor our various clients, but e-mail notifications for critical conditions are not being sent to the intended recipient. The e-mail server that is on the Nagios server is the Postfix message transfer agent. The troubleshooting steps that I have taken so far are the following: 1. I have been able to send a test e-mail from the Nagios server to the intended recipient using two different mail commands. The test e-mail was done from the command line using the mail and mailx commands using the command syntax: mail e-mail address /etc/fstab mailx -s test e-mail address /etc/fstab 2. I checked the contacts.cfg file, and confirmed the intended recipient is listed with the correct address. 3. I checked the nagios.log, and there were entries that were similar to the following: [1321385615] Warning: Attempting to execute the command /usr/bin/printf %b * Nagios 2.6 *\n\nNotification Type: PROBLEM\nHost: ... Date/Time: Tue Nov 15 14:33:35 EST 2011\n | /bin/mail -...e-mail address resulted in a return code of 127. Make sure the script or binary you are trying to execute actually exists... I did a search for the mail binary, and there was none at that location. To correct the problem, I created a symbolic that pointed to the actual location of the mail binary which was located at the /usr/bin/ folder. 4. Re: [Nagios-users] e-mail notifications not being sent
Hi there -- I checked the nagios.log file, and the problem was due to the mail binary not being at the /bin folder. I created a symbolic link at that location to point to the /usr/bin/mail binary. Once that was done, notifications were sent to the recipient. As a follow-up, the address of the Nagios server is shown to be nagios@localdomain. I would like to change that to reflect the name of the server. What file(s) do I need to modify in order to make that happen? Thanks. 4. As far as I can tell, all hosts have e-mail notifications enabled on them. What other steps do I need to take in order to get e-mail notifications to work here? Thanks. [Nagios-users] check_nis plugin not getting responses
Hi there -- We are running a Nagios 3.3.1 server, which is being deployed to replace an older 3.1.2 server. Part of the process involved importing the plugins that were in use on the old server to the new one via the Nconf utility. One such item is the check_nis plugin. This plugin has been proven to work without issue on the older Nagios server, so it was thought it should be able to work like the others on the new server. The plugin does appear to run without errors on the new server, but when it queries the NIS server, it gets the following error message: NIS CRITICAL - domain domainname not answering I have checked the syslog.log log file of the target NIS server for any reference for errors pertaining to the plugin, but there were none. I did a similar check on the Nagios server, but there were no entries as such in the nagios.log, messages, or syslog files. I also did a restart of the nrpe daemon on the client to see if that would make a difference, but it did not appear to do so, neither did running the plugin from the command line yield the desired results. Does anyone have any idea as to why the script is no longer working? Thanks. The information in this e-mail is intended only for the person to whom it is addressed. Re: [Nagios-users] check_nis plugin not getting responses
Hi there -- I found the answer to the problem: I had not installed the NIS package on the Nagios server. The package includes the ypbind binary which is needed for the check_nis plugin to operate. Once the ypbind binary was in place, the check of the NIS server was successful. From: Kaplan, Andrew H. Re: [Nagios-users] Monitoring a Microsoft SQL Server
Hi there -- I finally got both the check_mssql and check_mssql_health scripts to work with the server in question. Listed below are the notes that I took during the testing process. I hope they are of use, and if there are any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. Thanks again to everyone for the help. NOTE: The SQL Server in this scenario uses named instances, which result in dynamic TCP/IP ports being used rather than static ones. The ports can be identified by running the SQL Server Configuration Manager utility. Once the utility is open, go to the SQL Server Network Configuration section. Select the database in question from the list of Protocols for... entries. Double-click on the TCP/IP option listed in the right pane. Select the IP Addresses tab of the window that appears on-screen. Scroll down to the IPAll section, and make note of the value that is listed next to the TCP Dynamic Ports field. That value is what will be used in the command syntax when running the script. The user account, sa, along with its password will be needed to successfully access the database. The command syntax, with the resulting output is shown below. check_mssql -H ip address --username sa --password password --port dynamic TCP port OK: Connect time=0.022503 seconds. When using the check_mssql_health plugin, the first thing that needs to be