While trying to refind the Connecticut warbler seen today at Hoyt Farm in Commack I stumbled upon a yellow breasted chat by the back fields. > On Sep 29, 2020, at 12:10 PM, Richard Gostic wrote: > > > Bob McGrath and I had a Connecticut Warbler at Hoyt Farm Park in Commack > this morning. [nysbirds-l] Connecticut Warbler
Bob McGrath and I had a Connecticut Warbler at Hoyt Farm Park in Commack this morning. We discovered the bird in a patch of mugwort and goldenrod when it responded to a chip call and flew across the path. We got a clear look at the brownish hood, complete eye ring and yellowish underparts. The bird showed itself several more times in response to pishing providing what can be considered lengthy looks of 10 - 20 seconds before flitting off into the brush. Also at this location we found Yellowthroat, Tennessee, Magnolia, Black and White, Yellow-rumped, and Chestnut-sided warblers. [nysbirds-l] Stone Bridge Nighthawk Watch
September 28th - 57 nighthawks, 87 minutes; Current Season Total ( 2076 nighthawks, 3509 minutes, .591 bpm) The highlight, and underscoring how each day is different, were the the eight nighthawks we watched (beginning at 6:41 p.m. and lasting for 14 minutes, until 6:55 p.m.) feeding over the north pond, serving as our grand finale! It was a great show. John T. Stone Bridge Nighthawk Watch Directions: Long Island Expressway to Nicolls Road (Exit 62). Take Nicolls Road north to the end where it intersects State Route 25A. Make a right heading east on 25A. Make left at first light onto Main Street. Take this north to end where it forms a t-intersection. Look to left and you'll see the stone bridge crossing over water. Make a right and immediately find a parking space on the road across from or near the old Setauket Post Office. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME.htm http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES.htm http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birding.aba.org/maillist/NY01 Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
