It defaulted to San Francisco for me, for some reason, instead of ETD,
so I was thinking folks were wanting to do this in the morning for
some reason. :-)

That's interesting. If I enable time-zone support in Doodle, I don't
have the option of adding text like EDT to the default times to make it
clear which time zone is being used. I could make the option clearer by
not using time-zone support. I noticed Jenny did this for the reports
meeting, and it was clear which time zone she was using. However, it
would force people to do math since the time zone dropdown menu would no
longer be available.

I'm not sure which is the best route to take.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Developer Documentation Wishlist

2012-05-18 Thread Lori Bowen Ayre
Hi All,
I wanted you to know that I've been trying to facilitate the development of
additional resources and somewhat reorganized resources for the new
developers in our community. As such, some of these new developers have
contributed things that they say would be useful for them. These
suggestions are being added to a New Developer Wish List page on the wiki
( http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=dev:new_developer_wishlist).

I've just modified the page to include references to some of the existing
resources we will need to build upon and/or modify and I'm also adding
links to new stuff that gets created as part of this initiative. So far,
the big contribution comes from Thomas Berezansky who drafted the Evergreen
Developer Overview (
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=eg_developer_overview). Your
feedback is requested.

Just to help people find this info while we are developing it, I also added
a reference to the Developer Wish List page on the Contributing Code page (
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=dev:contributing_code).

I wanted everyone to know about these changes and to invite you to comment
on anything I've done.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] This week in development

2012-05-18 Thread Lebbeous Fogle-Weekley

Hi all,

As part of an effort keep the community in general informed of what we
developers are doing in our caves/silos/dungeons, I'm taking it upon
myself to broadcast updates like the following every Friday.

This one is a bit hurried and off the top of my head, but in general I
will cover releases, development work, and dev-related policy news. In
the future, I'll start earlier in the week and poke my fellow developers
for input.

I'm aiming for a digest format that's brief enough to be useful for the
broadest possible audience.

---

Releases:
-
Monday: 2.0.11 released:
http://evergreen.sigio.com/2012/05/evergreen-2011-release-announcement_15.html

Tuesday: 2.2 rc1 released: http://evergreen-ils.org/blog/?p=769

Biggish development news I know of:
---
The developers in the community are discussing what the Evergreen
release schedule should look like long term. There is broad concensus
that major releases should start happening every March and September, so
that's faster than they've been coming out recently. With the current
numbering scheme, major releases are those where the middle part of the
version number changes. 2.1, 2.2, etc.

The number itself is under discussion as well. That's less settled,
last time I looked. After 2.2.0, whether the next major release will be
2.3, 3.0 or something with a date-based name like 12.09 remains to be
determined. In any case, we hope to make it happen by September 2012.

Bill Erickson is serving as the release manager for the next major release.

Thomas Berezansky has a feature branch that's ready or nearly ready for
acceptance that allows a staff client to be used with current versions
of XULRunner. The current stable version of XULRunner is now 12.0. Once
we can drum up a little more testing, Thomas' feature will be in master
and will be part of the 2.3 (or whatever it gets numbered) Evergreen
release.

Dan Scott may have found a way to significantly improve search speed for
broad search terms. There's a recent commit in master about this,
although there are reportedly issues making the new technique work
alongside some advanced (but necessary) search features.

Equinox announced upcoming development on a link checker for NRCan.

Work on more added content from 3rd party providers (Syndetics, etc) in
the new Template Toolkit OPAC is happening.

Lots of serials and acq bug reports are rolling in on Launchpad, which
is excellent, as we know there are issues out there, but concrete bug
reports help the developers find solutions.

Thanks!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Question about MARC Batch edit

2012-05-18 Thread Mary Llewellyn
Hi Mike,

OK, I'm still having trouble. I left off the "/" at either end, and entered
my string as ^NMLSYS$. All the subfields 9 were deleted, not just the one
I'm trying to target. I'm back where I started.

I'm sure once I get it, it will seem so easy. But right now, I'm totally
lost.

While the anchors (^ and $) might be useful, the /s are not. The value
entered is the regexp itself, not the Perl syntax to construct it. IOW, we
take what you give us, escape some of it for sanity and safety, and then use
qr// to construct a regexp object in Perl.

On the staff client workstation, it's called pending_xacts

It does get renamed once uploaded, I think pending_xacts.timestamp

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Offline Circulation Transactions

2012-05-18 Thread Joan Kranich
Hi,

Can someone tell me the name of the file where offline circulation transactions
are stored? Is the file renamed or deleted automatically after completing the
upload?

We will be processing a lot of Evergreen offline circulation transactions
during our migration to Evergreen. I am concerned if something is not
processed correctly I may lose the data.

We plan to upload and process the files through the client in Offline
Transaction Management. We are using 2.2 beta 2.

Thanks.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the assist. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me. When I ran
it, the string "NMLSYS" still appeared in 856, subfield 9 in the MARC record
I was testing.

Thanks for the information about the characters in the regular expression.

If you are trying to match exactly NMLSYS your regular expression should
probably be:
/^NMLSYS$/

Hi Elaine,

Yes, it is possible to do that! When you use the rule setup in MARC Batch
Edit, there's an option section called "Advanced Matching Restrictions". So
you'd tell it to add subfields z and 9 to 856 but only where 856 has a
subfield z that contains [fill in blank]. It would look something like
this:

Action (Rule Type): Add

MARC tag: 856

Subfields (option): z9

MARC Data: 856 \\$z (Patrons of participating GADD
libraries please click here). $9ARL $9CHRL $9CRLS $9CPRL $9DTRL $9DCPL

We are exploring options for adding a $z and a string of $9s to an 856 on
title records for Overdrive titles within the PINES consortium. The 856
for the specific url for each title will be provided by a vendor. Each
record will have a different 856 |u for the Overdrive url since it links
to the specific title. We want to take the provided 856 that will look
like:
