Hi Aditya,

many thanks for your detailed explanation at TeX.SE.

It seems that \showfontstrip is the way to go. It won’t be easy to
explain to newcomers, but I have to try.

I agree with Thomas that Porson shouldn’t be scaled. But this is mainly
because the font is totally different from other typefaces with Latin
glyphs (such as Palatino or Times).

Hans is right that glyph boldness is to be taken in consideration when
scaling a typeface. In my personal case, what bothers me most is the
different x-height between typefaces. Glyph boldness when scaling is
changed, but I’d say that it isn’t as obvious as different x-height.

rscale=auto would only be a value for an option, not even the default.
Of course, it wouldn’t be mandatory. This would not prevent from scaling
manually (or not scaling at all). But it would make things much easier
when trying to calculate the same x-heights.

Many thanks for your help,

Pablo

i think that there's more wrong with the font and it doesn't look like
it gets updated so don't bother ... i have no time (or motivation) to
look into what realy goes on in the font (too large for convenient
peeking into, these fonts) and the extra check seems to work .. it might
even be no bug but valid for these huge fonts in which case it's a 'lack
of feature' on our end

there are more fonts that need this treatment (normally they have
sensible names for glyphs and I only checked those with names)

Hi Massimiliano,

according to tex/texmf-context/tex/context/interface/mkiv/i-context.pdf,
both inherit from \setupparagraph. I’d say that these are equivalent.

And strc-tag.mkiv includes the following code:

  \let\startpar\startparagraph
  \let\stoppar \stopparagraph

So, they are equivalent.

I hope it helps,

now, you can use ttx to have an unrelated view of the same font
and then you can find the answer .

In the pdf e.g. the first glyph has the numbers 2D0E, 2D0F, 2D0D in

<2D0D> <5203>.

What can one do to get a mapping also for the other glyphs?

wait till i update ...

these glyphs have no names so i need to add them to the to-be-checked
list (which does consult substitutions etc already)

[NTG-context] startpar and startparagraph

2018-09-27 Thread mf

What is the difference between \startpar and \startparagraph?

Are these two equivalent?

Blah blah blah.\par

\startpar Blah blah blah.\stoppar

Is \startpar ... \stoppar only more XML-like and TaggedPDF oriented?

Thanks in advance,

One can see how the glyphs are replaced under locl:

lookup 's_s_42': replacing U+5203 by single U+F0608

but I can find nothing about tounicode/cmap or something like that.

Yes, h2o books is down. Just try the index page ;)

Hopefully, I’ll have a new site up by the weekend. The drupal we
were running does not like php7 at all, so I am switching to
wordpress, which is a bit of an adjustment...
