[NTG-context] sources of http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/style.pdf

2011-06-16 Thread Alexandre Krispin
Hello,

I am a beginner with Context, and would like to know if there is a way to
get the sources of the following document :
http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/style.pdf

I am trying to adapt the style I use with Latex (that is to say :
http://mirrors.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/classicthesis/ClassicThesis.pdf),
and this document has some features which might be useful for it. Moreover I
don't know how to make the command width=66\averagecharacterwidth work, if I
see the sources I may be successful in trying to make it work.

Sincerely

Re: [NTG-context] PDF Viewer Navigation Tree

 Hey folks,

 I'm not sure where to be looking, as this may well be a feature already
 implemented in ConTeXt or its lower level dependencies. I couldn't find
 anything in the mailing archives, nor in the reference manual or wiki.

 In my PDF viewer Evince, I have a navigation tree in the side bar that
 allows me quick access to various parts of some PDF documents. When I
 was using Texinfo, this was generated automatically for each @chapter /
 @section / @subsection / etc when the PDF was being written out. I
 noticed this doesn't appear to happen automatically with ConTeXt.

 How does one go about doing the same in ConTeXt?

Try \setupinteraction[state=start].

Hi

Using math with dejavu as the bodyfont produces:
! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set.

minimal example:

\stoptext

Installing the xits-math (https://github.com/khaledhosny/xits-math/) solves the
problem.
Shouldn't there be a fallback to lmmath or similar?

xits is part of the minimals

\setupbodyfont[dejavu]

will load the predefined dejavu rm/ss/tt/mm combination and one can
define another one if needed (just copy the 6 lines and replace the mm one)

making a complex fallback mechanism is not worth the trouble

 xits is part of the minimals

It is certainly on contextgarden:
http://minimals.contextgarden.net/current/fonts/extra/xits/fonts/opentype/public/xits/

But I don't think it comes with the minimals.

I just did a fresh minimals setup and it gives me the same:
! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set.

along with lines like:
fontsdefining forced type otf of xits-math not found

I also can't find the otf files in the minimals setup (bin, tex).
I hope it's not just me ...

Re: [NTG-context] Placing figures flush right and captions in the margin

Am 15.06.2011 um 10:17 schrieb Hans Hagen:

Did you check the details.pdf manualal?

This won’t help because it’s ConTeXt’s fault.

This is a quick fix for strc-flt.mkiv but the leftmargin etc. keys are
then ignored when the caption is placed in the margin.

%\def\locatefloatbox
%  {\alignstrutmode\zerocount
%   \shiftalignedline
% {\floatparameter\c!leftmargin }{\floatparameter\c!rightmargin}%
% {\floatparameter\c!innermargin}{\floatparameter\c!outermargin}%
%   \alignedline{\floatparameter\c!location}\v!middle}

\def\locatefloatbox
   {\alignstrutmode\zerocount

\doifnotcommon{\floatcaptionparameter\c!location}{\v!outermargin,\v!innermargin,\v!leftmargin,\v!rightmargin}
  {\shiftalignedline
 {\floatparameter\c!leftmargin }{\floatparameter\c!rightmargin}%
 {\floatparameter\c!innermargin}{\floatparameter\c!outermargin}}%
\alignedline{\floatparameter\c!location}\v!middle}

Your solution doesn't seems to work, I still don't see a caption
anywhere when using location=rightmargin. When I inserted your fix I
stumbled upon the fact that there is \def\locatebcaptionbox below
\def\locatefloatbox. You provided a fix for \locatefloatbox, but
shouldn't it be for \locatecaptionbox? I have no clues about the
internals of ConTeXt, but I tried the following:

\def\locatecaptionbox
   {\alignstrutmode\zerocount

\doifnotcommon{\floatcaptionparameter\c!location}{\v!outermargin,\v!innermargin,\v!leftmargin,\v!rightmargin}
  {\shiftalignedline
 {\floatcaptionparameter\c!leftmargin
}{\floatcaptionparameter\c!rightmargin}%

{\floatcaptionparameter\c!innermargin}{\floatcaptionparameter\c!outermargin}}%
\alignedline{\floatparameter\c!location}\v!middle}

Note that I just translated your fix to \locatecaptionbox. At least it
didn't throw an error!

The reason why the caption disappears is that you put it
in \everyrightofalignedline and the content is replaced with
the rightmargin skip in the \shiftalignedline command.

Wolfgang

My attempt at understanding that explanation: The caption is placed to
the right of aligned line (because it is supposed to got into the
margin?), and for all things that are placed that way,
\everyrightofalignedline is called. And that macro replaces the caption
with a skip, but should instead skip across the margin skip and then
place the caption?

Regards

Christoph

I'll try to do a more strict zip then.

In that case I don't understand how I can place a caption in the margin.
Should the MWE I included in my first post work now, or not?

Hans included the patch in the core, update your installation in this will work:

\setuplayout
  [width=11cm,
   rightmargin=6cm]

\setupcaption
  [figure]
  [width=\rightmarginwidth,
   location={rightmargin,high}]

\starttext
\placefigure{\input ward }{\externalfigure[cow]}
\stoptext

You can control the vertical position of the caption with the three values
“high”, “low” and “middle” for the location key.

Thank you very much!

The importance of explicitly setting the caption width was not obvious
to me.

Those sources are not public, at least not now. Also, the document is
partially updated (and moved to mkiv) and I need to pick up that thread.

The \averagecharacterwidth code sits in lang-frk.mkiv (mkii) but I must
admit that it is an experiment that needs an update.

(If you need it I can make a proper mkiv version.)
