Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Copy marc record
I'm experimenting with Evergreen 2.0 alpha, and the way I've found to do this is: Edit the record you want to copy Select Flat Text Editor Select the entire text with the mouse or Ctrl-A Copy it with Ctrl-C Create a new MARC record, and in Flat Text Editor, Ctrl-A to select everything and then Shift-Insert to paste the original record. -- Paul Johnson South West Wales Higher Education Partnership Swansea University, UK -Original Message- From: open-ils-general-boun...@list.georgialibraries.org on behalf of James Wagner Sent: Thu 04/11/2010 17:26 To: open-ils-general@list.georgialibraries.org Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Copy marc record In Evergreen, is it possible to take an existing marc record, copy it, and modify it, to become a new marc record for a slightly different item? Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Circulation and cataloguing questions
Thanks for raising this question - I've also been asked to look into this as a number of our branches have long term loan policies for staff clients. As some of the items are on really long term loan (multiple renewals), they haven't been showing up in the pull list because the items haven't been checked in. It would be nice if the pull list had an optional feature (say, something like include holds for potential recalls) so that you could see all holds and then optionally target some still on loan for recall. This probably won't be useful for those libraries with strict circulation rules, but for those like ours where we have lots of items on extended loans, it would be good to have. So potential recalls might be those items on loan that have been renewed more than so many times, or are on some kind of extended loan. And thanks to Deanna for pointing out the docuwiki link..Timely link as I was going to look at the SQL approach next week. Also, if you are overlaying a record, MARC editor for overlay will open a new tab and refresh the record in that tab after you save it. Your original record should still be open in another tab. Click on it and reset the display to see the new record. Then follow Kathryn's instructions to get back to your search results. [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Serials in alpha4
Hi all, I've been digging into serials on a 2.0 alpha4 installation by following the notes at http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=acq:serials:release_notes:initial_t runk_merge, but I've run into various stumbling blocks and can't get to the point where I can successfully receive an issue. I'm not sure if I'm doing things incorrectly, if the problems I've run across are for areas that are still being worked on, or if they are bugs I should be submitting. I have created templates using the copy templates editor, but when I create a distribution, this template is not populating the template dropdown menus. After I save the distribution, I can go into the database to associate the distrubtion with my template, but I'm wondering if anyone has had success identifying the template in the UI. Also, nothing appears in the dropdown menus for call numbers, and I'm not sure how to add one. Once I create the distribution, I can successfully create a caption/pattern and the first issuance using the sample pattern codes and holdings code provided in the notes. When I make predictions for the subscription, I receive a message similar to the one in the attached image on each item for which I am creating a prediction. However, despite these popup boxes, the system does create the issuances after completing this process. I then head over to the items tab for the record, click on one of the items, and then click the receive button to try to receive an issue. The system returns an error message and is unable to receive the item. I suspect some of the problems I came across earlier in the process may be responsible for the fact that I can't receive an issue. Has anyone successfully received an item in serials? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Stuck with 2.0 alpha4 Staff Client importing 852 Item Information
Hi all trying to MARC Batch Import / Export import a single record + attached holding [3] that used to import fine in EG 1.6 and stuck: the 852 item information keeps being ignored: - because we changed the Org Units Structure [2] I went back to a fresh alpha4 Virtual Image and tried the usual 852 $bBR1 etc.: no result - given the changed Org Units Structure I tried an import with $bBR2 'cause that branch still hangs around: no result - blush: a few hours I learned from this list (Dan Scott answers) that in 2.0 we now have an Edit Import Item Attributes: very welcome tool, noticed the attribute Keep being False and made that True (see [1] for the Item Attributes), started new staff client session: still no result I now have the feeling I miss some finer point in 2.0 that wasn't there in the more blunt 1.6: any pointers ? [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] ***SPAM*** Floating collections
On Evergreen's 2.0 feature list (http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=feature_list_2_0), the following is listed under "Acquisitions": The system supports shared and floating items by collection. Bibliographic records can be added or removed from the collection group and can be updated in batch via buckets in the copy edit interface. Is this referring to "floating collections" functionality where designated items in a multi-branch system stay where they land (when returned)?

