[Nagios-users] Monitoring remote server oracle from nagios server using check_oracle_health

2013-01-24 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hi all.

I have some trouble executing check_oracle_health. It would be helpful if
someone can help me out.

I have successfully compiled both ORACLE DBD and check_oracle_health on a
nagios server.
And as a test , I am trying to execute tnsping to the remote oracle server.

Whenever I execute the plugin , I get the follwoing error.

check_oracle_health --connect=xe --user=system --password=root
--mode=connection-time
CRITICAL - cannot connect to xe. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect
identifier specified (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)

The error it self is obvious that its because remote ip address is not defined.

Does anyone know where can you defien the info about address or hostname?

Thanks,
Yu

[Nagios-users] Monitoring Oracle tablespace created with autoextension option

2013-01-20 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to ask for help to people in this mailinglist.

We are trying to monitor Oracle Database which is installed on the Windows
Server.
* Sorry that we cannot reveal the details of the versions at this moment.

Nagios (v 3.0.6) is installed in the Linux box (RHEL 5.2).

I am considerding to monitor the Oracle Table space but hesitating which
plugin to use. The table is created with the autoextension option.

We found "check_oracle_health" but is this the most recommended plugin
to monitor Oracle installed on the Windows Server? Also , if there are any
better plugin , it would be helpful if you can share us the information.

Thanks,
Yu Watanabe

Hello Kazuo.

Nice to meet you too.

Thanks for the reply!

That was the website I was looking for ...

I should have gone from the "nagios" . Not from the nrpe project itself.

So , I was thinking older than v 2.12 might do so.

[Nagios-users] Compiling nrpe_nt on old libssl-dev library

2012-07-08 Thread Yu Watanabe

Hello all.

I would like to ask a question to people in this forum.

There seems to be a compile issue with nrpe_nt with following versions.

OS  : Ubuntu10.04 LTS ( libssl-dev ver. libssl-dev : 0.9.8g-16ubuntu3)
nrpe_nt : 2.12

Error : undefined reference to `get_dh512'

According to the README, this is caused because
the OS library is not properly handling the AES.

However, we are trying to find a way to elude this issue.
Are there anyone who had successfully compiled nrpe_nt
with this version of OS and libssl-dev?

It would be helpful if version of the nrpe_nt can be provided as well.

Thanks,
Yu

[Nagios-users] Compile problem linking iconv library (nagios 3.4.1)

2012-05-27 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hi !

I had some trouble displaying Japanese characters on UI.
I am guessing that this occured because of the link error to iconv library
during the compileation.

configure:5977: checking for main in -liconv
configure:6004: gcc -o conftest -g -O2   conftest.c -liconv   >&5
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -liconv

According to the ldconfig , libiconv seems to be cached properly.

ldconfig -p | grep iconv
libiconv.so.2 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libiconv.so.2

I have tried setting , LD_LIBRARY_PATH or iibdir but
it made no difference.

Does anyone had similar problem with the link error with iconv?

Thanks,
Yu

[Nagios-users] Handling large amount of syslogs with nagios

2012-05-17 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hi all!

I would like to ask for advice for following situation.

In a evironment where 1000 of network devices exists and
nagios monitoring syslogs using passive checks (+syslog-ng) for every hosts,
 huge amount of notifications occurs when there are problem on
network device side. Syslogs will be sent to nagios as a chain reaction from
every
devices although the source is only one device.

To elude this situation,
I am considering an alternate way to monitor syslog and
it would be helpful one can share their thoughts whom had
faced similar situation and came up with cool idea.

My idea is that combination with file (or FIFO) + check_logs.pl (found this in
nagios exchange)
Whenever syslog-ng receives the log, then writes it to file and
nagios actively checks the file with check_logs.pl .
I thought that in this way it can check the logs in group and
save number of notifications.

Thank you for reading.

Thanks,
Yu

Is there a script or a module that can be called through a command line
and can retrieve nagios object definition , host , service?

I am thinking of calling from php program.

I found that config.cgi has an ability of fetching the object definition
but it seems that it returns html info.

It would be helpful if someone can share their thoughts.

