[Openstack-operators] Auto start running Nova Instances after reboot

2016-09-19 Thread Davíð Örn Jóhannsson
Ubuntu 14.04
OpenStack Liberty

I’m looking for a way to ensure running instances are started on a host after
reboot, I’ve seen a way to do this for RHEL and CentOs by using
/etc/sysconfig/libvirt-guests but it is not available on Ubuntu as far as I
know.

2016-09-19 Thread Tobias Urdin
Hello,

On your compute nodes in nova.conf

[DEFAULT]

resume_guests_state_on_host_boot = True

All instances that had a running state when the reboot occured will be started
again.

Best regards

[Openstack-operators] [UX] Cloud Architect Information Needs Study - Call for Participants

2016-09-19 Thread Danielle Mundle
Attn Operators:

The OpenStack UX team is kicking off a new study that focuses on
understanding the information needs of Cloud Architects. We’re looking to
talk to people in a software architect role to understand how they *research
and recommend cloud solutions* to their employers. For example, what drives
the decision to recommend OpenStack, Kubernetes, VMWare or another solution?

The sessions would last no longer than one hour and be conducted remotely
online through WebEx during September 19th through the 30th. I will be
moderating the one-on-one session, and there is a chance that up to 2-3
observers/notetakers from the community would be present on the call.

If you’d like to help with this initiative, please indicate your
availability on this Doodle poll: [ http://doodle.com/poll/ic56yx5tauww33h2 ]
and include your full name and email address. I will then follow up with a
meeting invitation for your scheduled time. Feel free to contact me with
any questions.

We are also still recruiting operators who occasionally use Horizon in a
production environment for the Searchlight Usability project. More details
and scheduling here: http://doodle.com/poll/g6pv2iucktuemgyy

Thanks for supporting UX research in the OpenStack community!

And this works regardless of the operating system, we use it on Ubuntu.

[Openstack-operators] [user-committee][scientific-wg][api][UX] Results Presentation: Managing OpenStack Quotas within Production Environments

2016-09-19 Thread Danielle Mundle
(Apologies for cross-posting)

The OpenStack UX team will be giving a presentation this Wednesday, 9/21
that summarizes results from a series of interviews intended to understand
how operators manage quotas at scale as well as the pain points associated
with that process.

The study was conducted by Danielle Mundle (IRC: uxdanielle) and included
operators from CERN, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Workday, Intel
and Universidade Federal de Campina Grande and others.

The presentation details can be found at the top of the OpenStack UX wiki:

Hi,

I have lauched an IPS (intrusion prevention system, l2 device) instance on
devstack. I want to examine traffic hitting br-int and pass it back to
br-int. How do I pass traffic hitting br-int to my IPS instance. How do I
re-direct traffic to my IPS VM instance.

I want to examine whatever traffic hitting my compute node. Can anyone
please help in achieving this.

Thanks,
Shiva
