[okular] [Bug 444168] zooming wrong

2021-11-15 Thread Amnon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444168

Update (good news):

While sitting at a cafe (just now) I noticed, for the first time since the
trouble began, that my computer (DELL XPS 13-9310) screen is not fully used,
and that there are blank margins at top and at bottom (about 5 mm each).
Evidently the screen resolution was misconfigured.

Most likely by the connection of the digital projector (as I reported
originally on 2021-10-22 11:47:11 IDT ).

I did not notice this issue when working at home...

Anyhow, I went to the computer display menu and selected 1920x1200 (instead of
1920x1080) resolution.

This both solved the empty space on the screen, and the OKULAR zoom issue !!!
See screenshots.

Lesson (at least for me): Keep eyes open to possibilties, and don't get
impatient.

2021-11-13 Thread Amnon

It seems very difficult (for me, on my computer) to have the latest version of
OKULAR installed alongside any working version of KILE.

I have no idea who is to blaim (and as a user it does not really matter to
me...).

Thus I am experimanting with TEXSTUDIO and its built-in pdf viewer.

It would be very nice (for users, e.g. mathematicains like myself) to have a
working, updated, fixed combination of KILE + OKULAR.

And that OKULAR will also print pdfs in correct maginification on HP laser
ptinters. (Now I must use EVINCE for that.) I there was a bug or request filed
a few years ago, but can't find it today. But the problem still persists (I
just tested it).

The official KUBUNTU version offered is
  okular (4:19.12.3-2ubuntu1) focal
and that does not look new at all.

But the snap repository is not there yet either -- they offer

Any idea when SNAP will have the new fixed version?

I just added a second user on my kubuntu machine. (For an altogether different
purpose.)

Running OKULAR from the new user seems to be free of this zooming issue.

This perhaps means that some settings file associated to the main user got
corrupted. Possibly due to the use of an external digital projector a few days
ago.

SUMMARY

As of a few days ago the zoom selection on OKULAR on my notebook is somehow
broken. To get the normal size on my pdf's -- what used to be 110% until about
last week -- now equires 240%.

See attached screenshot.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open pdf file
2. try to find good zoom value
3. 240% instead of 110%

Here is my request and explanation: I am working on a long latex project (many
months). The best zoom for me is 135%.

When running PDFLaTeX (via KILE) the resolution on okular often changes
(inconsistantly). I need to go to the zoom window and manually enter 135.

It would be a big improvement if:
(1) There is a user-selected default zoom (e.g. 135%).
(2) This default value would be a single button click.
(3) The resolution of the pdf won't jump after recompiling the latex source.
(4) Persistent zoom level (sticky?).

As of the latest version:
  KUBUNTU 18.04
  OKULAR 1.3.3
that I installed a few says ago, OKULAR ignores the system-wide printer default
"long side duplex", and offers "none" as the default.

This causes frequent wasteful printing!

(In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #1)
Workaround: Set all printer margins to 0.0 in Printer Properties.

Sorry, but that does seem to help at all.

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 351408] New: printing BROKEN - pdf files from publishers

2015-08-17 Thread Amnon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351408

Bug ID: 351408
Summary: printing BROKEN - pdf files from publishers
   Product: okular
   Version: 0.21.3
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
   URL: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jpayfb1nry6splq/AACx-zkirmZ
zo5gZ1-e0aGJda?dl=0
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: printing
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: amye...@gmail.com

There is a problem when printing PDF files generated by commercial publishers,
from Okular to either a laser printer (HP 1536) or CUPS-pdf.

Okular gets the wrong page size (too much magnification) and the wrong
centering, resulting in a real mess. See file paper2-okular.pdf in the link
above - compared to paper2-evince.pdf, which is the correct output.

Reproducible: Always

Okular has a problem printing PDF files that were generated on my computer
(pdflatex on linux). This same problem happens when printing to a laser printer
(HP 1536) and to CUPS-pdf.

What happens is this: Okular prints a correct image, except that it is scaled
down (shrunk) by about 10% or 15%.

See examples at link above: compare the output paper3-okular.pdf (too small) to
paper3-evince.pdf and paper3-AdobeReader proper size).

Reproducible: Always

I tried some more samples. There appear to be two distinct problems, and these
probably coexisted for some time. It is possible that nothing changed
yesterday...

1) PDF files from commercial publishers. Here okular gets the size wrong (too
much magnification) and the centering, resulting in a real mess. See file
paper2-okular.pdf, compared to paper2-evince.pdf.

2) PDF files gennerated on my computer (pdflatex on linux). Here okular prints
a correct image, except that it is scaled down (shrunk) by about 10%. Compare
paper3-okular.pdf to paper3-evince.pdf.

As far as I recall, I fiddled with the menu options in okular | print, and
printed using evince.

Hi.

For a few weeks now, Okular prints pdfs with slightly wrong scaling (as
compared to Evince and Acrobat).

Today I got a new, worse behavior: pages are enlarged and thus cropped. See
sample pictures at
  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jpayfb1nry6splq/AACx-zkirmZzo5gZ1-e0aGJda?dl=0

The file good-output was printed via okular, and the result is bad-output,
which is bad.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. print pdf file to printer (either local HP printer or virtual CUPS-pdf).
2. look at output.
3.