Thanks,

Yes. check_snmp nice if the snmp is supported.
With this, you do not need to create additional scripts.

  I saw check_megaraid_sas in the Nagios Exchange which is for the Mega RAID
controller (LSI).
  It will be nice to hear that other vedors has such cli api's which is visible
from the OS.
  SNMP would be nicer too.

[Nagios-users] Disk stat for fsusage.c is compiled in different route between nagios plug v 1.4 and 1.4.15

2011-12-01 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hi!

I have found that the fsusage.c (where get_fs_usage is defined)
is compiled differently in versions between nagios plugins 1.4 and 1.4.15.
I have compiled both plugins on same platform.

In 1.4, fsusage.c is compiled in the route where most of the stats are
retrieved by  'full_read'

150   struct filsys fsd;
151   int fd;
152
153   if (! disk)
154 {
155   errno = 0;
156   return -1;
157 }
158
159   fd = open (disk, O_RDONLY);
160   if (fd < 0)
161 return -1;
162   lseek (fd, (off_t) SUPERBOFF, 0);
163   if (full_read (fd, (char *) &fsd, sizeof fsd) != sizeof fsd)
164 {
165   close (fd);
166   return -1;
167 }
168   close (fd);

'blocksize' is overlapped by 'statfs'

182 #ifdef STAT_STATFS2_BSIZE   /* 4.3BSD, SunOS 4, HP-UX, AIX */
185   struct statfs fsd;
186
187   if (statfs (path, &fsd) < 0)
188 return -1;
189
190   fsp->fsu_blocksize = PROPAGATE_ALL_ONES (fsd.f_bsize);

However , in v 1.4.15 , fsusage.c is compiled in the route where all the stats
are
retrieved by 'statfs'

171 #elif defined STAT_STATFS2_BSIZE/* 4.3BSD, SunOS 4, HP-UX, AIX
*/
173
174   struct statfs fsd;
175
176   if (statfs (file, &fsd) < 0)
177 return -1;
178
179   fsp->fsu_blocksize = PROPAGATE_ALL_ONES (fsd.f_bsize);

then it goes into the route,

232 #if (defined STAT_STATVFS \
233  || (!defined STAT_STATFS2_FS_DATA && !defined STAT_READ_FILSYS))
234
236   fsp->fsu_blocks = PROPAGATE_ALL_ONES (fsd.f_blocks);
237   fsp->fsu_bfree = PROPAGATE_ALL_ONES (fsd.f_bfree);
238   fsp->fsu_bavail = PROPAGATE_TOP_BIT (fsd.f_bavail);
239   fsp->fsu_bavail_top_bit_set = EXTRACT_TOP_BIT (fsd.f_bavail) != 0;
240   fsp->fsu_files = PROPAGATE_ALL_ONES (fsd.f_files);
241   fsp->fsu_ffree = PROPAGATE_ALL_ONES (fsd.f_ffree);
242
243 #endif

This difference cases the difference in the output.

(v 1.4)
DISK OK - free space: / 17211 MB (35%);| /=32385MB;34716;44635;0;49595

(v 1.4.15)
DISK OK - free space: / 17210 MB (36% inode=98%);| /=29825MB;34716;44635;0;49595

This seems to be caused in the configure where all the compile
options are decided. I am trying to figure out why there is a
difference in the compile option. The inode prompts correctly
in RHEL 4.

It would be helpful if someone can give me a hand with this...

Thanks,
Yu

[Nagios-users] Question about the calculation of service check latency

2011-10-30 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hi all!

I would like to ask question about the calculation of service check latency.

In the code (events.c), the service check latency is calculated as,

latency = (double)((double)(tv.tv_sec - event->run_time) + (double)(tv.tv_usec
/ 1000) / 1000.0);

I was wondering, what is the below caculation is meant for?

(double)(tv.tv_usec / 1000) / 1000.0);

Thanks,
Yu

  We didnt have time to do your suggestions , sorry about that...
  However, when I take off the notification event, the average service latency
  goes down below 1 sec in both servers. This was very strange.

[Nagios-users] Service check latency rises when service notification event occurs frequently

2011-10-17 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hi all!