done is to add an entry of the SQL server to the /etc/freetds/freetds.conf file. This file is used by the plugin to connect to the server. An excerpt of the file is shown below: # SQL Server Name [name of sql server]- name of the server used in the command syntax host = ip address or fqdn port = dynamic tcp port - TCP Dynamic port used by the server instance tds version = 7.0 An example of the command syntax that is used to connect to the server is the following: /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_mssql_health --server=name of sql server --username=sa --password=password --port=dynamic tcp port --mode=connection-time The output of the above command is shown below: OK - 0.06 seconds to connect as sa | connection_time=0.06;1;5 From: Claudio Kuenzler [mailto:c...@claudiokuenzler.com] Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2011 3:33 PM To: Kaplan, Andrew H. Re: [Nagios-users] Monitoring a Microsoft SQL Server
Hi there -- I made some progress on my end. To start off, I confirmed the firewall is disabled on the SQL server. I then investigated the possibility that a named instance was being used on the server. It turns out that is the case. I then went to the SQL Server Configuration Manager utility/Network Configuration, and made note of the TCP Dynamic Ports value. Using that information, I entered the following command syntax: check_mssql -H ip address --username sa --password password --port dynamic port The result was the following: OK: Connect time=0.006639 seconds. I then tried to run the check_mssql_health plugin using the syntaxes shown below: ./check_mssql_health --hostname=ip address --username=sa --password=password --port=dynamic port --mode=connection-time ./check_mssql_health --hostname ip address --username sa --password password --port dynamic port --mode connection-time The error message that I encountered in both cases was the following: CRITICAL - cannot connect to ip address. DBI connect(';host=ip address;port=62502','sa',...) failed: (no error string) at /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_mssql_health line 2175 If I can get the latter plugin to work, that will enable more extensive checking of the server. The syntax for the username was either username or domainname\username during the testing. The port of the server is the default port which, if I am not mistaken, is port 1433. I have tried several sql modes with the same error message appearing each time. Can someone lend a hand here? Thanks. [Nagios-users] Problem accessing the status map page
Hi there -- This e-mail is sort of a sequel to a previous e-mail that I posted about a similar issue. The Nagios server' is the 3.2.0 release on an Ubuntu LTS 10.04 32-bit system. Re: [Nagios-users] added host not appearing in web interface
Hi Daniel -- Thanks for your reply. I took your advice concerning the configuration file, and I have to confess my having done a rookie mistake. There were older versions of the configuration files in the /usr/local/nagios/etc directory, and I made the modifications to those files. The problem is, the current files used by Nagios are located in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects folder. Once I made the changes in that location, the host appeared without issue. Thanks again for the help. From: Daniel Tuecks [mailto:dtue...@googlemail.com] Sent: Sat 6/11/2011 7:32 AM To: Nagios Users List Subject: Re: [Nagios-users] added host not appearing in web interface Hi Andrew, wheater the NRPE daemon is running or not has nothing to do with your host not appearing in the WebUI. In fact, it would be a little silly if a host is only shown if its reachable ;) First check that Nagios actually reads your config file (nagios.cfg: cfg_file/cfg_dir parameters). Be sure you have defined that host in your nagios config with at least one service (define host { }; define service { }). Also make sure your host/service definition has no register 0 parameter and that your user is allowed to see the host (by a contact(group) or via authorized_for_all_hosts parameter in cgi.cfg). [Nagios-users] Problem with check_mailq and check_smtp plugins
Hi there -- I recently rebuilt an e-mail server from scratch, and part of the process was restoring from disk backup the nrpe directory that was one the original server. The original server ran on the Fedora Core 7 32-bit distribution, while the new one is running on the CentOS 5.6 64-bit operating system. The version of nrpe that was restored to the new server is 2.6, while that of the plugins is the 1.4.5 release. The Nagios server is version 3.1.2 running on a CentOS 5.3 32-bit distribution. Two of the plugins that I use to monitor the e-mail portion of the server, check_mailq and check_smtp, do not appear to be working. [Nagios-users] Correct syntax to check paging file usage on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server
