Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Holds / Circulation question

2020-03-04 Thread Forrest, Stuart
Thanks, Rogan,

Starting to get clearer.

The main reason for the questions was reporting. If a hold is transitted to
another library and a circ report is run. If I filter by Circulation Library of
the receiving branch, who gets the circ count or would I be better off using
Checkout Library in the report?

Sorry, my brain is fuddled today.

Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

To echo Anna, the owning library is an attibute of the volume / call number
while the circulating library of the item is going to be the branch the item
actually lives at. If you use floating collections this can change without
staff intervention but otherwise someone would have to change the circulating
library. This distinction between circulating and owning library is often
confusing as the owning library trait doesn't have a lot of obvious impact for
end users so it seems redundant and confusing. It's not actually redundant but
that's a whole other story, it certainly is confusing to many as you're finding
it.

The neither has nothing to do with the bib other than the volume connects to it
but it in part has an owning library so that owning attributes don't have to be
associated with the bib in a consortium where bibs are shared.

Our owning library is set to BCL and the circulating libraries are set to the

This may sound a simple question to some, but my brain seems unwilling to

So if a book that has been placed on hold that has a Circulating Library of
'LibraryA' is then transitted to 'LibraryB' where the hold is being fulfilled.
Does the circulating library temporarily change to 'LibraryB' so that library
gets the circulation? I'm thinking of circ reports now. Or would it be better

On the reporting side of things we expected our circulation to increase
dramatically. We saw a 40% increase in circulation numbers with auto renewal
for FY19 and are expecting that percentage to rise to 50%(ish) for FY20 as it
will be our first full year with auto renewal and patrons have become
comfortable with/expect it.

If staff have circulation reports that they have created and run regularly they
will need to modify them to display auto renewal circs if they want to track
that separately.

Hi

We are a library system that is part of a consortium (SCLENDS) and at the
moment the only system that is using auto-renewal and this is what we have
found so far.

1. The three-day notice will still go out reminding patrons there
books are due. (Our patrons see this as just a reminder)

2. Auto-renewal happens 1 day before the books are due and the
appropriate auto-renewal notice goes out then.

3. An item won’t auto-renew if one of the following is true.

a. The item is required for a hold

b. Patrons' account has expired while they had the item checked
out

c.Fines have reached the maximum allowed

d. Maximum auto-renewals have been reached.

4. The auto-renewal notice will give a reason if the process
failed referencing those case for example mentioned above.

5. Let's say you pick a start date of 1st of December then
anything that is checked out before this date will NOT auto-renew. Anything
checked out on or after this date WILL. Eventually, of course, all items will
auto-renew, we worked out that should take about 9 weeks from the start date.

6. We decided to have the same amount of auto-renewals as hard
renewals to avoid less confusion for the patrons.

7. If you have any items that checkout for less than 8 hours and
have 0 renewals this can confusing, but Equinox found a workaround for us.

8. If a patron from say Beaufort (BCL) comes to Calhoun and
checks out a book at one of your libraries, that book will auto-renew also. On
the other hand, if you transit an item to an SCLENDS member who is not doing
auto-renewals that item will not auto-renew.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Stuart

Overall patrons have been very happy with it though we did have one patron that

Evergreen includes functionality to take payments online through Stripe,
PayPal, or Authorize.net. This can be done on a consortium level, a system
level, or a branch level. A number of our libraries are using it and all have
opted for Stripe. The library creates the account with their vendor of choice,
the vendor provides a public & private key, we add those keys in the library
settings editor, and it's good to go.

Do any of you have Evergreen set up where patrons can pay their fines through
your website, and how did you accomplish this and is it integrated with
Evergreen already. If could it be a development project?

Any information would be greatly received.

