FYI a fairy inside Twitch added me to the do-not-ban list. More
generally, they said: "Second Life is banned but not every similar
looking game has the same restrictions. Can't promise we wouldn't take
action if the content ends up breaking ToS, but sounds like that
wouldn't be expected."

On 12/23/2020 8:09 AM, roy corr wrote:

I actually asked Twitch why a few years ago. Second Life is banned supposedly
because of the unpredictability of griefers appearing with adult content. I
have asked about Opensim and they see it as grey area as it's similar, can be
easily mistaken, or SL and the same stuff potential can happen.

Granted.. I know that you're not playing SecondLife.

However, these rules are up for interpretation by their moderation team,
which, in the past, has been very "uneven" in their application of the
rules. If a random viewer sees it and reports you for playing
'SecondLife' it may be a bit of a challenge to deal with it.
I would suggest big notices stating things like, "this is not SecondLife".

Re: [Opensim-users] Zoom in opensim

2020-04-16 Thread Diva Canto
FYI, Zoom works in the inworld browser, at least in Firestorm, with the
obvious limitations: it can't access the microphone and the camera, but
it shows the video, the screen shares, and you can chat. And if you join
by phone, you can have audio too. So, almost fully functional. Picture
attached.

This is almost entirely a client-side feature, not server side, so it
has nothing to do with OpenSim vs. Second Life. All the server does is
send the current URL and prim properties to all viewers that connect to
the region.

[Opensim-users] Release announcement: OpenSimulator 0.9.0.0

2017-08-15 Thread Diva Canto

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to announce the much awaited release 0.9.0.0 of OpenSimulator!

As usual, the release packages can be found in [1], as well as on the
front page of the the project's web site. The release notes can be found
in [2].

For those who have not been following the development branch, we caution
to be extra careful with upgrading your grids this time, as there are
almost 2 years-worth of changes in this release. A good practice is to
deploy it on a test grid first, and then deploy it for production.

[Opensim-users] Pre-release announcement for OpenSimulator

2017-01-08 Thread Diva Canto

Hi everyone.

This is an announcement of the *second* release candidate for the much
awaited OpenSimulator 0.9, opensim-0.9.0.0-rc2. As usual, the release
packages can be found in [1].

0.9.0.0 includes all the code donated by Avination about one year ago,
as well as several more improvements made since then. The code was a bit
unstable as we worked through thousands of merged commits, and
correspondent regressions, but we feel it is now stable enough to cut a
release out of it. Many people have already been using it for a few
months, including OSGrid.

rc2 contains many fixes identified in rc1, including some important
permissions issues.

We're still working on the release notes [2].

We appreciate people trying out this release candidate and reporting any
issues back to us via mantis. We are particularly sensitive to
regressions -- things that worked in 0.8.2 and stopped working in 0.9.0.

Best,

Re: [Opensim-users] Release and pre-release announcement for OpenSimulator

2015-10-22 Thread Diva Canto
Yes, we recommend you do, especially if you run an open grid or if your
grid is HG-enabled. 0.8.1.2 has a fix to handle certain edge cases of
teleports with upcoming versions.

0.8.1.2 is cut from the 0.8.1 branch with a couple of bug fixes over
the 0.8.1 release. You may remember that we did a previous 0.8.1.1 in
between that fixed a nasty bug related to primitive assets. Hopefully
everyone upgraded their 0.8.1 installations. If not, please upgrade
now to 0.8.1.2, which also future-proofs your 0.8.1 installations, so
that they work without any issues with newer simulators (particularly
important in open/hyper grids).

Hi Diva.

If we run 0.8.1.1, should we upgrade to 0.8.1.2 ?

Thanks for the good work.

Re: [Opensim-users] Diva Wifi 0.8.0 on 0.8.1.1 - Windows

2015-10-21 Thread Diva Canto

Wifi does not require mono.

Good morning,

I run a small grid on Windows machines (Windows 7 Pro 64), currently
still on 0.8.0.3. I want to upgrade to 0.8.1.1, but I am being held up
by the recent changes to Diva, and in particular to the Wifi module for
Robust, since it requires mono, and my grid is exclusively Win/.Net. I
haven't seen any posts explaining how to integrate the latest Wifi
version into Windows installs which do not require a full recompile of
the sources, which is out of the question.

