[Nighthawk Lovers] Any Georgia folk here?

2018-04-23 Thread Corey Sims
Hey everyone! New to the group. Just wanted to see if there were any folks
around the Atlanta area!
Finally got my 83 NH 650 put together, well almost. It was sitting in
my father in law's barn for a good 10+ years. Took it on as a project and
now its down to the final touches.
Why is bleeding brakes and master cylinder such a P.I.T.A?
Bike had no brake fluid when I brought it home. Just rebuild slave and
master cylinder, as well as the calipers.
Zero pressure on either lever and I am not seeing bubbles at all when i
pump the levers.
Any thoughts or ideas?

2018-04-23 Thread Lar
Did you drain the carb bowels several times to get fresh fuel in them?
I'd put lots of Seafoam in the fuel, then drain the carbs at least twice
out the bottom. I use a little plastic hose on one carb bottom at a time
and unscrew the drain screw. You can refill the carbs bowels without
cranking the engine by putting another little hose on the shut off valve
where it attaches to the carbs and by sucking to create a vacuum the fuel
will flow. It's worth a try before you start pulling the carbs off.
Good luck

[Nighthawk Lovers] 83 CB650SC won't start

2018-04-23 Thread Jared Clifton
Hey all,
Looking for some suggestions. I have an '83 Nighthawk 650 that
unfortunately sat for a long time with gas in the tank. Now I can't get it
to start. I siphoned out all the old bad gas and put in some new, charged
the battery, but it just turns over until it drains the battery. I haven't
ridden much in the last year and a half, so it sat for a long time. Last
time I rode was in October, but it had been sitting for quite a while
before that (with the same, old gas in the tank). It ran a bit rough at
lower RPMs, but I figured that was just the old gas in it.

Any suggestions on getting this thing to start short of dismantling the
carbs and trying to clean everything out? I'm moderately mechanically
inclined, but I'd rather not have to do that if I don't have to. Just
hoping there's some quick easy things I could try.
