[Nagios-users] $SERVICENOTIFICATIONID$ - Bug/issue in 3.0.6 ?

2009-02-20 Thread Seth P. Low
Hello,
I am attempting to use the $SERVICENOTIFICATIONID$ macro in notifications
as part of new auditing initiative. However, in Nagios 3.0.6, it is not
behaving as expected. If I trip an alert, I get a notification with the
$SERVICENOTIFICATIONID$ included in the body. The next alert to come in (say
the recovery) is not incremented by one as I would have expected. I have
checked the logs and this was the next notification sent out so it is not as if
some other notifications were sent out to other users which I missed. I did see
several state changes which would account for the numeric delta but none of
those triggered an alert/notification. So, in a way, it appears as if the
$SERVICENOTIFICATIONID$ macro is behaving much more like the $SERVICEEVENTID$
macro. Either this is a bug or I am misunderstanding the macro definition or I
am doing something incorrectly. Can anyone else confirm either the correct or
incorrect behavior in 3.0.6 or explain what I am missing here? Thanks as
always, -Seth

[Nagios-users] Nagios 3.1.0 - Update check feature

2009-01-29 Thread Seth P. Low
In Nagios 3.1.0 there is a new feature:

Added automatic update check functionality - runs once a day to check for new
Nagios releases
Splash screen on web UI now indicates whether a new update is available
(requires that update checks are enabled)

Question - Where do you enable the update checks and are there any other
steps? for years I have just had a check http check that ran a few times a day
and looked for the current version as a string somewhere on the nagios.org
page. Worked really well.

[Nagios-users] Nagios 3.0.1 Web UI Question - Refreshing a page

2008-04-02 Thread Seth P. Low
Hi,
I have recently fired up 3.0.1 and have a question related to the web
UI. I have not seen a solution or workaround posted yet but I have seen the
question asked before. Here goes ... In non-3X nagios installs, if you are on
a page in the web UI and hit refresh, it refreshes the page. In 3.x hitting F5
takes you back to the home page. That is going to be a hard habit to break for
me and a few other admins I have spoken with. First off, are there plans to
modify this behavior going forward and, if not, does anyone have any
workarounds or fixes at this time? Thanks, -Seth

[Nagios-users] Weird request - Want a service in an OK state to appear on the service problems page

2008-01-02 Thread Seth P. Low
Hi,
I know this is a weird request but . I have a NOC where the service
problems page is always up on a large plasma display. While this isn't all that
useful, it makes for some great eye candy for clients ,prospective clients and
management types that like blinky lights. However, I have a single key check
that shows the total number of active uses in our system at any given time.
This check is always in an OK state (although if the number ever was huge we
could have it go to a warning to critical state). So I want that check to be
displayed on the service problem page as well. I know that this is not a normal
request but I was trying to see if there was a way to manipulate the display
filters or concoct a string to add into the status.cgi uri to get this to work.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, -Seth

Re: [Nagios-users] Weird request - Want a service in an OK state to appear on the service problems page

2008-01-02 Thread Seth P. Low
I love the negate plugin and have used it often. However, I want this single
check (which is always in an OK state to show up on our default display page
(as OK) which is the service problem page. The end result would be all of our
service problems in their warning or critical state along with this one check
which is in an OK state. I don't know if I can create a custom page somehow to
do this or modify the URI that is used. I have tried the later with no luck but
I am no CGI whiz. As I said, it is a strange request but makes some sense when
you understand the purpose. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
-Seth

P.S. Right now, I have it set the check be in a warning state but the end
result is that I get more questions about why the logged in / active user count
is warning than it is worth.

I think you can accomplish what you want by using the negate plugin. It
pretty much inverts your results.

Negates the status of a plugin (returns OK for CRITICAL, and
vice-versa).

Usage: negate [-t timeout] definition of wrapped plugin

What utility do you use to check the status of your array now? Can

Re: [Nagios-users] AVTECH Room Alert examples

I just deployed one of these using nagios. You will need to use SNMP. There is
a secret setting that they just put in the most recent version of firmware that
allows the temp and humidity output to be displayed as xx vs (so you have
the device say 67 degrees instead of 6789 degrees). That you need to do by
telnetting to a port (I want to say but I can check) and changing a few
settings. Depending on where you have the sensors plugged in, the OID that you
will need to hit will change. I have a RoomAlert 11E and can tell you more on
how I have it set up if you are interested. Also, I added a -u (units) to the
end of my check command to so that the output in the nagios GUI would say
degrees or relative humidity. Let me know if you need my check commands and
help with the OIDs. Good luck. -Seth

Boy, I'd love to know what that secret setting is. Until now, I've
been using hacks like:

-u x 0.01 degrees F

so that the output was human-readable.

If you could send your check commands to the list, that'd be very
much appreciated!

Re: [Nagios-users] AVTECH Room Alert examples

2007-08-28 Thread Seth P. Low
First, you will need to get check_snmp working. I have the Temp/Humidity
probe plugged into Port 2 (first avail for a sensor RJ-11 style).

Here is my check command:

# 'check_snmp_RoomAlert' command definition
define command  {
command_namecheck_snmp_RoomAlert
command_line$USER1$/check_snmp -P 1 -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -o
$ARG1$ -c $ARG2$ -u $ARG3$
}

Here are the service defs:

define service{
use generic-service ; Name
of service template to use
host_name RoomAlert
service_description DataCenter Temperature
check_command
check_snmp_RoomAlert!1.3.6.1.4.1.20916.1.3.1.2.2.0!60:73!Degrees
Fahrenheit
}

define service{
use generic-service ; Name
of service template to use
host_name RoomAlert
service_description DataCenter Humidity
check_command
check_snmp_RoomAlert!1.3.6.1.4.1.20916.1.3.1.2.3.0!30:45!% Relitive
Humidity
}

I just deployed one of these using nagios. You will need to use SNMP.
There is a secret setting that they just put in the most recent
version of
firmware that allows the temp and humidity output to be displayed as
xx vs
(so you have the device say 67 degrees instead of 6789 degrees).
That
you need to do by telnetting to a port (I want to say but I can
check) and changing a few settings. Depending on where you have the
sensors plugged in, the OID that you will need to hit will change. I
have
a RoomAlert 11E and can tell you more on how I have it set up if you
are
interested. Also, I added a -u (units) to the end of my check command
to
so that the output in the nagios GUI would say degrees or relative
humidity. Let me know if you need my check commands and help with the
 OIDs. Good luck. -Seth

Boy, I'd love to know what that secret setting is. Until now, I've
 been using hacks like:

 -u x 0.01 degrees F

so that the output was human-readable.

If you could send your check commands to the list, that'd be very
 much appreciated!

I second the request, please send your check commands to the list, I
would very much appreciate it.