Good morning,

Andrea Buntz Neiman and myself will be putting together the community annual
report this year. One thing we always want is proof readers. A few extra sets
of eyes is invaluable in the process. By the time we reach the proofreading
stage content will be largely set in place so the primary need is for spelling,
grammar and proofing for readability though feedback like "hey that page isn't
using the header font consistently with the rest of the document" is always
welcome. If questions come up during that stage about layout issues, color
choices, graphics, etc... your opinion will be appreciated on those as well
(and at least a few of those do usually come up in that stage). The schedule
will be:

March 1st - Rogan sends version one to proof readers

March 8th - first proof with feedback due from proofreaders

March 15th - second proof due from Rogan

March 22nd - second proof with feedback due from proofreaders

March 29th - third proof due from Rogan

April 5th - third proof due back from proofers

If anyone is interested and will be available during those times let me know.
If I get 20 people volunteering I'll probably pull three names out of a hat but
everyone's enthusiasm would be very welcome!

Hi Elizabeth,

We have two separate report templates, one for overdue fines and one for fees
owed for lost or long overdue items.

They are very simple reports that include the circulation date (year), the
total balance owed and the number of patrons associated with the billed items.

The filters include: circulation date (range), billing location and last
billing type.

If this sounds relevant and you need more information, please let me know.

Diane,

All the receipt template code will need to be changed with the move to 3.0. I'm
not sure if it's made it into the official documentation yet, but you are free
to refer to the documentation I've written up for PINES here:
https://pines.georgialibraries.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=circ:workstations:receipts

And field reference here:
https://pines.georgialibraries.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=circ:workstations:receipt-content

When we did our upgrade in January, I took the opportunity to change the TT2
files that store the default print templates so that they would meet our
requirements on day 1 without the individual libraries needing to change
anything unless they really wanted to. This helped make it a much smoother
transition.

Thanks, Terran!

That seems to do the trick.

If anyone is curious about how I added this to the checkout receipt:

I haven't tested this scenario, but you should be able to do something
similar...
1) Set up am empty variable before the ng-repeat loop:
2) Somewhere inside the loop do some math:
3) After the end of the ng-repeat display your subtotal: You Saved:

the end of the receipt with the above text.

We did this by adding the following code to the line item section of the
template:
%price% %price% %price%
and the following in the footer, where the sum is displayed:

I updated the line item portion for the web client with the new variable name,
 {{checkout.copy.price}}
but no matter what I do, the total sum is blank.

I cannot figure how to make this work. I was wondering if anyone has gotten

have any suggestions I could try?

I thought I would take a moment to announce to the community that the Evergreen
Oversight Board voted to use MOBIUS as our umbrella organization.
I would like the thank the SFC for the services they have provided and welcome
the opportunity to continue to grow Evergreen with the support of MOBIUS.
Both organizations have been notified of the decision. We will be making the
transition sometime after the 2018 Conference which is being hosted by MOBIUS
in St. Charles, MO.
We will be sending details of the timeline and changes as these are worked out.

Hello Everyone,

Currently we are running an ITG self-check system that utilizes magnetic
locking cases for DVDs and CDs. I know the documentation references no security
mechanisms in Evergreen self-check, but I was wondering if there is a way for
the Evergreen self-check to interact/activate the magnetic unlockers for
security cases? Is this a sought after feature/planned possibility? Or is the
built in self-check designed to be nothing more than its current basic form?

As of this morning, Webby is now routing both HTTPS and WebSockets traffic

give it a try; note that you may need to clear your browser's cache first.

When you say "not even an error message", do you mean in the interface or the

What happens when you go to https://webby.evergreencatalog.com:7682/ ? You

This isn't a complete solution, but maybe it'll put you closer.

If you go to SCLENDS shared folder, and Circulation, there's a report
template called "List of Patron Cancelled holds on Holds Shelf". This
report can be used to show items not on the Hold Shelf too. If you
clone the report and go to base filters, it has the 'Cause ID' as "6".
If you can determine what number equals staff cancellation, you'll
have your report. I've no idea which number that'd be tho'.

Hello,

Last week the IRC practice time went well, and we had a good bunch of folks
trying out IRC. I wanted to check in if there was interest for a second
practice time. I am all for it, but I wanted to verify that there was community
interest. Remember to include your colleagues that are not on this list that
may want to learn.

