[openthinclient-user] SmartCard reader

2011-12-08 Thread Julian Ohm
Hi

I need to use my smartcard reader on my Win TS 2008. I'm using rdesktop for
the connection, but I can't use the smartcard reader.

Is there a way to check wether the smartcard reader works on openthinclient?

[openthinclient-user] rdp volume

2012-02-03 Thread Julian Ohm
Hi

I'm using otc with rdesktop 1.7 and windows server 2008 r2 as terminal
server.

I activated the remote sound on the wts but it's a very low sound. Is there
a way to make it louder? Perhaps there is an alsa setting for that?

Best regards

Julian

Re: [openthinclient-user] How to use the ACR38 Smartcard reader

2012-05-07 Thread Julian Ohm
Hi

What do you want to do with this reader? It,s not so easy using the
smartcard reader in the Session. The –r scard command gives you the reader
espacialy for the login process on your win7.

For banking or something else in the remote session you need special drivers
for your reader installed on the w7. Best you asked Zetes if there are such
drivers. I think it should be something like terminalserver or citrix
driver. Mostly the problem is not otc but the remotedesktopserver

I had the same problem. I had to change my cardreaders. Now I use reinerSCT
pinpad readers.

A few days ago I askek how to make runninge the pcscd daemon and Alexander

thinclient.

Many thanks.

Now, I would like to use my smartcard reader, of the Zetes society, the
ACR38 on a USB port.

I put on the rdsktop connection in the application in the parameters field
-r scard

I can see, the thinclient try to passe the device but my remote W7 doesn't
see it

Has anybody an idea ? Need I to put some specials drivers for that reader ?
And if yes, how ?

Thank's in advance beacause without the possibilité of using this smartcard
reader in my thinclient I can not use Openthinclient which would be an
incredible simple tool to manage the connection of my users to their W7
virtual machine.

Hi Ludwig,

yes, it looks like you're missing the driver for the network card. The
driver must reside in the initrd. Unpack the initrd and add your driver (you
need to build it according to the otc-kernel).

See: http://wiki.openvz.org/Modifying_initrd_image

Once this is done, you'll be able to boot via PXE, but you'll may notice
problems with the nic again once you're using localboot. To fix this, the
driver needs to be added to the base too.

Please also consider to ask us for the implemetation.

Re: [openthinclient-user] Ip Adress Manager

2012-12-18 Thread Julian Ohm
Ok i found a solution:

We are running: Windows Server 2003 with DNS and DHCP. You have to set a
Domainuser in the DHCP Settings for Logininformation. DHCP Server have to be
configured to set up the dns information always. Then the otc clients will
be registered in dns.

DNS-A und PTR aktualisiert.

Hi Pippo,

just to understand your problem:

the client find the pxe bootfile, begin to start that linux environment and
hangs while the linux bootprocess on mounting the root file system? Or the
client can’t find pxe information and stop booting after timeout for
dhcp/pxe response ? Perhaps an screenshot might be helpful.

been able to get into the thinconnect settings to be able to use
thinconnect. However, I did PXE boot them to OTC.

Subsequently I was able to just flash the devices back to a defaullt state.
So, with thinconnect I have audioand video. With OTC I have video only, but
the video streams much better than with thinconnect.

Most of the training we stream is really audio with some graphics. This
makes the thinconnect an option. That said, I would prefer to use OTC.

It's basically only a boot server, not a thin client server. It boots your

I have installed OTC Server on a Windows Server 2012 HP Proliant G4 and all

Usually you don't have to set the option 66 and 67 on the DHCP Server. The
DHCPproxy functionality from the openthinclient server can handle this - like
 describted above.
However, please try to change/set in the - environment - start option -
 PXE service

It is usually set to auto, but you can change it manually.
Restart the openthinclient-service and try it.

 Dear Mohan et al,

This seems to be something which depends a lot on the DHCP server in use.
I run OTC in a VM with the network adaptor in bridged mode. With a TP-Link
router doing DHCP, PXE works with no issues. The same is true if I am using
named and dhcpd. However, if I use dnsmasq instead then I need to specify
both the the OTC server IP address and the boot file name in the
configuration file, or PXE fails. Whether OTC would see the new client in
these circumstances, I don't know, as the clients had already been added
before I changed the network topology.
Mohan - are you in a position where you can use Wireshark on the network?
This will allow you to determine which step is failing.

Also, just to be clear, this is a machine which is new to the server which
is being PXE'd, yes? When you say that the PXE machine is not recognised,
you mean that the machine's IP address is not appearing in the PXE section
of the OTC manager display? OTC won't let you actually PXE boot a client
 until you have authorised it.