Hi there -- I am running Nagios 3.1.2 with OpMon, formally NSClient, agent 2.0 installed on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit system. I have several counters that are being monitored on the client including CPU Load, Disk Usage, Memory Usage, Server Uptime, and Paging File Usage. All counters except Paging File Usage appear to be running without issue. The error message that I am seeing with Paging File Usage is the following: NSClient - ERROR INVALID COUNTER - PagingFile(_Total)% Usage - ERROR CODE: 0xCBB8 - I have a Windows 2003 R2 64-bit server that is being monitored with the same counters, and the Paging File Usage counter does not return an error. The syntax for the command in question, taken from the commands.cfg file, is shown below: # 'check_nt_pagingfile' command define command{ command_namecheck_nt_pagingfile command_line$USER1$/check_nt -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 5667 -v COUNTER -l \\PagingFile(_Total)\\% Usage,Paging Fileusage is %.2f%% -w $ARG1$ -c $ARG2$ } Does anyone know what change(s) are needed to the above command, assuming it can still be used, in order for it to accurately keep track of the paging file in the Windows 2008 server? Re: [Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: No output returned with check_iptables.sh script
Hi there -- When you run it manually - how do you do it ? check_nrpe -H host -c check_iptables from the nagios server ? or local on the client ? I have run the script on the Nagios server, and on the client system. When I ran the script on the server, the syntax I used was the following: /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H hadron -c check_iptables The output of that command was: CHECK_NRPE: No output returned from daemon. I ran the script on the client using the following syntax: /usr/local/nrpe/libexec/check_iptables.sh The output of that command was: OK INPUT 20 rulesbrOK BLACKIN 497 rulesbrOK BLACKOUT 497 rulesbr When I ran the command on the client, I did so as the root user. The nagios user account exists on the client, but as a means of security it is set up with the /sbin/nologin shell. I confirmed with other administrators, as well as in practice, this should not intefere with operations. If you have not put in return codes how do you expect nagios to know what was the exit status of the script ? how will it know if it finished running or failed - those are not covered from NRPE but determined in the plugin. I looked at the plugin, and I am not sure what the syntax is for entering the return codes. -Original Message- From: Assaf Flatto [mailto:nag...@flatto.net] Sent: Monday, January 17, 2011 4:24 PM To: Nagios Users List Subject: Re: [Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: No output returned with check_iptables.sh script Kaplan, Andrew H. wrote: Hi there -- Thanks for your reply. I wanted to know if that was what was causing the critical status to occur, or if there is something(s) else that I should investigate. Memory is not a factor in the load calculation, only the number of processes running or waiting to run. For at least 15 minutes you had approximately 71 processes either running or ready to run and waiting on CPU resources. Running top/ps was the right thing to do but you really need to do it when the problem is occurring to see what's actually using all the CPU resources. There are far too many reasons why load could be high but it should be easy for someone familiar with your system to figure it out (at least generally) while in-the-act. -- Marc The information in this e-mail is intended only for the person to whom it is addressed. Re: [Nagios-users] Determining what is causing a highloadreportedby check_load plugin
Hi there -- I ran the command syntax you suggested, and outputted it to a file. When I checked the file, I noticed there was a large amount of updatedb and slocate instances that were running going back to August of this year. When I tried to kill those processes, I ran into the same problem that I encountered with the kjournald instances. I did some further investigating, and it turns out a high number of the updatedb and slocate processes are symptomatic of a corrupted filesystem. Accordingly, I rebooted the server and had it run fsck on all filesystems. The server is now up, and I will monitor it for the next week to see if the problem returns. [Nagios-users] problem adding hosts to nagvis map
Hi there -- I completed the installation of the NagVis 1.5.1 utility onto our Nagios 3.1.2 server, and I am trying to create a map. However, I am running into issues. [Nagios-users] Nagvis 1.5.1 installation question
Hi there -- I am going through the motions of installing NagVis 1.5.1 onto our Nagios 3.1.2 server. I have completed the installation of the check_mk 1.1.6p1 software, and made sure to select the default settings for it. When I run the install script for NagVis, all prerequisites are found, and I make sure to select mklivestatus as the Backend. However, when the installer gets to the Livestatus Socket, it looks for it in the /usr/local/nagios/rw/live directory, but says it is missing. The installer lists the valid socket formats, and asks me to enter the MKLivestatus socket. I am not familiar with what that would be, and whether or not check_mk should be started in daemon mode or in some other way. Can someone provide some insight into this? Thanks. [Nagios-users] Improving performace of the check_folder_size script