The indomitable Dan Scott added Open-ILS/src/extras/import/marc2sre.pl a while back for the purpose of priming MFHD records. It requires that you have the internal ID of your Evergreen bib records embedded in the MFHD records that link to said. Beyond that restriction, you simply point it at your MFHD MARC and it will generate a file full of 'sre' records suitable for loading with pg_loader, just like 'bre' and 'are' records. -- Mike Rylander | VP, Research and Design | Equinox Software, Inc. / The Evergreen Experts | phone: 1-877-OPEN-ILS (673-6457) | email: mi...@esilibrary.com | web: http://www.esilibrary.com Tim Spindler Manager of Library Applications tspind...@cwmars.org 508-755-3323 x20 C/W MARS, Inc. http://www.cwmars.org On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 1:24 PM, Repke de Vries re...@xs4all.nl wrote: Dear Kathy here at IISH ( http://www.iisg.nl) a team of testers has been sinking its teeth in alpha4 Serials Management as well - even without the help of the release notes you are mentioning: thanks for the pointer !! This probably won't be useful for those libraries with strict circulation rules, but for those like ours where we have lots of items on extended loans, it would be good to have. So potential recalls might be those items on loan that have been renewed more than so many times, or are on some kind of extended loan. On the subject of recalls... I just spent two days with Art Rhyno, Robin Isard, and Rick Scott working on automated recalls for scenarios like this, based on the requirements raised and agreed upon by the circulation staff at the University of Windsor, Algoma University, and Laurentian University. I committed the results of our efforts today into Evergreen trunk as http://svn.open-ils.org/trac/ILS/changeset/18630 - in a nutshell, the result is that if a library sets a few configuration settings, then the act of placing a hold (by any patron) on a title that has copies out for extended loan will pick one of those copies and automatically shorten the loan period and notify the person who currently has that item that they now have an earlier return date. It also sets the remaining renewals to 0 and optionally applies a different set of fine rules. If there are any items available for targeting, this code is not invoked. If the pertinent settings are unset, this code will not be invoked. But once the settings are in place, any user can invoke the recall simply by placing a hold - assuming that the loan period for the desired item is greater than the recall threshold interval. This is only in trunk, not in 2.0, as there are undoubtedly still a few bugs to work out, but the commit message provides more details on how this operates: Initial support for recall of items triggered by placing a hold In academic libraries, it is common for groups like faculty and graduate students to have extended loan periods (for example, 120 days), while others have more common loan periods such as 3 weeks. In these environments, it is desirable to have a hold placed on an item that has been loaned out for an extended period to trigger a recall: truncating the loan period, setting available renewals to 0, optionally changing the fines associated with overdues for the new due date, and notifying the current patron of the recall. New actor.org_unit_setting entries and hold targeting logic enable libraries to control whether a hold will trigger a recall of a circulating item as follows: * Recalls: Circulation duration that triggers a recall (recall threshold) is specified as an interval (for example, 21 days); any items with a loan duration of less that this interval will not be considered for a recall * Recalls: Truncated loan period (return interval) is specified as an interval (for example, 7 days), such that the user who currently has the item checked out will get the greater of either the recall threshold, or the return interval. * Recalls: An array of fine amount, fine interval, and maximum fine is an optional setting that applied the new fine rules to the current circulation period. When a hold is placed and no available copies are found by the hold targeter, the recall logic checks to see if the recall threshold and return interval settings are set; if so, then the hold targeter checks the currently checked-out copies to determine if any of the currently circulating items at the designated pickup library have a loan duration longer than the recall threshold. If so, then the eligible item with the nearest due date will be recalled.