 All the best,

Option 66 will contain the ip or FQDN of your OTC Server

Option 67 will contain the name of your bootfile

For OTC you only need to set option 66. Have you done this?

OTC can be a good solution. I'm running OTC with 2003 Server as dc and dhcp and
2008 server as terminal server. I had old pc as clients but changed to old Igel
thinclients because they don't Need running fans or harddisks.

My Clients automatically start with rdp connection and shutdown after
disconnect from the ts. Perhaps you Need to Set some additional settings for
rdesktop. I can Tell you my settings next week.

Re: [openthinclient-user] OpenThinClient OS Loading Error

2013-08-15 Thread Julian Ohm
Hello Frank,

perhaps try to set nothing in thin client options.

I also use w2k8 Server R2 64bit as otc Server but also use w2k3 as dhcp and
domain controller. I do not set something in options. No nfs or something.

So I would try to set a default desktop application to the client and
nothing more. Then boot and have a look if the clients boot the linux
environment. If that works then you can try with your nfs share. If not you
should first try find that problem.

Betreff: [openthinclient-user] OpenThinClient OS Loading Error

I am new to openthinclient and this user list. I am in need of assistance
with properly configuring the client OS loading process. The information I
need does not appear included in the support wiki:

Background……..

+ I installed the server on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit), and I was
finally able to get the server manager application running after removing
java v. 7.25 64 32bit with the last v. 6.45 32 bit

+ I changed the manager application shortcut target to the 32 bit javaws.exe
path as described in the support wiki for installing on Windows 7 Windows
Server 2008 R2

+ I have opened inbound TCP UDP ports in the Windows firewall on the
server as identified in the openthinclientadvisor application

+ Manager is working nicely and I can add ThinClients from the PXE Client
list

+ ThinClient gets DHCP reserved IP address just fine; nothing special for
PXE booting set on the Windows DHCP server

+ Appears the openthinclient environment handles everything with PXE booting
and no special settings need be configured in DHCP server according to
support documentation and threads on this user list

Problem…….

+ Client boots via PXE fine to start the openthinclient OS shell… but
ultimately fails

+ The client OS loading stalls after completing the /scrpits/nfs-premount

+ Next lines report:

+ “mount: RPC: timed out”

+ “mount: nfsmount failed: bad file descriptor”

+ “mount: mounting 192.168.99.99:/openthinclient on /root failed: Invalid
argument

The 192.168.99.99 IP address is not my real server address but just an
example

Such an RPC time out error strikes me as a file path or sharing error of
some sort

I am guessing the default path to the boot file is incorrect as
“192.168.99.99:/openthinclient” reflecting what I think is the Boot Options
- NFS share setting “\openthinclient”

Since I am using Windows 2008 R2 64bit , should the NFS share be set to
“Program Files/openthinclient” instead?

If so, where do I change this?

What are the correct Boot Options settings anyway?

Thank you,

Frank

2013-08-21 Thread Julian Ohm
Hi Nils,

I'm not sure that i really understand what you want.

The Way OTC works (as far as i understood that).
With the first boot the client becomes known by the OTC Server. Heer you decide
whether the client should use OTC or not. If yes, then you have to configure
the client weithin the Manager. After that the client becomes the bootfile, his
operating System, configuration, etc from the otc Server.

Thats why the client need the connection to the server everytime it boots. Even
if you use the install on hard disk as far as i know. Then the Operation System
is installed, but the configuration still comes from the server.

Excuse me for my Bad english.

2013-08-22 Thread Julian Ohm
Hi Nils,

i’m still not sure, that i know what you want.

You told about clients an server in different (v)lans. If this is really what
you have, then client and server are not connected. You have to realize a
connection.

But now I think you mean different subnets, right? If yes, then you also have
to realize that the client ant server can connect. I think you have to think
about the right routing.

As I remember, then you need to set the 060 and 066 option in the dhcp. And
please check: I think there was an special needed routing option to route the
pxe signal through different subnets.

Hi,

thanks for answer, but thats not the problem. I Know that i need a server
connection every time, if the client is in the manager evrything also works
fine.

I try to explain my problem better:

We got a DHCP 2003n Server with 5 Vlans.

We want our IT infrastructur convert from normal pc network to a thin client
network.

The OTSServer is in VLAN e.g 301.

The DHCP Server also in 301.

If i start a PC with PXE the first time in vlan 301, the boot fail of cousre.
In the managment console of OTCServer now appears the new Client and i can
configure it. Next boot and it works.