Hi there -- I am running Nagios 3.1.2 with the nrpe 2.12 client. One of the scripts that I am using is the check_folder_size script. The Nagios server is on one subnet, while the client is on another. The connection between the two is via a 10GB WAN connection. The script is configured on the client to send warnings when the folder in question reaches 500 gigabytes. The entire disk that the folder is on is four terabytes. The script appears to be doing its job pretty well, but I notice that occasionally I will get timeout issues with the script. I suspect the configuration of the script on the Nagios server is the cause, and I wanted to get feedback as to the best settings to have for the script. The current configuration is shown below: # Service definition define service{ use generic-service ; Name of service template to use host_name hostname service_description Folder Size Active 1 is_volatile 0 check_period24x7 max_check_attempts 1 normal_check_interval1440 retry_check_interval720 contact_groups linux-admins notification_interval 1440 notification_period 24x7 notification_optionsw,u,c,r check_command check_nrpe!check_folder_size1 } Does anyone have any suggestions as to what settings would be better here? [Nagios-users] hosts showing up as down even though they are not being monitored
Hi there -- We are running Nagios 3.1.2 on one of our servers, and the following anomaly is occurring: Several of our clients have been taken offline, during which time they were detected as being down. I have gone through the motions of commenting out references to them in the services file located in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects directory. Even though the clients are no longer being monitored, they are still showing up as being down. What other steps do I need to take in order to correct this problem? Thanks. Hi there -- I went through the steps you mentioned in your e-mail, and the problem continues to persist. The preflight check did mention the clients in question did not have any services associated with them. Aside from those warnings, the Nagios application did not have any complaints or problems starting up. [Nagios-users] Alternate Configuration for PNP4Nagios in Nagios
Hi there -- Through the much appreciated help of members of this list, I was able to get PNP4Nagios up and running. I wanted to return the favor so I am sending this e-mail out to the membership with the intent of sharing knowledge. If there are problems with what I implemented, please let me know and I will endeavor to rectify them. I experimented with implementing the application within Nagios, and I came up with an alternate method of accessing it. This method is not meant to replace what the documentation offers, rather it is simply another way of viewing the data. I don't know if this has been done by anyone else. If it has, my apologies for repeating something that has already been done. The idea that I came up with was to add a link on the side panel that points to the PNP4Nagios page. The example shown here will place the link under the Event Log link of the Reports section. The panel is under the control of the side.php file. The steps that I took to complete the process are shown below: 1. Make a backup copy of the side.php in case there was a problem. 2. Open the side.php file using a text editor. 3. Do a search within the file for the syntax: Event Log 4. Add the following line immediately after that which references Event Log: lia href=/nagios/pnp/index.php target=?php echo $link_target;?PNP4Nagios/a/li 5. Save the changes that were made. Once the above steps are completed, the administrator can refresh any of the screens, and the side bar will look like the attachment to this e-mail. side.php.jpg I have tested this configuration for about two weeks, and so far there have not been any problems. [Nagios-users] External Command File Error
Hi there - I completed the installation of the Nagios 3.1.2 application onto our CentOS 5.3 server. Everything appears to be working fine with one noticeable exception: If I go to the host information page of any host, and select Schedule a check of all services on the host, and subsequently click on commit, I get the following error: Error: Could not open command file '/usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd' for update! The permissions on the external command file and/or directory may be incorrect. Read the FAQs on how to setup proper permissions. An error occurred while attempting to commit your command for processing. I went through and verified the following: 1. The nagios user account has the bash shell. 2. The permissions on the nagios directory, and its subdirectories are as follows: user:group ownership= nagios:nagios permissions = rwxrwxrwx What did I miss here, and what can I do to correct it? Re: [Nagios-users] External Command File Error
