[No Thirst Software] Re: Tax deductions
Hi Kevin, It sounds like a separate set of buckets is a solution for documenting tax related transactions. I'm wondering what the intent of the program is for handling those tax related transactions where only a percentage is tax related. For example, if someone owns a at-home small business where a percentage of their home rent is tax related (say 10%). Would the MoneyWell solution then be to create two buckets - 1) Rent (tax related) 2) Rent (not tax related), and change the spending plan so that 10% is allocated to Rent (tax related) and then split transactions? Although this does increase the number of buckets, perhaps more importantly, it may change how buckets are used. In addition to handling purchases, a user now must consider their plans for tax- related usage. Or, perhaps work-around would be ad-hoc transfers from a 'main' bucket to the 'twin' (tax-related) bucket. What do you think is the easiest/cleanest way to handle split tax- related transactions in the program? Greg, If you don't consider these charity because of the lack of documentation, then you can create a bucket to track these and call them whatever you want. Maybe Donations is a good name. [No Thirst Software] Tax deductions
Hi Kevin, I bought a license last month and quite happy with the product. One question I have is about tax related items. I have figured out how to mark a bucket as a tax related bucket but I'm unsure how to mark an individual transaction as tax related. In some circumstances, I have individual transactions I would like to mark as tax related so I can have them included in related reports. For example, I have a bucket named 'Charity'. Not all charity transactions are tax-related. Instead of creating two buckets 1) Charity-not_tax_related and 2) Charity-tax_related, I would prefer to have just one bucket Charity. Hi Greg, There is no way to mark individual transactions as tax-related and I don't have plans to change this behavior. I'm not sure I've ever seen an application allow this type of flag in a personal finance program. I'm also curious how you'd have a charity transaction that is not tax related. [No Thirst Software] Importing new bank statement creates new bank
Hi, I'm sure there is a way to do this but I can't find it searching the FAQ's, movies and the google groups. When I import a bank statement, it creates a new bank but I want it to take the transactions from that merged statement and add them to the existing account. The import worked great the first time, it creates a new account with all the transactions - the second time, I need it to import only those transactions that are not duplicates. [No Thirst Software] 2 bugs
Just noticed 2 bugs while trying 1.4 (someone linked to it on another post) 1) When creating new buckets with the name (#HOME-Utilities), I cannot allocate to this bucket. I think it may have to do with the # sign in front of the name. 2) When setting up a new account for the first time, it is unclear how to create new buckets. [No Thirst Software] Re: Meaning of reconciled transaction
One trouble I'm having with moneywell is keeping track of cash transactions. Importing credit card and bank statements makes sense and is an easy way to upload this information and just put it into buckets. What is difficult for me is keeping track of cash transactions. Say I have $40 and spend $27.25 - does this come out of my bank account? If so, it is off and not reconciled with my statement. Do I have to have a separate 'cash' account and keep track of what is in my wallet at all times??? (it changes often :S and I'm worried that it will be a lot of work to keep track of what is in my wallet) How do other users do it? Do you reconcile your bank statements AND what is in your wallet - treating your wallet as a separate 'bank account'? Some tips would be appreciated... Thanks, G. PS. Quick question. When I'm importing bank statements, it always seems to create a new account rather than go into the one I want it to? How do I merge bank accounts again?
