Re: [osol-discuss] // napp-it WebUI + NAS-appliance Online-Installer with OpenIndiana support

2010-10-09 Thread Stephan Budach
It's not a bug, but rather a feature request: wenn running
wget -O - www.napp-it.org/nappit-newest | perl

the installer states that it will reboot the host after installation - this
shouldn't be madantory. E.g. I have a couple of COMSTAR iSCSI targets that are
mounted on several Mac in my network. Performing an unscheduled reboot does not
seem approriate, I guess.

Maybe you could just issue a note that a reboot is recommended/required, but
leave that to the owner/admin of the host?

Cheers,
budy

Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of forums on a daily basis
and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick
comment to say I’m glad I found your forum. Thanks

Re: [osol-discuss] // napp-it WebUI + NAS-appliance Online-Installer with OpenIndiana support

2010-10-09 Thread Günther
hello budy

i will follow your request.
current newest-online installer will only suggest a reboot.

up to now i will always publish a newest release of napp-it first. if nobody is
reporting major problems it will become the default release some days later to
have this quite stable.

one more point:
what should be done next:

my priority is:
run napp-it as user nappit
virtual webserver share-management (each with different user)
otionally running napp-it with another webserver (lightpd) not on port 80

and (lower priority)
run AFP Server with AD-User (i have just googled about, but not found jet a
really simple howto or doing without installing samba/winbind). im new to this
pam things.

If anyone have a solution (netatalk with Active Directory -or LDAP-integration
on Opensolaris, please post)

this will be the next step for napp-it to be the most sophisticated free ready
to run nas-server appliance outside the enterprise market - this is what i
want to reach with it.

    Ouch...

Microsoft raises the price for Windows.
Adobe raises the price for Acrobat.
Symantec raises the price for NetBackup.

That's what prices do. Big deal. That's not news.

Well, it *is* news. Maybe not that significant, but it's something that
people should be aware of.

That said, I never understood why MySQL was actually popular. PostgreSQL
was so much better at the higher side of features/performance, and
SQLite was easier to use and (IMHO) better at lower-end stuff...

I still like firebird (free descendant of Interbase) myself.
(I'd prefer Model 204, but can't afford it, nor a mainframe
to run it on. Now, if DPT (free M204 clone for Windows)
only ran on Solaris or Mac...)