Hi there -- Thanks for your reply. The answers to your questions are the following: Does /usr/local/nagios/var/rw exist? Yes, it does. Does /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd exist after starting nagios? Yes, it does. The external commands option is set to 1 in the nagios.cfg file. Is the ownership of /usr/local/nagios/var/rw nagios:nagios? Yes, the ownership is set to nagios:nagios. Is the ownership of /usr/local/nagios/var/rw nagios:nagios? If so, review the Fedora Quickstart Guide, specifically Step 1, Create Account Information; you've missed setting the ownership of the files and apache group membership correctly. Apache will need to be restarted after making those changes. I went ahead and ran the usermod command for Apache that was mentioned in step one of the Fedora Quickstart guide. Once that was done, I restarted Apache, and that appears to have solved the problem. Re: [Nagios-users] Problem getting past main page
Hi there -- Thank-you for your reply. I did indeed check out several books prior to posting my messages, and while all of them are thorough with doing a scratch installation, there were none that I read which delved deeply into doing an upgrade. The upgrade scenario is what I am involved with at this time. The purpose of this exercise is to be able to preserve the configuration, and have it available in the newer version of the Nagios application. I am hoping to avoid having to rebuild all checks from the beginning. The amount of checks that I have in place would require a great deal of time that I am hoping I will not have to commit. My previous upgrading experince, from Nagios 1.x to Nagios 2.x was not very difficult. I am hoping to accomplish that here. Hi there -- I can answer your questions in the order they were asked: 1. I made sure to restart apache after the changes were made via the sudo /etc/init.d/httpd restart command syntax. 2. The output of the apachectl configtest is the following: [Thu Jun 25 10:22:48 2009] [warn] The ScriptAlias directive in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf at line 566 will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias. My next step was to configure the various cfg files fromt Nagios 2.6 to work with the Nagios 3.1.2 application. I added several lines to the nagios.cfg file that pointed to the location of the files that I brought over. The nagios.cfg file points to the latter as the one that it looks to for configuration settings. I checked through it, and there is no mention of admins anywhere. I also checked the services.cfg file in the same directory as localhost, with the results being the same. Where is this cause of complaint originating from, and how can I correct it? Thanks. [Nagios-users] REPOST: Problem in Preflight Check with commands.cfg
Hi there-- I am reposting this question due to a lack of response. I really am in need of help here, and any would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I have completed the installation of Nagios 3.0.6 onto an Ubuntu 9.04 server using the apt-get utility. We currently have a Nagios 2.6 server running, and I wanted to import the configuration files into the newer server. Re: [Nagios-users] Recommended Plugin for Monitoring iptables
Hi Marc -- Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the script, and I am currently testing it. I had to make one modification within the script: The -S argument is not known by the version, 1.3.8, of iptables on the server in question, so I replaced it with the -L argument. One question to all members who have used the script: Is the script designed to run in the background, or is it simply invoked by Nagios and then closed when it is done running? The reason I ask is I am manually running it, and it does not immediately close. Re: [Nagios-users] unable to install nagios-plug ins on HP UX
Hi there - The solution that I have used, admittedly it is more of a workaround than a fix, is to install the precompiled packages that are available for the HP-UX operating system. [Nagios-users] Configuring pnp4nagios questions
Hi there - We are running Nagios 2.6, and I am going through the motions of configuring pnp4nagios on it. I have come to the step in the procedure where I set up the nagios web frontend. The templates that need to be configured are shown below: define host { name host-pnp register 0 action_url /nagios/pnp/index.php?host=$HOSTNAME$ } define service { name srv-pnp register 0 action_url /nagios/pnp/index.php?host=$HOSTNAME$srv=$SERVICEDESC$ } I had two questions concerning the templates: 1. What file(s) do I need to modify to properly configure pnp4nagios to operate correctly with the Nagios application? 2. Do the above definitions need to be individually applied to all hosts, or will they automatically cover all hosts that are currently, and in the future will be, monitored by the Nagios server? [Nagios-users] Problems with two plugins timing out