We are doing some performance test with nagios 3.3.1 in following
environement.

Server 1

RHEL 5.5 64 bit
1CPU Xeon E3-1220 3.10 GHz
Memory8GB
Disk  450GB (Raid 1)

Server 2

RHEL 5.5 64 bit
2CPU Xeon E5630 2.53 GHz
Memory8GB
Disk  300GB (Raid 5)

3011 hosts
6173 services (3011 ping check)

Also putting some loads on the background,

1. 347 syslog msg per sec
2. 1 passvie service check per sec for notification event to two contact group
3. 30 ms of network traffic latency
4. cacti polling

I have realized that Server 1 has service check latency for average 80 second
but
server 2 has average below 10 second.

Does notification process naturally effect the service check scheduling?

Thanks,
Yu

[Nagios-users] Ping massive number of hosts

2011-08-29 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to hear opinion from everyone whom had experience
of pinging massive number of hosts.

Version of nagios we are considering to use is v 3.2.3 on RHEL 5 64 bit machine.
The number of hosts we are trying to check is 3000.

Since, we have never done this amount of hosts before, I am concerned of the
load
on nagios by executing active ping service checks.

Has anyone had done this amount of active ping checks? Or ,
should we use the fping periodically by crontab and send as passive checks

Thaks!
Yu Watanabe

Thank you for the advice. Fetching through unix domain socekt seems to be
interesting.
In memory access will definitely be more effective than raw file access.

I will check this further.

Thanks,
Yu

[Nagios-users] Accessing host and service status from external application

2011-08-15 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I want to access the host and service status from external application.
The nagios version will be v 3.3.1.

I was searching in nagios exchange for the most effective way to access to the
data
 by not affecting the nagios but couldn't decide the best one.
(i.e status file , NDO , etc )

I thought maybe the fastest and stable way might be the status file access.

What would be the effective way to access host and service status from Nagios?

Thanks,
Yu Watanabe

[Nagios-users] Calculation of nagios latency in nagiostas

2011-02-21 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to ask question for the calculation with nagios latecy.
In the nagiostats.c , the calculation of 'average_active_service_latency' is
not doing the simple way, which is

1. Add up the latecy of each service
2. Devide by the number of services

rather than above it is caculating as,

average_active_service_latency=(((average_active_service_latency*((double)active_service_checks-1.0))+latency)/(double)active_service_checks);

1. Revert the average sum by multiplying the previous average and number of
checks
2. Add up the latency of the current line
3. Devide by the number of services

Would there be a specific reason or thought in this calculation?

Thanks,
Yu Watanabe

[Nagios-users] High Latency with service checks

2011-02-15 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello All.

I would like to get an advice with nagios latency issue.

In nagios 3.0.6 with RHEL 4, would there be a possibility
that service check latency hikes even though the sar or iostat
usage is not in relatively high load usage? (I am planning to upgrade to v
3.2.3 soon.)

SAR average cpu usage were 40% and iowait was lying 0%. Swaping were not
occuring.

I have more than 1000 ping checks and average latency are 20 min. Check
execution time for ping is
all below 1 sec. Plugin I am using is check_icmp.

CPU I am using is ,
Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz
Memory is 8GB
OS is RHEL 4.4

Are there any possiblity that Nagios gets locked up with the service check
scheduling?

Thanks,
Yu

In the exception area of timeperiod definitions , when you specify you own

it seems that Nagios is not acknowledging the period.

Is this a know issue in Nagios?

Re: [Nagios-users] Check behavior during the notification event

2011-01-06 Thread Yu Watanabe
It would be a great help if you could help me out with my additional question.

I was trying to find how does nagios determine the interval time between the
high priority events
in the source code but I couldn't find the part.

I found was the following line in the event.c

958 /* handle high priority events */
959 if(event_list_high!=NULL &&
(current_time>=event_list_high->run_time)){
960
961 /* remove the first event from the timing loop
*/
962 temp_event=event_list_high;
963 event_list_high=event_list_high->next;
964
965 /* handle the event */
966 handle_timed_event(temp_event);
967
968 /* reschedule the event if necessary */
969 if(temp_event->recurring==TRUE)
970
reschedule_event(temp_event,&event_list_high);
971
972 /* else free memory associated with the event */
973 else
974 free(temp_event);
975 }

Do you have any idea how does nagios determine the value 30 seconds,
between the high priority events?

