Somewhere between #540 and #570 this has been fixed and the page now

This is what I intended to indicate in the explanatory paragraph, "In
fairness the file is a data file..."

This is a report on the behaviour of recent test releases of NetSurf
showing an inconsistency with what has gone before and with mainstream
browsers. I would have expected a complaint about the content more
than a warning about memory availability in this case.

NetSurf running out of memory

2012-10-17 Thread Brian Jordan
The page shown at www.bjordan.org.uk/test/index.html has started
throwing up a "NetSurf is running out of memory" error since at least
NetSurf 3.0 (Dev CI#471) and up to 492.

In fairness the file is a data file named as .html and RISC OS file
typed as HTML; it is prepared for use in a program which later adds it
to a template file to produce a valid page. The file contains valid
HTML and for many years I have been able to open it in NetSurf as part
of the editing process.

It opens as expected in NetSurf 2.9 and in the main Windows browsers
and is available in a .zip file at www.bjordan.org.uk/test/test.zip

I have tracked down the cause of at least some of the "out of memory"
errors that I have been getting.

They are being caused by hard spaces (&A0) which have crept into my
html instead of spaces (&20).

You can see this with the following minimal example. These two files
are apparently identical. One has soft spaces and loads, the other
hard spaces and gives the out of memory message.

The "out of memory" error almost never means you're out of memory. It's
just caused by the vagueries of how some parts of NetSurf handle errors
and other parts not being expressive enough.

Yes, we're working on that, too.

I have a log of a session during which this (on www.burdastyle.com not
infrequent, but apparently here always benign) error message occurs,
although with no other ill-effects: it seems to be related to cookies
- which would explain why it only ever occurs when logged-in - since the
relevant section reads

(544.30) riscos/bitmap.c bitmap_maintain 813: Performing maintenance.
(544.31) desktop/cookies.c cookies_create_cookie_node 271: malloc failed
(544.31) riscos/gui.c warn_user 2301: NoMemory (null)

I'm not clear if we're talking about the same problem here as that
evinced on the bank sites. Would you like this log as well?

How interesting Brian, I was about to write up a note and post it when
your posting arrived...
We had the very same problem with LloydsTSB a few day ago, so we updated
to version r13351 (27 Dec 2011) but the memory problem persists.
That's on SARPCs one with Select 4.39 and this one with 6.20.

Anyone else had the return of this old problem?

Netsurf Running Out of Memory

2011-12-31 Thread Brian
Hello
Using Netsurf r 13320 and only accessing one website today I had a
dialogue box from Netsurf saying it was running out of memory.

I went to the online page at Bank of Scotland:
https://online.bankofscotland.co.uk/personal/logon/login.jsp

It does then go to a mobile site version which works fine with Netsurf
or you can go back to the desktop site.

Immediately, a Cookie confirmation box comes up which is fine, but this
happens everytime. After you accept it, the hard drive is being
accessed continuously, then after one ot two clicks on the webpage it
reports that memory is running out.

Regards.
