In TV-broadcasts there are usually two kinds of subtitles present: Teletext as characters and DVB as pixels. These can be extracted and rendered with Metapost. I have done this, but I am not very satisfied with the colors produced. On the television screen they look bright, when rendered in Metapost they are dull and muddy. The text is barely readable. As I am fairly sure I did extract the correct bits from the CLUT contained in the stream, I wonder if I am doing something not right at the Metapost side. In the datastream the values given are the most significant 6, 4, 4 and 2 bits of respectively Y, Cr, Cb, T. These are scaled to the values given to Metapost by dividing them by 255. In the zip one finds the program (ConTeXt MKIV) used for typesetting, an example pixel map with clut, and the output. [NTG-context] modules in minimals (important)
Hello, Hans has changed the command line parameter for modules (--modules=vim should work now). The problem is that he now stores the chosen modules to a variable modules as opposed to extras. So if you want to keep your modules, please edit status-of-update.lua and replace [extras] with [modules]. Or simply install the modules again. Dear Raymond, please do not blindly reply to some message when you want to create a new message. Despite editing the subject line the mail client sets some fields in the message header so that the message is displayed as a reply never the less and threading using those fields is messed up. Your method seems to result from using Web clients where it is not easy to just click on an address to compose a new one and to save oneself typing the address into the field. Since you are using Apple Mail you can just click an the ConTeXt email address in any message to compose a new message. [NTG-context] Working with graphics
I am using graphics in my PDF document. First I used something like this:
\midaligned{\externalfigure[graphics/priceList][width=1\textwidth]}
Initially this worked good enough. But now I have both little pictures and
pictures that are large in the y-direction. At this moment I change the
width parameter manually. But I would like something like the following:
- A picture is not stretched more as a certain value. (Say two.)
- A picture is never to wide.
- A picture is never to high to fill more as 75% of a page.
Is this something that is possible?
Also: is it a good idea to use \useexternalfigure, or is this only necessary
when a picture is used more as once.

At the moment it is not very important, but my other question remembered me about an old situation. I do not use graphics a lot in my ConTeXt files. But some time ago I used several pictures with a very high resolution. This made the resulting PDF very big. I did not expect the PDF printed on a printer with a higher resolution as 1200 DPI. Is there a way to have the included graphics not be bigger as necessary (without changing the original pictures)? Again, at the moment it is not urgent. But when I come in the same situation again, it would be nice if the resulting PDF was not five times as big as necessary. You can plugin in a converter. However, it only works for one to anothe
format so you need to patch a line in grph-inc.lua:

Well, not 'need' but it would make sense of course to use that info, for
instance to set the depth or resolution but I wasn't in the mood for
studying the man pages (and I always forget the command line arguments),
so I leave that 'as an exercise for the reader'.

Been away for a while. Currently using luatex for lightly
formatted documents. But I want to use Context for my next
job (lots of formatting). How do I incorporate luatex and
the fonts found by luatex in my Context file?
And should I use MKII or MKIV?

What i learnt from you past mails is that you always use many macros from files which are written for plain TeX instead of ConTeXt’s own mechanism. [NTG-context] Columns and figures in MKIV
I am trying to upgrade an existing document from using texexec and
pdftex to context and luatex. Unfortunately, the document relies pretty
heavily on columns (using \startcolumns[n=2,tolerant=verytolerant]) and
the idea that figures that are too wide to place in a column float to
the top of the next page.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case with the current
minimals. The following example works fine for texexec (even if I
comment out the \startpostponing \stoppostponing code). The figure is
placed (centered) at the top of page 2. With MKIV, however, the figure
stays in the first column and bleeds over into the second column (the
postponing code does change it to the next page, but it doesn't force it
out of the column).

I am using the Context minimal distribution (on Linux) and context
reports that the current version as:

It is quite likely that I am simply doing this wrong, but I have read:

and it appears to support what I am trying to do. I have experimented a
bit with columnsets, but they appear to be overkill for my use. Then
again, I am probably doing it wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

mkiv uses luatex
Best solution is the minimals.
My luatex books are basically pdftex files with a few statements to get at
fonts not included with TeX, e.g.,