Thank you for reading.

Thanks,
Yu

  Do you mean by 40 second per Notfication event or took 40 seconds to send
  20 contacts?

Thank you for the reply.

I understood that notification events will hang up the normal service check
events.

I was bit curious about your comment.

  If you could share your knowledge it would be helpful.
  Does people create external application that scans the nagios.log without
using
  any of Event Handlers or Notification Events of Nagios? Or perhaps event
broker?

[Nagios-users] Check behavior during the notification event

Hello all.

I would like to ask a question regarding to the behavior of check scheduling
during the massive number of notification event is occuring.

I have couple of notification group defeined in each service but when
notification
alerts occur consecutively among multiple services, it seems that nagios
sequentially
process the notification events, not simultaneously.

nagiosadmin;eam01;ssh_proc_alv_EAM_CX2600_220_40;CRITICAL;notify-by-email;

Is this a normal behavior with nagios ? (The version is 2.10)
I found a chapter in Nagios manual describes about the check delay of high
priority events but
wasn't sure if the situation corresponds to the manual or not.

"Examples of high priority events include log file rotations, external
command checks, and service reaper events. Additionally, host checks will slow
down the execution
and processing of service checks."

[Nagios-users] Timing of the deleteion of service check from the event queue

2011-01-05 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to ask for an advice about when does nagios removes the service
check
from the event queue.

I was following the source code but couldn't actually find the part
that actually removes the service check.

Does it removes after the reaper event or after the execution of the command ?

Thanks,
Yu Watanabe

Re: [Nagios-users] Difference between the timeout service and orphaned service

2011-01-05 Thread Yu Watanabe
Thank you for the reply.

Could I ask you a further question?

In the manual the orphaned services are defined as

"This option allows you to enable or disable checks for orphaned service
checks. Orphaned service
checks are checks which ahve been executed and have been removed from the event
queue, but have
not had any results reported in a long time. Since no results have come back in
for the service, it is not
rescheduled in the event queue. This can cause service checks to stop being
executed. Normally it is
very rare for this to happen - it might happen if an external user or process
killed off the process that
was being used to execute a service check. "

To be more specific, is this a kind of status that in the memory , nagios is
acknowledging that this service is still checking but actually the plugin
did not return anything although the process is already dead?

Thank you for reading.

[Nagios-users] UTF-8 charcterest for nagios 3.2.3

2010-11-23 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to ask a question regarding to the charset for nagios 3.2.3.

The cgi for nagios 3.2.3 seems to be not capable of UTF 8 characters,
espicially Japanese characters.
I find that there are Japanese patches for nagios but nagios 3.2.3 is not
supported yet.

If anyone has a experience of dealing with the non ascii characters on 3.2.3 ,
could you please share your knowledge?

Thank you ,

  Sorry my words were wrong. I meant by the interval is not the value that
  I have specified. If I list both host check and service check, it
  would be like this:

[1289460901] SERVICE ALERT: localhost;icmp_ping;CRITICAL;SOFT;1;CRITICAL -
Network Unreachable (192.1.1.1)
[1289460911] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;1;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,

Network Unreachable (192.1.1.1)
[1289460951] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;2;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289460991] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;3;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461011] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;4;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461032] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;5;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461071] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;6;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461101] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;7;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[128946] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;8;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461151] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;9;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461191] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;HARD;10;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%

  However, when it comes to the 4th host check , the host check occured only in
20 seconds
  not 40 seconds. I see that service check already turned to HARD status ,so I
just
  don't see the reason why the interval suddenly changed to 20 seconds.

Any idea about this?

  Such as Nagios fails to reschedule according to the host check retry.

[Nagios-users] Nagios host check retry interval inconsistent

2010-11-11 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to ask a regarding to the host check retry interval.
This is about nagios 3.0.6 , little bit old.

I have set the interval length as 30 and the host check retry interval as
default , 1.

