Thanks a lot - but I guess I'll stick with MkII and pdfetex. I can't
see any advantages of using luatex myself now - I neither use OpenType
fonts nor advanced macro programming. I guess I'll wait for a
production release and switch to MkIV when it's the official version.
(And I really don't know what advantages in terms of XML I would get...)

[NTG-context] t-tikz: problem with colorspace pgfprgb

2008-03-02 Thread Finn Martensen
Hi,

I have the following problem with TikZ: When I use the patterns
library in a tikzpicture environment, the file is compiled without
problems and creates a PDF file. However, Acrobat displays an error
message Could not find the ColorSpace named 'pgfprgb'. So the
patterns library seems to be a sufficient condition for this problem
to occur. By contrast, the problem does not occur when I use pdflatex
to create PDF from a LaTeX file with the same tikz-code.

I have a standalone ConTeXt distribution and tikz 2.00, but I already
had this problem with tikz 1.18.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Finn Martensen

I created the table as suggested above and in the file names.tma appears a
 line line like:

   [caliban]={ ttf, Caliban, Caliban.ttf,  false },

 I thought one might use

 \font\test=caliban at 12pt

 but this fails:

Font \test=caliban at 12pt not loadable: metric data not found or bad.

weird, smells like a bug (i need to look into it)

It is not always easier to write a conversion from XML to TeX, I have a
module with delimited arguments and it was easy to transform the XMl
code to TeX but this is very difficult for me to do this with MkIV code.

The old conversion methos requires for simple commands also less lines
than the new method.

The real advandtage for me is to avoid dozen of \defineXMLsave commands
with the new XML setups and option to access data from the tree without
the need to save the whole file in TeX macros (\saveXMLdatainelement).

Re: [NTG-context] Using Postscript Type 1 fonts in ConTeXt/XeTeX?

2008-03-02 Thread Jérome Laurens

Le 1 mars 08 à 13:19, Roland a écrit :

Seems we never posted the conclusion about this problem: XeTeX simply
doesn't work with the old Mac Type 1 Postscript fonts on Mac OS X
(Leopard or before). The reason is that these old fonts store their
data in the resource fork, which Unix utilities like XeTeX don't see.
Only TrueType or OpenType fonts will be recognised and loaded
 correctly.

PCs don't have the data fork so old Type 1 Postscript fonts for PCs
(with .pfb extension) seem to work. Just copying these to the Mac is
no solution, however, because Mac OS X does not support PC-style Type
1 fonts (only the Mac ones with the data in the resource fork), and
therefore XeTeX will not find these fonts.

Therefore the preferred solution is to use fonts of TrueType or
OpenType varieties. For those with access to a font conversion program
like fondu (?) fontforge (?) or fontlab (?) it may be possible to
convert the old Type 1 font to TrueType or OpenType, reinstall it and
have XeTeX work with it in that way.

There is a command line utility called fondu
to convert fonts between mac format and various other ones.
It is available as an i-installer package, and somewhere else...

It just discovered that it depends, e.g., on whether there is only one
page with a tikzpicture or more pages with tikzpictures. To give code
examples: the first works, but not the second

**
Code with no problems:
**
\usemodule[tikz]
\usetikzlibrary[patterns]
\starttext
\starttikzpicture
\fill[pattern=dots] (0,0) -- (0,1) -- (1,1) -- (1,0);

\usetikzlibrary[patterns]

\starttikzpicture
\draw (0,0) -- (1,0);
\stoptikzpicture
\page
\starttikzpicture
\fill[pattern=dots] (0,0) -- (0,1) -- (1,1) -- (1,0);

I uploaded a beta release. The biggest change is that image inclusion in
mkiv has changed. Currently it's still some mix of tex and lua code, and

first step towards lua doing things. This will only work with a e recent
 luatex.

The advantage is that file searching in lua is more robust (and when
many search paths are used, also faster). Image conversion has been
moved to lua too, but currently still uses pdftops (also for svg) but
that may move to lua as well. Figure libraries are supported by default
 now.

 this is good news. :)

the bad news is, that figure libraries are currently broken in mkiv
(beta from 29.2). i'll make a minimal example.

ok; btw, don't load fig library modules!, it's supposed to work by
default; loaded libraries probably spoil the game
