I wonder if that’s the same Spottie we saw on last year’s Brooklyn CBC? Same
location.

The highlights from Gulling at multiple sites in Brooklyn and Queens include.

Black-legged Kittiwake (1) adult seen in a massive flock of Gulls just off Riis
Park in Queens, That flock also produced 1 Iceland and 2 Lesser Black-backed
Gulls.

2 Banded Herring Gulls and 1 banded Ring-billed Gull. Both of the banded
Herring Gulls are from the Apploedore Island banding program.

At Bush Army Terminal Park in Brooklyn, I locked onto a late Spotted Sandpiper;
very likely the same one I observed on October 28th. CBC folks will want to
keep tabs on this one for their count as it is hanging around.

[nysbirds-l] cupsogue beach - westhampton

2017-11-25 Thread leormand .
A high noon walk down Cupsogue beach turned up a piping plover loosely
associating with a flock of Sanderlings. There was also a semi-palmated
plover with this group. Two loon flyovers between ocean and beach was the
only other thing of interest.

[nysbirds-l] Bald Eagle(s), Nassau & Suffolk

2017-11-25 Thread GQ
An adult Bald Eagle was sitting at the top of a dead tree throughout my son’s
soccer practice this morning at the Northport Soccer Park. It was being mobbed
continuously by a half dozen crows.
One of the local Common Ravens was also around the adjacent National Grid
stacks earlier in the morning.

I saw another adult Bald Eagle on Thanksgiving day, slowly circling over
Manhasset Bay in Port Washington.

[nysbirds-l] Flyby Swans, FBF

2017-11-25 Thread zach schwartz-weinstein
I’m at Floyd Bennett and just had three swans flying over the aviation
sports complex. I was only able to get them in my binoculars for a second
before I lost them behind the building, but the bills
Seemed dark and shaped more like a Trumpeter or Tundra than a Mute. I ran
around the building but they had disappeared. They might have landed near
the Gateway Marina. (They also may well have been mute Swans seen poorly,
but this wasn’t my impression.

[nysbirds-l] Queens Western Tanager - Yes

2017-11-25 Thread Corey Finger
A bit west of where it had been seen recently. If you leave the APEC parking
lot and walk east along Northern Blvd, over the bridge, and immediately turn
onto the trail it was about 100 yards along, on the right, just after the
steep, muddy hill.

Good Birding,
Corey Finger

[nysbirds-l] Jones Beach Seawatch

2017-11-25 Thread Timothy Healy
Very strong gannet flight this morning with upwards of 1000 birds observed.
There are currently huge feeding flocks to the west, most likely spectacularly
visible from the Long Beach area. A Parasitic Jaeger flew west past the jetty
at around 7:35. Sea duck numbers were low, with small flocks of all 3 scooters
and singles of Common Eider and Long-tailed Duck.

Cheers!