However, the interval seems to be not always 40 which includes the reaper
interval.

[1289460951] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;2;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289460991] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;3;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461011] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;4;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461032] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;5;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461071] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;6;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461101] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;7;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[128946] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;8;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461151] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;SOFT;9;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%
[1289461191] HOST ALERT: localhost;DOWN;HARD;10;CRITICAL - 192.1.1.1: rta nan,
lost 100%

Is there a certain rule in nagios process about this ?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

[Nagios-users] Shortening the reschedule preiod after the commit

2010-10-15 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to get an advice about the rescheduling process after the restart.

As far as I see the nagios operation, checks that are scheduled
during the restart nagios are rescheduled after the restart.

However, if thougsands of services are defined in nagios,
some of the checks are rescheduled way behind the queue.

Would there be a way to shorten the period of time for the reschedule?

Thanks!

[Nagios-users] Help! About Service Check rescheduling process

2010-09-30 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to get an advice with the service check rescheduling mechanism.
I have asked before but didn't get a reply so asking for advice again.

I am using nagios 3.0.6 on Linux machine. I have realized that if the
next scheduling time specifed in the status file collides with the period
 of nagios restart, nagios seems to reschedule the time.

Specifically, on certain service,

next schedule time is set as 2010-09-10 22:46:34
nagios restart occurs on 2010-09-10 22:46:16 *
next schedule time is rescheduled to 2010-09-10 23:01:38

Would there be a way to make nagios check immediately rather than rescheduling?

Any advice would be helpful!

Thank you!

Hello Jim.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes MySQL seems to be dominating the CPU. But as far as I see
the sar and free result , also taking the CPU spec into account,
there seems to be space for Nagios to use more resource.

So , first I will change the 'check_external_commands' to -1
and see what happens.

Thanks!

[Nagios-users] [Help] Behaviour of on-demand function for host check

2010-09-01 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to get some help with the on-demand ability for host check.
In the manual it says ,

"Regularly scheduled host checks are optional. If you set the check_interval
option in your host definition to zero (0), Nagios will not perform checks
of the hosts on a regular basis. It will, however, still perform on-demand
checks of the host as needed for other parts of the monitoring logic. "

I thought if the 'check_interval' parameter was not specified ,
the host check would become as on-demand check.

However, I have a following definition on a certain host
but the check interval is '5 min'.

* I have the time unit as the defualt value.

# host object definition
define host {
host_name   elangen
alias   elangen
address 192.168.1.154
parents localhost
hostgroups  linux-servers
check_command   check-host-alive
use generic-host
register1
}

# host template object definition
define host {
   name generic-host
   check_commandcheck-host-alive
   max_check_attempts   3
   retry_interval   1
   check_period 24x7
   event_handler_enabled1
   flap_detection_enabled   1
   process_perf_data1
   retain_status_information1
   retain_nonstatus_information 1
   contacts nagiosadmin
   contact_groups   admins
   notification_period  24x7
   notification_options d,u,r,f
   notifications_enabled1
   action_url
/pnp4nagios/index.php/graph?host=$HOSTNAME$&srv=_HOST_
   failure_prediction_enabled   1
   register 0

}

Do I have to set the actual 'check_interval' as 0 in order to use the on-demand
ability?

Thank you
Yu Watanabe

Hello Jim.

Thank you for your support and affording your time.

Yes , the document I read was the link you have sent to me.
However, I was not sure whcich parameter should I change intitally.

Regarding to the check_interval, we want to choose this option
as a last option since ping checks are very important.

I am thinking of change the parameters in following order:

1. Increase external buffer slot
>From :
  # external_command_buffer_slots=

To   :
  external_command_buffer_slots=768

2. Change the external command check interval
>From :
  check_external_commands=1

TO   :
  check_external_commands=-1

[Nagios-users] Tuning for Passive Check latency

2010-08-17 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

We would like to ask some tips with how to tune up fof the Passvie Check.

Currently we are experiencing following latency in passive check,

Passive Service Latency:0.586 / 101257.403 / 768.626 sec

# nagios version is 3.0.6

I have read manual but I would like to get an advice
exactly which parameteres should I change in nagios.cfg.

