Re: [NTG-context] alternate end glyphs in MKIV

2009-10-06 Thread Wolfgang Schuster

Hi all,

I want to get alternate end glyphs. Am I going about it correctly?

I'm using the latext context minimals.

The following compiles fine using the context command, but
'illustrate'

ends with a normal e, not the e.end alternative.

\setmainfont[MEgalopolis Extra][features={mode=node,fina=yes}]

\setmainfont[MEgalopolis Extra][script=latin,terminalforms=yes]

You need the latest version because 'terminalforms' (fina) wasn't
available

in previous ones and the script option is also new (and required here).

Re: [NTG-context] Is it possible to put references format depending of mainlanguage? and other things

2009-10-06 Thread Taco Hoekwater
Hi,

Xan wrote:
For the small bits of text inside the reference list, you have to create
a copy of the relevant bibl-xxx file with the two-letter language code
attached to the name, edit that file to your liking, then do:

\setuppublications[alternative=apa-ca] % for example.

I refer to that. For not having apa-ca, apa-es, apa-fr, etc I think you
could rewrite bib module for having localization in automatic way. If
\mainlanguage = es, then number = número or something similar in TeX
way Sorry but I don't know TeX so much for doing that in my own. But I
think it's simply for you ;-)

There are two reasons why this is not done (yet?):

1. The microtypography of such textual labels is not the same in all
languages/countries: at least some require a change in the actual
ordering (prefix vs. postfix labels)

2. (and this is more important) Laziness from me. Not a good reason,
I know, but that's how it is.

That means it is probably a regression caused by the backend rewrite.

[NTG-context] MK II ( \mainlanguage[fr] \useencoding[ffr] )+ mpost

2009-10-06 Thread aubin
Hello,
I'm trying to compile a product of a complex structure (env +
project + product).
 - My useMPgraphics are included in a product using input
 - My environment starts with :
 enableregime[utf8]
 useencoding[ffr]
 mainlanguage[fr]
just before startenvironment (else the horizontal spacing are not ok
for my products, compiled as standalone documents)
As is, the metapost processing halts on
! Illegal suffix of declared variable will be flushed.
{
 l.149 path theshapemathortext {
 ;}{;}
If I comment out *only* mainlanguage[fr], metapost's processings are
OK but I have english labels (Content, Chapter...) instead of french
ones (obviously).
If I comment out *only* useencoding[ffr], metapost's processing
areOK but horizontal spacing for punctation are not OK (i.e. with
respect to french typographic standards).
My question is : how I can obtain french labels + french punctuation
SIMULTANEOUSLY ;)
 I use the up-to-date context/metapost from minimals... And I can't
use MK IV since I need t-vim...
(useencoding[ffr] is not known by MK IV as typeSTUFF from t-vim)

Just a remark. I didn't touch the Mac binaries for a long while (and
my mac is already resting in peace, so I cannot test).
Have any new binaries been released in the meantime?

I usually remove the --make switch (or it may be enough to call
--keep switch once?) to prevent remaking formats at any given time if
no updates are there. Is it possible that the make switch is turned
out on your computer as well?

(Sorry, but I really cannot test what's going on on mac, though it's a
bit strange that it behaves differently.)

 Hi all,

I want to get alternate end glyphs. Am I going about it correctly?

I'm using the latext context minimals.

The following compiles fine using the context command, but 'illustrate'
ends with a normal e, not the e.end alternative.

 \setmainfont[MEgalopolis Extra][features={mode=node,fina=yes}]

 \setmainfont[MEgalopolis Extra][script=latin,terminalforms=yes]

This gives me terminal forms, but too many of them. I've marked where
they appear in the following phrase.

Secret far service
 ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

It looks like they're substituted at the end of every word and
hyphenation point.

Is there any way to have the substitution occur at the end of sentences only?

You need the latest version because 'terminalforms' (fina) wasn't available
in previous ones and the script option is also new (and required here).

How do I find this sort of information? I found 'fina' by browsing
through context's otf related files, but grepping all of minimals for
'terminalforms' yields nothing.

Since it appears also in the following minimal example it's either
a bug in context or in the font itself.

\definefontfeature[fina][mode=node,script=latn,fina=yes]

you can find in font-ott.lua the following line:

 ['fina'] = 'Terminal Forms',

to use the feature with my module you need the long name as key, it
doesn't
matter wether you write 'Terminal Forms' (uppercase/lowercase with
spaces),
'terminal forms' (lowercase with spaces) or 'terminalforms' (lowercase
without
spaces) but i prefer the third alternative because it follows
context’s syntax.