Has anyone managed to integrate Wifi for 0.8.0 into 0.8.1.1 at all?
Would attempting this break 0.8.1.1?

Failing this, can anyone recommend a simple alternative to Wifi as an
interim measure? I am beginning to think about using JOpensim, which
will require the obligatory Joomla learning curve, so that won't
happen in a hurry.

Many thanks,

Unadecal

[Opensim-users] OSCC'15

2015-10-19 Thread Diva Canto
OSCC'15 is coming up! This year, it's 1 formal day (December 5) and 1
informal day (December 6). On the formal day, we will do single-track
events; the next day, the whole conference center will be open to the
community for organized as well as impromptu gatherings.

The call for proposals is out, so consider submitting one:
http://conference.opensimulator.org/2015/

As usual, everyone interested in Opensimulator, related projects and VR
in general is very welcome.

Best,
Diva

I think it's a lot. Ppl writing these hypergates should be a little more
restrained. There's no need to spam.

What kind of traffic is it? My Blamgates check their destinations once
an hour - perhaps they are doing something similar, but at a greater
frequency? Just a wild guess, though.

Thanks Shauin, and yes from the port numbers begin used I expect it
is indeed some scripts to check for things benign alive or pinging
hypergates, etc.

I wondered if anyone recognized the 191 second interval as well as
the IP address.

Once an hour is not too bad.. and I see four or five such IP
addresses one of which might be your blam gate for us.. e.g.
65.78.40.167

But every 191 seconds means my Robust.exe console is now full up with
these debug messages when I check things every so often... yes I know
I can turn that down to INFO only being shown..

Samples below... !!

08:55:32 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest from 94.135.203.122:63188
08:57:53 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest from 94.135.203.122:63260

Yes, that's my address. :)

You think every 191 seconds is a lot? My grid sees one of these every
few seconds:

...
11:33:34 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:33:37 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:33:40 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:33:44 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest

11:34:58 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:01 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:08 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:14 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:15 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:17 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:27 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:30 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:39 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:45 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:35:48 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
11:36:12 - [Wifi]: DefaultRequest
...

I can't see who they're from, however. I'm guessing that was added
since December 5th, which is the last time I updated my production
grid (or maybe I need to set something, so the addresses show).

Given that my grid has a region that's a popular HG hub, and that many
people have taken copies of the gate I have out, that's configured to
bring them to my grid, I imagine that some of what I'm seeing are
those gates checking to see that my grid is up. However, I think the
majority of it (in addition to the ~80 gates to other grids) is likely
to be the roller-coaster I have set up in that region ... I have 100
Blamgates, laying horizontally, up in the sky. There is a gate on the
ground, that rezzes you just above the first of them, and you fall
into it. Then it sends you to just above the next one, and so on,
until you get to the last gate which puts you back where you started.
It's quite a wild ride that lasts for about a minute. :) Anyway, all
of them are of the check the destination type of gate, so I imagine
I'm doing most of it to myself. :) Oh, if you ever want to try the
roller-coaster, look for the gate labelled 101, in Eld2. :)

What might be nice is a simple way of turning off just this one message.

2015-01-11 Thread Diva Canto
Ai's log shows a probe originating from the same IP address
(94.135.203.122) every minute and a half. If this address is yours,
please consider dialing this down. If I see this level of spam coming
into my grids, I will block the originating IP.

I don't think my address pinging another 24 times in one day is a

Re: [Opensim-users] about OpenSim GRID security.

2014-06-02 Thread Diva Canto
Not sure if this will make it to 0.8, but I recently added HTTP
authentication to all robust-bound connectors of internal grid services.
HTTP authentication is not hard security, but it makes it much harder
for unauthorized accesses to the grid services. (I, too, run a grid with
simulators in different data centers.)

On 6/2/2014 4:16 PM, David Saunders wrote:

GRid Security?

Well there is a lacking of it. I been working on a ways to prevent
grids/Simulators to connect to our network. Its built around allowing
sims to authenticate with a configuration server that will open the
door for them to connect to the grid services. But I not found a list
of ports that need to open for clients to use, and been testing a
list simulator ports to splite the services from the client to a
public set of ports and the simulator a set of private port that can
be open when they connect.

This would be easy if we did not allow trusted remote simulators to
connect.

When I asked about security lasst I was given you keep the ports a
secret and only give them out to people you trust.

A locked door is moor sure the a unlocked door behind a bush.

David.