I tend to pick times after 12 noon EST to allow those on the west coast to
join, but I am willing to schedule something in the (east coast) morning too.

Thanks in advance,

list

Hi all,

I administer or co-administer all of the open-ils/evergreen mailing lists, and
I would like to make a motion that we deactivate the Evergreen-Admin mailing
list. It is a very low-traffic list (maybe a dozen monthly posts at its
busiest) with low membership (75 members), and most of the questions asked
there would be appropriate for Open-ILS-General. The list became active in
September 2012 in response to an IRC discussion
(http://evergreen-ils.org/irc_logs/evergreen/2012-05/%23evergreen.18-Fri-2012.log)
where the majority of attendees wanted a dedicated system administration
mailing list.

In my view, the Evergreen-Admin list duplicates the purpose of this, the
General list, in that the General list serves as an all-purpose venue for
(non-development related) technical help in running Evergreen. If you agree,
please +1, otherwise, please state your case for keeping it. ;-)

Thanks!

Chris

listings we require a link back from the vendor listing on our site to their
description of Evergreen related services.

I see this as a positive feature so that when community members are browsing
the vendor listings they can easily link through to the most up to date
information on the vendor's site as to what they offer, success stories,
whatever marketing they want to use beyond the brief they give us for the
listing.

However, like the original vendor listing policy we didn't want to make this
decision without involving everyone the community as a whole.

Horizontal vs. Vertical Patron Display
It’s hard for me to envision the two interfaces, based solely on your written
descriptions, but I don’t see anything off-putting about the way you have it
set up currently. I agree that there should be one way of building it, so
future focus can be on enhancements rather than playing catch-up and having to
maintain two versions (likely, things will start to be lost).

Link Behavior
As a diehard “open in new tab” person, I rarely trust links to behave the way I
want – therefore I tend to right-click or use keyboard shortcuts to ensure I am
not redirected from my current page. I vote for your proposed thinking. I think
you deserve a break somewhere in the process and this simplifies things.

As for behavior, your described clicking behavior is the same in Firefox.

Hi Stuart,

Which version of Chrome are you using?

Do you see any errors (in red) in the JS console [1] when you attempt to log in?

Thanks for the logs, Stuart.

This may be a firewall issue. The WebSockets server is configured to accept
connections on port 7682. It's possible the port is blocked somewhere between
you and the server. An easy way to verify is to open this page in your

If you get a 404 not found message that's good. If you get the web page is

+1 for improving multiple workstation registration functionality!

+1 for removing the 50-patron limit on searches! (FYI, I tried to log in to
https://bill-dev2.esilibrary.com/eg/staff/login just now to see how the paging
looked but was unable to. I assume this is because of changes you're in the
midst of?)

Catalog integration - There are certainly times when we want to see staff
client info on part of the screen and the catalog on another part because we
don't want to lose the context of what we are doing (for example, when we are
in a patron account and we want to place a new hold for that patron without
leaving their account). However, I don't believe it's necessary to display all
of the things that display in the OPAC and some things could probably be
streamlined (for instance, if I do a catalog search in my current staff client,
the OPAC footer information appears unnecessarily).

My preference would be to leave the existing client as is (with the exception
of bug fixes, etc.), but to offer the browser-based modules as options once
they become available. My reasons for this are:

1) It will allow for indepth use of the new module in a production environment
to uncover any bugs or performance issues while still having a known entity as
a backup. No amount of testing is going to uncover all of the odd little
problems like working in a live environment will.

2) When moving back and forth between the two environments, staff will be more
aware of the improved user interface and performance, and I believe they will
be more eager to transition completely to the new environment.

3) The browser-based circulation module may offer some immediate relief to
those frontline circ staff who are struggling with antiquated machines and slow
networks.

4) The new modules can begin to be thoroughly tested on mobile devices that
cannot run the current client.

