[NTG-context] Screen document design

2011-02-24 Thread Ian Lawrence
Morning all,

Quick question.

I want to design a screen document at 1024 by 768 pixels, so ideally work in
pixels as units, and not mm / cm.

I know pdfs are scalable and about \setuppapersize[S6][S6], but I'd prefer
to work in pixels (I have swfs / images to embed, and these come in x by y
pixels).

Anyone have an easy answer?

...nothing I have found in the selection of downloadable documentation or on
the wiki suggests that it is possible...

Thanks

Ian

\definepapersize[Screen][width=1024px,height=768px]
\setuppapersize[Screen][Screen]

You should check if it's ok, I'm not sure.

Re: [NTG-context] git repository in sync with minimals

2011-02-24 Thread Marco
  Is the git repository git://gitorious.org/context/context.git
  in sync with the minimals?

 It is but it is incomplete compared to the minimals and therefore may not
 be what you are looking for.

 Long answer: The repository is in sync with
 http://pragma-ade.nl/context/current/cont-tmf.zip (see
 http://gitorious.org/context/context/blobs/script/context_git_update.pl).
 However, the repository misses binaries, all extras and additional fonts
 that are available on http://minimals.contextgarden.net/.

Thanks

Thanks for taking the trouble for what was really simple, but seems
undocumented (?)
It does, and then all the offsets etc, seem to work in pixels as well.

eg.

\definelayer [topmatter] % name of the layer
[x= 0 px, y=20 px, % from upper left corner of paper
width=\paperwidth, height=\paperheight] % let the layer cover the full paper

[NTG-context] How to disable hyphenation?

[NTG-context] Float option “top” affects page break (on following pages)

2011-02-24 Thread Andreas Harder
Hi all,

consider the following example.

\starttext \showgrid
  Try to comment the \tex{placefigure} command, there will be 40 lines on the
second page. If you uncomment it again there are 41 lines!
  \placefigure[top,nonumber]{}{\externalfigure[dummy]}
  \page
  \dorecurse{30}{line \recurselevel\par} \blank[medium,small]
  \dostepwiserecurse{31}{50}{1}{line \recurselevel\par}
\stoptext

It's really a problem if compiling a component file which ends up with another
page breaking than the corresponding product file.

I hope there will be soon a fix for that … is there already one?

Regards
Andreas

There’s also bp (big points). We have the difference between TeX
points (pt) and PostScript points (bp) in ConTeXt like in every other
TeX:

1 pt = 1/72,27 in = 0,3515 mm (traditional American printer’s point)
1 bp = 1/72 in = 0,3528 mm (after the Anglo-Saxon compromise inch of
1959 = 25.4 mm)

(1 Didot point, traditionally used in Europe, was 0,376 mm)

It is of-course not only about genereren. So I choose your second option. I
have included:
\setuplanguage[nl][
  lefthyphenmin=5,
  righthyphenmin=4,
]
\language[nl]

But I found something peculiar happening. I think it is a bug, but maybe I
am wrong. Where genereren first was hypenated, it now gets put completly put
at the end of the sentence. If that is possible now, why was it not possible
beforehand?
In another paragraph I am using gedocumenteerd. First it was gedo-
cumenteerd, now it is gedocu- menteerd.
What is happening here?

What else did you expect after you told the system to leave at least five
characters to the left and four character to the right of a hypenatable word?

 If that is possible now, why was it not possible beforehand?

It was possible. But ConTeXt calculates the breakpoints (including possible
hypenation) so that the paragraphs look nice and the inter word space will not
be stretched too much.

Since a while ^, _ and can be used in text mode like any other character.

You can disable this with \donknuthmode at the begin of your document or
use the \aligntab where you would normally use but the best thing is
to use one of contexts build in table environment.

 I have a Dutch document where I use the word genereren. Because it is on the
 end of the line ge- is put on the end and nereren is put on the beginning of
 the next line. I find this quit ugly. Can I disable hyphenation, or let it
 behave more 'beautiful'? I searched on ContextGarden, but did not find
 anything.

 \hyphenation{genereren} or \hyphenation{gene-re-ren} or

\startexceptions[du]
gene-re-ren
\stopexceptions

or

\startexceptions
gene-re-ren
\stopexceptions

Re: [NTG-context] Question regarding registertempfile

Can you remove the first line of this function? (That is, do not modify the
name at all). This will allow me to use this functionality to remove
temporary files created by t-filter and t-vim. These files, do not end in
.mkiv-tmp or .tmp.

why not ?

Because mtxrun --ifchanged generates a .md5 file. It is easier to change
the behaviour of registertempfile than changing the behaviour of mtxrun
--ifchanged.

Re: [NTG-context] Float option “top” affects page break (on following pages)

2011-02-24 Thread Andreas Harder

 Hi all,

 consider the following example.

 \starttext \showgrid
  Try to comment the \tex{placefigure} command, there will be 40 lines on the
 second page. If you uncomment it again there are 41 lines!
  \placefigure[top,nonumber]{}{\externalfigure[dummy]}
  \page
  \dorecurse{30}{line \recurselevel\par} \blank[medium,small]
  \dostepwiserecurse{31}{50}{1}{line \recurselevel\par}
 \stoptext

 It's really a problem if compiling a component file which ends up with
 another page breaking than the corresponding product file.

 I hope there will be soon a fix for that … is there already one?

I found a workaround. One can set
\setupinterlinespace[top=0]

Is this a bad idea? Are there any disadvantages? I would appreciate some
explanations.

Greeting
Andreas

[NTG-context] inmargin problem in mkiv with luatex when specified with stack

2011-02-24 Thread Dinh Tran
Hello,

Running the following context code doesn't seem to work with context
--luatex. Works with context --xetex however.

\setuplayout[backspace=5cm,margin=3cm,margindistance=.5cm,width=middle]
\setupinmargin[stack=yes]

\starttext

A\margintext{A} B\margintext{B}.

C\inmargin{C} D\inmargin{D}.

\stoptext

I get the following error:

[NTG-context] \placefigure and \em (again)

2011-02-24 Thread Procházka Lukáš Ing . - Pontex s . r . o .

Hello,

sorry for repeating this topic, maybe it's not too attractive.

Please, have a look to the following problem.

I wonder why the behaviour described bellow occurs and how to typeset a paragraph
starting with some text enclosed into {\em ...} group inside the free area
formed (affected) by \placefigure.

---

\starttext
  \placefigure
[left,none]
{}
{ \startMPcode
draw (0,0)--(6cm,6cm);
  \stopMPcode
}

  This is a normal text -- it flows around the picture on the left side of the
page as expected.

  {\em This empathized text starting a new paragraph} should not scratch the
picture left.

  When some text contains {\em an empathized text inside the paragraph}, text
flows normally as expected.

  \input tufte
\stoptext

---

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Lukas