Thank you,

[Nagios-users] Possibility of service check rescheduling problem

2010-08-17 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to confirm if there is such possibility that , whenever program
restart occurs, service check
resume properly as it is stored in the state retention file.

In this condition , following options are activated in nagios.cfg:

State retention option
State retention file
Retention update interval
Use retained program state
Use retained scheduling info

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you
Yu Watanabe

Re: [Nagios-users] Status file not updating ( ver. 3.0.6 )

2010-08-03 Thread Yu Watanabe
Thank you for the reply, Assaf.

Update of the status.dat file fails randomly, there are times when it succeeds,
I'd say the directory permission problem isn't the case.

>From your speculation, it seems that some other process breaks in and
stops the process of nagios.

I will check cron's.

At worst , would it be useful to check the debug for nagios?

Thank you,
Yu Watanabe

Thank you very much for the reply.

THe Nagios is using the 'internal' log rotation which is daily.

Would this have a affection to the update for status.log?

Hello all.

I would like to get an advice for the problem we are experiencing.

Question is for Nagios ver 3.0.6. The problem is that there are times when
status.log
file seems to be not updating for a while.

This happens randomly but mostly concentrates on midnight.

Does this possibly happen whenever logrotation or anytime when restart occurs?

Thank you,

Hello all.

I would like to ask a question regarding to "Host Definition" in Nagios

In the "Object Definitions -> Host Definition", the host retry interval is set
as "#".
What would be the interval lentgh that Nagios is actually performed with this
value?
Would it be the default time unit , 60 sec?

Hello Robert.

I would use that instead...

Would you please give us an advice to my question?

Whenever nagios restarts, is there any affection to the service notification
sequence
that has been occuring every 24hours on a certain service?

For example,

  If notification is occuring every 8:00 a.m. remaining the same CRITICAL
status, and if a restart occurs like 10:00 p.m.

  [2010/01/13 22:24:06] Caught SIGTERM, shutting down...
  [2010/01/13 22:24:06] Successfully shutdown... (PID=31954)

  would the notification stops for a next day and be sent on the next , next
day?

Thank you,
Yu Watanabe

Re: [Nagios-users] Re-send: Notificaitons after the commit

2010-03-02 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello Assaf

Sorry, for ambiguous expression.

Word "Commit", I used in the meaning of executing the following command,

/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg
/etc/init.d/nagios restart

And yes. After the above command, the notification that was been occuring every
24hours before then
suddenly stopped. So, I doubted the restart procedure if this is doing
something wrond.

Thank you
Yu Watanabe

[Nagios-users] About Host Check scheduling

2010-01-29 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all

I have a question regarding to Host Check scheduling.

I am using Nagios 3.0.6. And I see that usually host check uses
on demand check for its scheduling.

When the Host Check turns into non UP stautus, this scheduling seems to be
flexible.

Is there any rules in Nagios for the check scheduling for retry?

Like if it is "Service Time Out" , nagios schedules its check with in a minute
, etc.

Any advice would be useful!

Thank you

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios is logging "Service Check Timed Out" for certain service

2009-12-20 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello Jim.

I still cannnot solve why this had occured.
So , would you please give us an advice?

In the previous mail , I have realized that
the detail about the situation was not articulated.

Following are the details about the situation:

1. About the log checking process:
  There is one active check and one passive service check to do the job.

  The active check service scans the log file using the pre defined
regexpression.
  If there are any lines that matches the regex, it send the result to the
passive service.

2. Only the active check for log checkin process returns "Service Timed Out"
  All the other services but the corresponding active check were returning
proper
  check result.

3. The active check itself was not executed.
  This, I found out by writing a debug line in the active check plugin.
  I wrote a debug line at the very top of the source code but even though the
  check time came , the debug log wasn't created.

The most suspicious fact is 2 and 3. If the the reason was completely dependent
on the plugin,
there must be some kind of debug log created, but since the plugin itself was
not
executed , it is becoming a little bit tricky.

Would it possibe to here your opinion about this ?