Hi All,

I've posted a dev log entry briefly discussing the merits/challenges of two
different integration paths for the browser client:

http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:browser_staff:dev_notes (see
2014-04-04)

I've focused primarily on the technical aspects, but the decision at hand is
much more than a development decision. The path we chose will affect staff,
administrators, support providers, DIG, and developers alike, so I'd like to
get everyone's thoughts on the matter. My post is brief, little more than an
introduction, so please send any questions and comments along to the lists.

Thanks,

Here at Beaufort we use the Epson TM-88IV as a network printer. You have to

I'm wondering if anyone on this group has had any experience and luck with
getting Evergreen to work with their Epson TM-T88IV receipt printer. Our new

working with the latest drivers from Epson.
(Right now, the printer is shared from an old workstation that is only on the
network for that purpose.)

Thanks in Advance!

I've had some interest in asking question about the potential inventory project
that I'm looking for funding partners on. I've answered questions as best I
can by email and IRC so far but I thought doing a hangout might be fun. So,
I'm going to send out a doodle poll later this week to those who are interested
and I will host a google hangout at the best time we can find to answer
questions. Rather than spam everyone I'm going to send the poll to those who
have expressed interest already and anyone else who pings me and says they are
interested.

I don't have a script for this but based on discussions so far things we might
discuss involve workflows (this is something that we can spend a lot of time on
because not everyone does inventories identically), the process at this point,
funding goals, and plenty more.

Hi all,

At the June Oversight Board meeting (minutes available at
http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=governance:minutes:2013-6-20), I
raised the question of whether the Evergreen community should develop a policy
regarding the paid support vendors that are listed on the Evergreen web site at
http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_companies.

I don't think the community should be in a position of endorsing any Evergreen
provider. However, I think it's important that the companies on the list do
indeed provide Evergreen services so that users don't waste a lot of time
investigating companies that don't really work with Evergreen. There was a
consensus at the Board meeting that a policy should be considered.

I would like to get feedback from others in the community on the guidelines you
think should be used for this page. As an example, Koha asks support providers
to follow the procedures outlined at
http://koha-community.org/support/paid-support/how-to-get-listed/. The Koha
community asks support providers to send an e-mail to the general list with
contact information and a description of services provided. The providers must
also show their support for the community by adding a visible link to the Koha
web site.

I think the Koha guidelines might offer a good starting point for the Evergreen
community.

During the meeting, there was discussion about whether we should define what an
Evergreen service is. Migration, hosting, support, development, training, and
implementation seem like obvious Evergreen services. Should peripheral devices
or third-party services that work with Evergreen be included or are they a
different animal?

Does everyone like the Koha model of requiring listed vendors to add a visible
link to the project web site?

Does anyone have any other thoughts on the subject?

Thanks!

Good morning all,

I think rather than starting with a mailing list that we might want to start
with a meeting.

This topic has spawned a great discussion and I think there are very valid
points on either side of whether or not to create a mailing list. The larger
takeaway for me here is that we've identified a group of interested and
committed Evergreen folks who would like some sort of dedicated discussion
space to ask questions, air issues, and otherwise share information. As one
who has co-led the System Administration Interest Group meeting for the last
two conferences, I can see that there's a lot of interest from people with
varying skillsets who want to learn more about how to administer Evergreen at
different levels - consortial, system, branch - just like the software works.
There were roughly 40 people who attended the Local Sys Admin breakout
session, for example, and I feel like we only scratched the surface of what
people were hoping we'd cover in that limited amount of time.

So I'd like to propose a virtual meeting of people interested in Evergreen sys
admin issues where we can discuss the best way to address these newfound needs.
My assumption is that we could meet in the #evergreen IRC channel sometime in
the next few weeks (it will have to be May 14 or after for me to be able to
attend). I've created a Doodle poll where you can indicate your
interest/availability:

http://doodle.com/q4x47f86nhhpxar3

If there is enough interest, I'll go ahead and put the meeting on the community
calendar:

http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=calendar:start

I welcome your feedback for this idea. If people would rather approach this
differently, I'm completely open to alternatives.

