Apologies to Mr Korol - - - - I hadn't used reply all!

It appears not to.

Successfully logged in.

Not terribly useful though - - - - I wanted to edit what I had written trying
to make things easier to read and I needed to complete (one of those
incredibly useless) recaptcha gizmos which was not visible nor could
I find it.

So apologies for the poor formatting in the bug report.

[Nouveau] Bug system problems

2021-04-22 Thread o1bigtenor
Greetings

In the process of setting up an account at the https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/
location to file a bug I am not receiving any kind of confirmation email to
respond to.

What do I have to do to effect an account?

[Nouveau] solved one issue to find another behind it

2021-04-03 Thread o1bigtenor
Greetings

Running debian testing (11) on a 2 gpu system, 1. nvidia 1050 Ti
(GP107 - NV137) and 2. nvidia 570 (GF110 NVC8), driving 5 monitors (1
- 4k and 4 - 1920x1080).

Managed to get some firmware extracted from a proprietary driver and
thought that the 1 to 2 times per day reboot schedule would be behind
me - - - no such luck.

If anything the graphics system not coming out of hibernation is even
more severe than in the past. Following is the error in dmesg:

I can't really find anything that will tell me what the issue is nor
anything about how to fix.
Please?? Ideas/suggestions - - - -

TIA

(am unable to set up an account over at gitlab - - - I don't seem to
be able to get the confirmation email)

[Nouveau] Request for information and/or assistance

2021-03-03 Thread o1bigtenor
Greetings

Running debian testing, 2 nvidia gpus (GP107 and GF110) and 5 monitors
(1 - 3840x2160 and 2 1920x1080 on the GP107 and 2 - 1920x1080 on the
GF110) using one screen (7680x3000).

I would still like to modify some things but can't find any docs on
how to do that and my attempts have only made things worse and I can
function, even though some things are right awkward, on the system.
What I've run into is that my graphics system either refuses to come
out of hibernation or decides to come back on but in a locked state. I
then log into this machine from another on the network and do a reboot
for a 'graceful' restart (rather than use the kill button - - - the
hard shut off).

This event, graphics shutdown, is happening in direct relationship to
how much I have happening on the desktops of which I have lots.

In searching it seems that nouveau support for the GP107 is not yet
complete - - - - or that's what it seems like.

Is there someone out there who has some idea what the problem is?
(There are quite a number of different individuals mentioning this
issue in one of the bug reports.)

I would be happen to revise the nouveau pages on xrandr updating the
information from 1.3 to 1.5 and possibly some of the other pages as
well. I have no programming skills but I do have reasonable writing
skills - - - - would rather trade than to continue taking that 1/2
hour it takes to set my system up after each reboot - - - - taking an
hour or even 1.5 hours a day doing this is a huge drain on my
resources and would rather change this.

Please advise!

Doing some more research and found this:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v5.6/driver-api/edid.html

that with the two attachments

is there any way of getting an 'accurate' EDID so that I could 'install' it and
with that effect the use of my 3840x2160 'monitor'?

TIA

What is very interesting is that the article is talking about a 43" HiSens Roku
TV. At the beginning of my trouble shooting I called HiSense USA - - - found
out that the software is different from that on the model sold by HiSense
Canada. About 2/3rds of what is mentioned in the article - - - - well it just
ain't so. Might be worth plugging a ethernet cord into the thing and trying
to ssh into it to see what's hiding in the system - - - the software screen
does say opensource and mentions a number of common programs
including libc (and others).

H - - - - have found a pile of documents where EDID is shown
to be a very error prone 'standard'. The model year listed is only one of those
the companies documents indicate that the model was sold starting in 2019 and
that there are 3 HDMI 2.0b inputs.

It gets far more interesting!
I have 2 graphics cards:
card0 is an Nvidia 1050 Ti, card 1 is an Nvidia 570
there is only one HDMI port between the two cards (on card0) yet it is the HDMI
interface on card 1 that has the EDID information and reads as the port is
enabled. (Absolutely cannot enable the HDMI port on card0!!)
In my Xorg.0.log files I find a modeline that reads like:
[40.740] (II) modeset(G0): Supported detailed timing:
[40.740] (II) modeset(G0): clock: 297.0 MHz Image Size: 1872 x 1053 mm
[40.740] (II) modeset(G0): h_active: 3840 h_sync: 4016
h_sync_end 4104 h_blank_end 4400 h_border: 0
[40.740] (II) modeset(G0): v_active: 2160 v_sync: 2168
v_sync_end 2178 v_blanking: 2250 v_border: 0

which is somewhat similar to:

Preferred Video Timing if only Block 0 is parsed:
  DTD 1: 3840x2160 30.000 Hz 16:967.500 kHz 297.000 MHz
(1872 mm x 1053 mm)
 Hfront 176 Hsync 88 Hback 296 Hpol P
 Vfront8 Vsync 10 Vback 72 Vpol P

Native Video Timing if only Block 0 is parsed:
  DTD 1: 3840x2160 30.000 Hz 16:967.500 kHz 297.000 MHz
(1872 mm x 1053 mm)
 Hfront 176 Hsync 88 Hback 296 Hpol P
 Vfront8 Vsync 10 Vback 72 Vpol P

Preferred Video Timings if Block 0 and CTA-861 Blocks are parsed:
  DTD 1: 3840x2160 30.000 Hz 16:967.500 kHz 297.000 MHz
(1872 mm x 1053 mm)
 Hfront 176 Hsync 88 Hback 296 Hpol P
 Vfront8 Vsync 10 Vback 72 Vpol P
  VIC 95: 3840x2160 30.000 Hz 16:967.500 kHz 297.000 MHz
 Hfront 176 Hsync 88 Hback 296 Hpol P
 Vfront8 Vsync 10 Vback 72 Vpol P

Native Video Timing if Block 0 and CTA-861 Blocks are parsed:
  DTD 1: 3840x2160 30.000 Hz 16:967.500 kHz 297.000 MHz
(1872 mm x 1053 mm)
 Hfront 176 Hsync 88 Hback 296 Hpol P
 Vfront8 Vsync 10 Vback 72 Vpol P

which is was the hex dump written for HDMI-1-2 (listed as on the card that
has no HDMI ports) as the EDID.

I really don't understand how or why this are so garbled - - - but - - - -
they are. Would love to just have a usable monitor - - - - that doesn't look
like its going to happen though.

Suggestions?

Understand now - - - - but don't get why HDMI-1-2 is connected and
I can't get HDMI-1 to connect.

for the graphics card - - - -HDMI2.0b (native) is what's listed.

Unfortunately- - - - here - - - - a reboot means the use of about 30 minutes
in using xrandr to connect monitors 3 and 4 (even without the HDMI I'm
working on) and then setting up everything else on my system (only 20 desktops
and almost all of the them are loaded) so reboots are used as seldom as
possible.

I would love to 'pick a 30Hz mode-line' but there just aren't any!

In fact I have both kernel 5.5 and 5.10 on the machine. I reverted to using the
older kernel as with 5.10 it was maybe at worst a couple hours and at best
maybe a day when I would come to my machine and I just couldn't get it
to snap out of 'sleep' (AIUI) mode. Kernel 5.5 was a little better but the best
up time was still measured as less than a couple days - - very occasionally
somewhat longer - - then I had to log in from a different machine on the
network and get the m/c to reboot.

Dunno what's causing the problem there and as I use the machine all the
time for business - - - - well - - - - I wasn't prepared to spend an hour a
day setting the system back up the way I wanted it using xrandr and
starting the various other programs running.

Should I perhaps be filing a bug report?

Sorta got to have both GPUs in use - - - - there already 2 monitors running
on each of the GPUs - - - - I'm trying to add a 4K to the newer graphics
card. I've read reports of others where it was a do nothing on M$ yet here
in Linux land - - - - - well it just isn't working!

I've done some more looking and have found this:

$ xrandr --output HDMI-1-2 --mode 3840x2160_60.00  --verbose
xrandr: cannot find crtc for output HDMI-1-2

digging into this it seems something might be changed:

/sys/class/drm/card0/card0-HDMI-A-1/subsystem/ttm/power/async

reads as disabled - - - - so if I change that to 'enabled' is that going
to kick the card in the pants so it will output something?
(the monitor reads - 'weak or no signal' )

TIA

[Nouveau] Request for help in adding a HDMI output

2021-01-21 Thread o1bigtenor
Greetings

Running a debian testing system
$ uname -r
5.4.0-4-amd64
with 2 graphics cards.
The one I'm working on is a: GP 107 Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti

Asus ROG GeForce GX 1050 Ti Strix-GTX1050 Ti with 2 - DVI plus 1 DP1.4
and I HDMI2.0 ports (four in total).

I have been running 2 1920x1080 monitors on this card (and its
previous nvidia 570) for quite some time. Been running nouveau for the
last about 4 years as my last nvidia 570 (started with 3) is EOL by
nvidia.
Have gotten quite comfortable using xrandr setting up the second card
(the nvidia 570) and its 2 monitors. Nouveau software is:
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau -> 1:1.0.16-1 ;
xserver-xorg -> 1:7.7+21 ; and libdrm-nouveau2:amd64 -> 2.4.102-1 .

I want to add a 4k TV onto the HDMI port on card #1.
Can't seem to get the card and the TV talking.
Tried a number of things in xrandr:
