I tried 5289 and that works.

I gather 5290 crashes but I will try it anyway.

Hi,

I quickly tried the non-working build from an ext2 partition but that
didn't work either.

However build 5049 has fixed it.

Many thanks.

I have a vague memory of a similar issue several years ago in the
Atari build. A file or folder that was not created when needed.
It had to be created manually.

Could this be a general problem with the way Netsurf creates files
or folders in the Atari build ?

Re: Atari build 5032: cache folder

2020-03-11 Thread Peter Slegg

Yes I tried 5033 as well, same problem.

Like I said, IF there is a problem with the cache it deletes the
folder and then doesn't re-create it.

Experiment:
Delete/Move your cache folder and create a new, empty one.
Start Netsurf.

I reckon it will throw an error and not start.

Atari build 5032: cache folder

2020-02-29 Thread Peter Slegg

I have just installed the Atari test build 5032 and it throws an error.

NetSurf failed to initialise

I switched the binary back to a previous build but that failed as
well. Investigation showed that the cache folder had gone.

I re-created it and the older version runs again but 5032 deletes it.

I was worried that these error pages might be very slow on an
Atari (68060) but they aren't.

Although "FetchErrorTitle" is a little confusing:

No. It's repeatable and I was able to open it with another browser.

I lowered it to 10 but it is still the same.

2018-02-14 Thread Peter Slegg
Netsurf isn't able to open this link:

https://blog.backyardworlds.org/2018/02/14/we-love-you-and-happy-anniversary/

It just says "Unable to fetch document" after ~20s.

In choices I have:

curl_fetch_timeout:180

In can open it in Cab without difficulty.

I don't know if this is bad html or a NS issue but it seems to be the

Opening a local file

If I drag & drop a file into the Netsurf window, a dialogue box appears
asking if I want to open the file.

I click Yes, it tries but fails because the filepath/name has single
quotes wrapped around it.

eg.

If I remove the single quotes it works.

This is with the Atari builds (CI 4085).

Hi,

As a frequent user of the Atari NS build I passed on your comments
to the Freemint (OS) mailing list.

I don't pretend to know much about the toolchain but they have asked
for some more details about what the issues are ?

My hope is that they may be able to investigate and improve things.

The Freemint OS recently moved onto Github.

2017-02-05 Thread Peter Slegg

I just had a quick look at w3 schools and noticed that the
left-hand code pane is rendered too small.

The right-hand pane isn't shown at all, it's an iframecontainer.

This is in the Atari build 3978.

Is it the same for other builds ?

I had a repeatable crash when opening www.amazon.co.uk with

does the same.

I can raise a bug but it would be useful to know if others have the

curl_fetch_timeout:100

This sounds like the sort of session behaviour that (Oracle) single sign-on

Since the Atari is one of the slower machines using Netsurf I
imagine it is good test for highlighting anything reducing speed.
High-end users might not notice a small speed drop.

I am going to work back through the versions to see if it is a real

I haven't made any changes that could have affected the performance.

These might not be specific to the Atari build but now that js is
implemented I gave my router admin pages another test.

Enter the ip address of the router 192.168.0.1 and NS reports
that it is running out of memory.

Enter it as http://192.168.0.1 and the login dialogue appears.

I have to backspace to remove the - characters.

The password is not hidden.

The page has a js a redirect which doesn't work.

I spotted this in the git commits last night. I tried the build but
I don't think the setting is exposed in the Atari Choices dialogue.

I just tried build 3296 but I wasn't sure whether 0 or 1 was on.
After a couple of failed attempts, I think I needed an extra LF in
the choices file, I seem to have JS working.

The link above gives a character based Mandelbrot:

Brilliant :-)

I am off to try some more tests.

Many thanks all.

Very slow page rendering

2016-01-09 Thread Peter Slegg

http://git.netsurf-browser.org/netsurf.git/tree/atari/gemtk/guiwin.c

This page takes abut 20mins to download and render, Highwire browser
takes about 6sec.

I think the difference is that Highwire doesn't handle the css
so maybe there could be some performance gains to be had in
either downloading or the css handling ?

I am using a build from today and I know it is never going to be
lighting quick on an M68060 but my point is that the speed seems
unduly slow over an adsl link that normally downloads at 350k/s.

I have reported before that Netsurf on the Atari seems slow at
downloading pages so it might just be an issue with how Netsurf is
using the OS ? It's not my area of expertise.

Is it because there are a lot of files ?
Is it a cache issue ?

Long delays can often be observed on other pages. The git url is
a useful test case because it is fairly stable and repeatable.

No criticism, I am hoping this might help the devs find some speed
improvements.

Peter

Can someone else try the Ski Club GB website and see if it does

The page open successfully apart from the mouse pointer disappearring.
I recover it with a keyboard shortcut but is suggests there is a problem.

Then I clicked on the Snow & Weather link in the blue bar and there
was an error about the server, then Netsurf crashed.

I repeated this 3 times and on the fourth time, the page has opened
correctly after the mouse pointer vanished 3 or 4 times.

I am going to repeat it the test and make a note of the exact error
message.

I was able to repeat the test and got the same result.
The error was:

Failure when receiving data from the peer

The I noticed in the console:

  render/html_object.c:125: html_object_callback: Assertion `c->base.status !=
CONTENT_STATUS_ERROR' failed.

I suspect the vanishing mouse pointer is simple due to the slow
rendering of the page. If I wait then the pointer reappears on
its own.

I've been exclusively using the Atari CI builds for a long time
and it has become my prime browser on the Atari because it makes
the best job or rendering most pages.

I usually update 2-3 times each month. I can't remember when
the last one was unstable.

There are some issues, speed being the main one. This isn't
a JS issue because there isn't a JS build for the Atari.
It would be nice to try one.

Great work and a big thanks to everyone involved.

I think the progress page needs an update :-)

It strikes me that that is not a URL.

As this is a Netsurf list, do you mean http://uk.news.yahoo.com ? That
 orks here. As does https://uk.news.yahoo.com

Is the http really necessary ? Shouldn't it just

The link I was given wasn't https but the https page does try to

That's interesting, and indeed the site is misbehaving today. Loading