Hi there - I am monitoring a system that functions as a mail and ssh server. Along with the check_ssh and check_smtp plugins, I am also monitoring the mailq, check_mailq, the diskspace, check_disk, and also the processes, check_procs. The latter three plugins are working fine, but the first two, check_ssh and check_smtp, are getting socket timeout errors. The Nagios server and NRPE client are running the 2.6 version. I ran the two plugins from the command line on both the Nagios server, via check_nrpe, and on the client in question, using just the plugins. I included the -p option to specify the port. Both instances resulted in timeouts occurring. The client system is running iptables, and I had configured it to allow what I thought was the appropriate traffic to go and come from the system. Listed below is an excerpt that deals with this issue: ### Accept connections from ip address # Make sure to include these entries in the OUTPUT chain. $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p icmp -s ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 5666 -s ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 5666 -s ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -s ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 22 -s ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -s ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 25 -s ip address -j ACCEPT ... $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p icmp -d ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 5666 -d ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --dport 5666 -d ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -d ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --dport 22 -d ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -d ip address -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --dport 25 -d ip address -j ACCEPT Are there any additional ports that I need to provide exceptions for in order to get the two plugins to work? Re: [Nagios-users] Problems with two plugins timing out
Since the command is failing locally on the client in question, this may not be iptable issue. Do you have these plugins in the correct location? The location of the plugins is the same as the others: /usr/local/npre/libexec Do they have required nagios user ownership. The ownership of the plugins, along with the others is as follows: -rwxr-xr-x 1 nagios nagios 62638 2007-11-28 11:40 check_ssh -rwxr-xr-x 1 nagios nagios 334907 2007-11-28 11:40 check_http Have you enabled debugging options in nrpe to check? I did have debugging turned on via the nrpe.cfg file on the client. However, even after I tried manually running the plugins in question, there was no record of the plugins recorded in the /var/log/messages file on the client, or in a similar file on the server. Please post the command which you are running locally and from Nagios server? The commands that I tried are listed below: -bash-3.2$ ./check_ssh -H ip address CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_ssh -H hostname CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_ssh -H hostname -p 22 CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_ssh -H ip address -p 22 CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_smtp -H hostname CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_smtp -H ip address CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_smtp -H ip address -p 25 CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds -bash-3.2$ ./check_smtp -H hostname -p 25 CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds The information transmitted in this electronic communication is intended only for the person or entity to whom it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. [Nagios-users] Problem Getting NSClient 2.01 to run on Windows Server 2003 Storage Server
Hi there - I am trying to get NSClient 2.01 to run on Windows Server 2003 Storage Server. The syntax there is the following: # Service definition define service{ use generic-service ; Name of service template to use host_name space service_description Check NIS Service is_volatile 0 check_period 24x7 max_check_attempts 3 normal_check_interval 5 retry_check_interval1 contact_groups linux-admins notification_interval 120 notification_period 24x7 notification_optionsw,u,c,r check_commandcheck_nis_space } When I run the nagios -v check, I get an error message stating that the check_nis_space check_command in services.cfg is not defined anywhere. [Nagios-users] Running Nagios 1.x and 2.x on the same server
Hi there - I am currently monitoring a group of HP-UX 10.20 systems with out Nagios 1.4 server. A new 2.6 server is being implemented, but the 2.6 NRPE client will not compile on the 10.20 systems. I am not aware of any 2.6 binaries that will work on the 10.20 systems, so the decision was made to continue using a 1.x server to monitor the workstations in question until they get retired. One idea was to have both Nagios 1.x and 2.x running on the same server and have virtual machines set up for both. Aside from compiling and installing the two servers into separate directories, are there any other issues that I should consider before proceeding? Thanks.