Thank you
Yu Watanabe

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios is logging "Service Check Timed Out" for certain service

2009-12-01 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello Jim

Uh, I'm afraid the problem isn't solved yet.

First of all , my explanation wasn't enough.

The sequence of the syslog checking was the following:

1. Scan through the syslog file (Active Check)
2. If any error exist, transfer to passive service in Nagios (Passive Check)

So I have defined 2 services in Nagios , 1 Active service check and 1 Passive
service check.

However the problem was above 1 wasn't executed from Nagios.

Hello Jim.

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the late reply from me.

Well , my situation was using plugin that scans through the syslog file and
whenever any regular expression match occurs it sends an passive check alert to
nagios.

Weird thing was there was existing log file but nagios plugin itself
was not executed.

[Nagios-users] Nagios is logging "Service Check Timed Out" for certain service

2009-11-24 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello All.

I am gathering information for a problem I had experienced in nagios v2.10.

I was running Nagios on RHEL 4.5. The story is that Nagios suddenly started
returing "Service Check Timed Out"
on a certain service, not on other services. The time that "Service Check Timed
Out" started occuring was
23:13:48.

Has anyone had such experience?

Thank you

Re: [Nagios-users] About Nagios Avail Report

2009-11-23 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello Jim

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, like you mentioned , I've confirmed that
whenever you deactivate the "Assume States During Program Downtime" option
Nagios does not assume the state during the Downtime , which I assume the
total amount time of the "Normal program termination" period.

I also found out that whenever "Assume Initial States" is deactivated ,
Naios does not assume the state of the period when the status of host and
service
does not exist in the nagios.log , or time when log file itself does not exist.
This amount of time would be counted up as "Insufficient Data".

Thank you
Yu Watanabe

[Nagios-users] PENDING status in Nagios v3.0.6

2009-09-27 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I have a question ask regarding to the status , Pending , in Nagios.
Would someone please give me an advice with this?

I understand that the Nagios assumes the hosts and its services as UP and OK
status
although the status is shown PEDNING in the Nagios user interface , such as
service overview.

However, I have also checked the status.dat and the retention.log for
particular host that it's
host status and service status is in non-error state but the nagios user
interface is still
showing the host Pending.

Is there an special condition to make the host transit to non-Pending status?

Thank you
Yu

Thank you for the reply.

I will check the configuration if this is the case or not.

[Nagios-users] Is there such thing as automatic passive service check?

2009-08-31 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

We are using Nagios v 3.0.6 and experiecned a strange situation.
The services which we have deactivated the active check had been
changed to OK status , service output as "OK".

Does nagios automatically update the Pending status services and
change it to OK stauts?

Thank you

[Nagios-users] Newly created hosts are not showing neither in Service Detail view nor Service Overview

2009-08-24 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all

I would like to ask a question regarding to status cgi of v 3.0.6.

The Situation is that there are hosts that exist in the "Host Status Details"
but not in the "Service Detail" or "Service Overview"

Followig are few explanation of our nagios configuration file.

1. CGI authentication parameteres are defined as following:

  # USE AUTHENTICATION
  use_authentication=1

  # DEFAULT USER NAME
  default_user_name=nagiosadmin

  # AUTHORIZED FOR SYSTEM INFORMATION
  authorized_for_system_information=nagiosadmin,theboss,jdoe

  # AUTHORIZED FOR SYSTEM COMMANDS
  authorized_for_system_commands=nagiosadmin

  # AUTHORIZED FOR CONFIGURATION INFORMATION
  authorized_for_configuration_information=nagiosadmin,jdoe

  # AUTHORIZED FOR ALL SERVICES
  authorized_for_all_services=nagiosadmin,guest

  # AUTHORIZED FOR ALL HOSTS
  authorized_for_all_hosts=nagiosadmin,guest

  # AUTHORIZED FOR ALL HOST COMMANDS
  authorized_for_all_host_commands=nagiosadmin

  # AUTHORIZED FOR ALL SERVICE COMMANDS
  authorized_for_all_service_commands=nagiosadmin

2. All the host and service contacts are defining nagiosadmin for its
   contact.

Could someone help us out with this issue ?

Thank you