Thanks,

Chris

I think the topic is deep enough to warrant a list, and if this group

installing/setting up Evergreen, using git, performance tuning,

I agree with Rogan. I think the idea is to have a discussion more focused on
system administration issues, rather then purely development, which is
currently defined as the sole purpose of the dev list. Even though there
likely would be membership overlap, having a sysadmin list would allow to focus
specifically on the topic and not add noise on the dev list for those who are
interested in the development only.

One of the strengths of the Evergreen community that I think we've

We're also a relatively small group and I think the last thing we

 I'm -1 to this proposal.

For many years, I've mused with other Evergreen system administrators
on the issues facing our particular role and areas for discussion.
The idea of making our own mailing list seemed like a good idea at
many points in those discussions, and if you asked me a few years ago, I
 would have said yes.

But here are some potential concerns I have now:

While our role within our organizations may be to find the best
practices for implementing/running an Evergreen system (and all the
related areas of interest noted), we can also have a key role to play
in Evergreen's overall development. As system administrators, we are
often at the cutting edge of testing, bug reporting, and
troubleshooting how Evergreen performs in the field. We can provide
invaluable feedback to the Evergreen developers when we discuss our
sys-admin issues in the existing lists / IRC.

Creating a separate list introduces the possibility that more
information can become lost between groups if people do not subscribe to
 every list.
While of course, many of us would likely be signed up to these
multiple lists and potentially act as representatives between groups,
I do not like to see the burden of communication between various
lists/groups to become a necessary conscious act on behalf of those
 subscribed to several lists.

 Like say for example:

John Smith has an installation problem and mentions it only on the
sys admin list. But it turns out to be an actual issue with the
Evergreen code itself and we have to involve developers to get it
fixed for everyone in the community. Do we then

Well, the conference is sufficiently far in the past that we should

First of all, I want to thank everyone who responded to my original question
regarding spine label printers and the Evergreen system. Your responses were
helpful and much appreciated.

It seems as if the Dymo TurboWriter 400 was the most recommended printer.

The vendor we use for printers claims that the Dymo wouldn’t be a good choice
because the printing will fade over time, especially if the books are left in a
car in the hot sun.

He recommends instead the TSC TTP 245, a thermal transfer printer. It’s over
$200 more than the Dymo and I’m wondering if it would be worth the extra cost
for the library to go this route. (They’re a small library with limited
resources.)

Has anyone out there used the TSC TTP 245?

http://www.tscprinters.com/en_US/index.php?option=com_contenttask=viewid=186Itemid=77

And has anyone had problems with the Dymo-produced spine labels fading over
time?

Thanks again for any replies!

In my case - trunk - I was able to search LoC and get results by

Evergreen for attributes) to '1' (to correspond to the LoC-supported

 The required SQL was:

 UPDATE config.z3950_attr SET truncation = 1 WHERE source = 'loc';

Then I shut everything down, wiped my staff client profile, started
everything back up, and did a successful fresh search of LoC.

This is consistent with what I see in yaz-client:

[snip test case]

S, we'll want to add the accepted truncation value to the 950 seed
data for LoC. This is probably required for 1.6 if the corresponding
changes from trunk were backported, yes? In which case, I guess we
won't need to create upgrade scripts as the base data will be correct

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Z39.50 Searching

2009-10-08 Thread Forrest, Stuart
Hi

We have a weird problem here that happens only on certain PC's.

Our cataloger is doing Z39.50 searches and after they do an ISBN search
the author/title searches always return zero results. I have tried her
login on my machine and it works correctly, but on hers and one other it
does not.

For example If I enter the following:

First Search

In the Author Field - conroy

In the Title Field - water is wide

10 of 60 Results are returned

Second Search

In the ISBN Field - 0553268937

10 of 10 Results are returned

Third Search

In the Author Field - conroy

In the Title Field - water is wide

0 Results are returned

If she then closes then opens the staff client and she can do the
author/title search again.

I have tried uninstalling her staff client and reinstalling to no
effect.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Stuart Forrest
