Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Help removing tank on 1984 700S

Support the rear of the tank to get it out of the way. The lines are
connected to the fuel shut-off. There is also an electrical connection.
Before you reconnect the lines make sure the ends aren't split or cracked.

Check the battery too, an internal issue can cause rapid discharge. Cheaper
to replace also.

I have an '83 650 and 84 750. I've never had to touch the carbs and they
both work perfectly. Good idle and both pull strong up to about 8000 (my
redline). Just use Seafoam each fall before storing.
Guess I've been lucky.

My 650 is an '83, the 750 is an '84. I can do about 6 hours on either one
but find the 750 more comfortable. Mileage is about the same, maybe because
the 650 has to work harder.

My spedometer is out by 10k all through the scale. A small dab of white
paint at the highway speed limit fixed it for me.

Sorry, you're right. I don't have the thread in my e-mail so this might be
a repeat . Have you tried using a charger to charge the battery? It might
be a bad cell.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Tires

I'm looking for comments (experiences) with rear tires on a '84 750
Nighthawk. I've tried several brands and can't find one that gives me
decent mileage.
The Dunlop 402 is the best I've used so far (except that it's got Harley
Davidson written on it).

Lay them along the inside of the frame rails. If you point them down a
strong cross-wind will cause the engine to cut out.

shield on my bike and getting it just right when I put things back together
is a chore.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Left rear turn signal won't work

So far, using my ohm meter, I've checked out the wiring from under the seat
to the bulb holder and confirmed that the bulb is OK. Also replaced the
flasher.
No luck.
Any ideas as to where to go from here will be greatly appreciated.

I missed your comments on this (don't know how). Yes take out the two
screws and the whole headlight assembly pivots forward.

Yes, nothing there except the wiring diagram. It looks like a yellow wire
goes to one of the coils.
I checked those connections and they seem OK.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Tach (this may be posted twice)

My tach works when it wants to. It's fine most of the time then the needle
suddenly starts jumping all over the place. I'm guessing a bad connection
but where?