My problem is that when i start a other PC with PXE the first time, boot also
fails but nothing in the managment Console of OTCServer appears.

So what i have to configure on my DHCP Server or Core Switch or waht else that
the OTCServer discover every try of a PXE Boot in all Vlans. I don’t want to go
arround the company and write 500 MAC-Address down ;-).

Why my Client not known after the first boot by OTCServer. If i added a Client
manuel it boots, also in different Vlans. Hope you understand my problem.

Hallo Nils,

Betreff: Re: [openthinclient-user] DHCP Server 2003 and registration of new pxe
clients

Hi,

Netzen booten.

DHCP Einstellungen:

043 Vendor Specific Info, 01 04 00 00 00 00

060 Client Identefier, PXEClient

066, Boot Server Host Name, my OTC-Server IP

067 Bootfile name pxelinux.0

Nils

[openthinclient-user] Disk Install

2013-11-28 Thread Julian Ohm
Hi,

Does someone know, how much space on the harddrive will be used by the base
components? I want to use the install on disk option but my flashdrives have
just 128mb. I think it's not enough. I just need the base and rdesktop
application.

Mit freundlichem Gruß

I still have the problem that automatic shutdown of the thinclients does
not work and some clients in my school run for serveral days or weeks.

When I create an application like

 sudo shutdown -h 20:30

the client shuts down at 20:30. This is good for automatoc stuhdown, but when
a user tries to shutdown a client manually, she shutdown process waits until
 20:30 o'clock.
It seems that shutdown can only be run once.

As we have also fatclients in our network, I don't want our pupil tu poweroff

Any ideas to solve the problem?

Hallo OpenTC Team,

 Hi Julian,

Yepp, you run into our lovely problem with all via graphic chipsets.
Background: Openthinclient does no longer support the old proprietary
via module since they (via company) stopped the the development for
kernel more recent than 3.8 . *bam*!

So we're forced to use the xserver-xorg-openchrome module. At this
very moment this module needs to be debugged. It constantly sends the
X-output to some internal connector which is physically not present.

This looks like a bunch of work. Any financial support is appreciated.
 Please contact Alexander.

ok the minerva version ist working so far. But I have a problem with my

this smartcardreader and rdesktop 2 weeks before, I'm sure that it have
to work. Just now after the crash an the new thinclient vm appliance
there is that problem.

I think there was a pakage to put into some directory to use that
cardreader and perhabs there is also a parameter to start rdesktop. I'm
using as paramter "-r scard".

Has someone an idea how to fix my problem?

Hi Julian,

as you already figured out the appliance password is: „openthinclient"

You could have saved yourself the time if you had taken a look at
the „Install"
section in our appliance download section where it is already
documented.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/openthinclient/files/virtual-appliance/

There you can also download old appliances. (Ceres 1.1 or Consus 2.0)
Please note that we don’t support these versions anymore.

Regarding your flickering issue with Pales
What kind of graphic card / ThinClient hardware do you use?

If all possible I would suggest that you open a bug report on Github.
https://github.com/openthinclient/os-core/issues

The old installers likely won’t help since they don’t run with current
Java 8 versions.

Bernd

Hi Bernd,

thanks for your hint with the "install" section. Please try to think
as a normal user, go to openthinclient.org und try to find a way to
get to that "install" section. I found the downloadlink and a link to
the wiki and faq. But that install section is not easy to find.
Perhaps it could be a good idea to put this to the faq or wiki.

the hardware is

IGEL 564 LX thinclient

Hope you have an idea to fix this.

Hi Julian,

as you already figured out the appliance password is: „openthinclient"

You could have saved yourself the time if you had taken a look at the
„Install"
section in our appliance download section where it is already
documented.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/openthinclient/files/virtual-appliance/

There you can also download old appliances. (Ceres 1.1 or Consus 2.0)
Please note that we don’t support these versions anymore.

Regarding your flickering issue with Pales
What kind of graphic card / ThinClient hardware do you use?

If all possible I would suggest that you open a bug report on Github.
https://github.com/openthinclient/os-core/issues

The old installers likely won’t help since they don’t run with current
Java 8 versions.

Best Regards,
Bernd

Hi

After a new Server setup, I now try the pales version and no
longer version 1.0

of openthinclient. But now i have big problems with the grafic.

The monitor is flickering and has stripes.

Because of the firewallsettings I also tried the pales vm
appliance, but i can't
find the password. in the old otc it was 0pen%TC but that does not
work any

longer

Hope someone can help.
