Re: [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux
Agree with shardy that the meeting structure should be inclusive. Since it's a global project, it would be better to allow people from different time zones to attend the meeting. Of course, PTL be on the scene is most important. For me, personally, I'm new to Openstack and willing to contribute to Heat. I learned a lot from the website and maillist. And I'm planning to join the IRC meeting from next week for i think it would be a great help to get involved. 00:00UTC or 12:00UTC (it's 8 am or 8 pm here) both suit me (and people in the same team with me) well. Though there will never be a convenient time for all people, I believe passion would conquer inconvenience:) Regards, 胡瑞丰(Victor) 2014-04-25 发件人: Steven Hardy<mailto:sha...@redhat.com> 发送时间: 2014-04-24 19:17 收件人: OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions)<mailto:openstack-dev@lists.openstack.org> 抄送: 主题: Re: [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux On Wed, Apr 23, 2014 at 03:12:40PM -0400, Zane Bitter wrote: > At the beginning of this year we introduced alternating times for > the Heat weekly IRC meeting, in the hope that our contributors in > Asia would be able to join us. I'm mildly in favour of this, but probably only for selfish reasons since the current alternating time is bad for me personally ;) I definitely want our meeting structure to be inclusive, but I don't really have a clear idea of how many are exlcuded from participating (i.e those who actually will turn up if we continue alternating), so unless we get feedback from folks saying they will turn up at $alternating_time to solve the ghost town problem, I'm in favour of abandoning. Re: [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux
Hello Zane, either alt abandon or alt 12:00UTC are fine with me. Loosing _all_ US folks is clearly not an option. Besides, I think it would be good to have PTL attending both normal and alt meetings, if there are such. Best regards, Pavlo. Re: [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux
Hello Zane. It's really the great news, that you would like to make some changes in the alt meeting time. I agree with folks, that creating meeting at the time when we lose a lot of people from US is not a good idea. I think that we should have meeting at the time which will be comfortable for the most part of the core team. About alternative time: both variant looks good for me ;) >From the other side (if don't forget about ideas above), I prefer to abandon the alt meeting and move it at 19.00 UTC (if we want to have some "alternative" in the time). Anyway, thank you for the good ideas ;) Regards, Sergey. Re: [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux
Well, in a world where people are driven crazy by all kinds of internal and external work items, it would be definitely difficult to find a time slot that suits everyone. In a MNE like IBM, we always have this problem. We do a lot of meetings in evenings (before 11:30pm most of the time), and some early morning conference calls. At least, losing all US-based folks is not a good option. Having PTL in the discussion is desirable, certainly. Just two cents from me. Re: [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux
Seeing as its a global project, there will never be a great time. Alternating in nice, but that has the potential for someone missing important events for having their say cause they may just wait to the next more convenient meeting. We could have meetings based off where most contributors are, but that has the potential of stifling other contributors who want to get more involved (like me, but luckily I'm in Oz so a good timezone for the current meetings). We can keep them as they are, or keep it democratic, I think that the PTL should try and attend most meetings as they have been elected to help guide the project. Seeing as they are elected and should be there how about having a meeting time that best suits them? Tho that would effect me this time :) We vote for PTL so it is democratic, it's always going to be a bad time somewhere in the world, so this makes it fair. And everyone who wants to be involved will always know the time. Best part is, if someone doesn't like it, let them run for PTL. Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the matter. [openstack-dev] [Heat] Meeting time redux
At the beginning of this year we introduced alternating times for the Heat weekly IRC meeting, in the hope that our contributors in Asia would be able to join us. The consensus is that this hasn't worked out as well as we had hoped - even the new time falls at 8am in Beijing, so folks are regularly unable to make the meeting.
