Thanks, Bin. Understood.

Perhaps we can schedule this topic for another week.

[opnfv-tech-discuss] Cancelled - Weekly Technical Discussion on April 5

2018-04-04 Thread HU, BIN
Hello community,

Because both Pharos 2.0 by Julien
and
Capstone
by Jing Lu will be rescheduled and
discussed on April 12th and Cedric hasn't confirmed his availability for test
discussion, there is no topic for discussion at our weekly technical discussion
tomorrow April 5th.

Thus tomorrow's weekly technical discussion is cancelled.

We will resume our meeting on April 12th.

Thanks
Bin

Subject: Look for discussion topics this Thursday April 5th

Hello community,

We originally planned to discuss a new project proposal
Capstone
by Jing Lu in our weekly technical
discussion this Thursday April 5th. The proposer requested to postpone the
discussion to April 12th because of a holiday. Thus both Pharos 2.0 by
Julien and
Capstone
by Jing Lu will be rescheduled and
discussed on April 12th.

Please let me know if there are other topics on this Thursday April 5th. If no
topics, I will cancel the meeting this week.

Thanks
Bin

Cedric brought up an interesting topic today in the release meeting that
deserves further discussion. Cedric says that in order to validate test gating
for the CD pipeline, test frameworks need the ability to conduct self-test
(functional) against a known-good DUT. Currently, test frameworks are only
able to run unit tests. This imposes a significant burden on all CD pipelines.

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] Guideline for participants //RE: Discussion about Fraser Plugfest/Plugtest from Testperf

2018-04-04 Thread Yuyang (Gabriel)
Hi Pierre,

Thanks a lot for all these information! I have subscribed your new email to the
test-wg email list: https://lists.opnfv.org/mailman/listinfo/test-wg. I will
send you the password in another mail.

I echo that it is a great idea to involve dovetail in ETSI Plugtest and we
should start our pre-testing now.
From what I know, the release set and optional set (draft) of test cases of
Dovetail has already included some tests from Funtest, Yarstick and Bottlenecks.
As to other test cases from our testing projects, we should also need the
feedbacks before the weekend.
We could dicuss it at tomorrow's Testperf meeting.

Moreover, I could not find the registration link for ETSI plugtest. It is said
on the website that the registration ends at March 31st.
Could you also help with that? Thanks a lot!

Best,
Gabriel

Hello all,

First: looks like I am not subscribed to the test-wg list, so my last email
bounced back to me. I didn’t find it on the OPNFV mailing lists site….can
someone please subscribe me to that? New email:
pierre.ly...@keysight.com

I spoke with Silvia Almagia, the Plugtest organizer at ETSI.

  * I told her about the plan to brainstorm in the community which scenarios
(features) could be brought to the Plugtest. It will be like I described: each
scenario would be listed as a separate platform for scheduling purposes.
  * There is no formal process to insert test cases directly into the test
plan. It’s done by suggesting and discussing it on the Plugtest email list, and
then discussing it during the weekly meeting. There are people who will help to
format it correctly, etc.
 * In order to do this, you need to be registered to the Plugtest.
 * The test case should involve interoperability. That’s the goal of the
Plugtest, so it should involve the three functional blocks: Platform
(NFVI+VIM), MANO and VNF(s)
 * If it doesn’t meet the criteria above, it can still be done in a
separate track
  *   Dovetail
 * We can include a separate (optional) track to have Dovetail testing at
the Plugtest. I can introduce it to the team at a weekly meeting, and then we
can start planning it. This would likely involve finding out who of the
platform vendors would like to attempt it

The most important point: time is getting critical. If a VPN connection to HIVE
is necessary, it takes a bit of time. Plus there is pre-testing to be done
between now and the Plugtest event itself. We really need to get moving with
this.

Best Regards,

Pierre

I just want know that is there any guideline or link, so that we could choose
to register our test cases/projects before the event?
I guess some of our projects may want to participate this time.

research institutions, universities, etc. that are not (for profit)

The TSC member election is scheduled on “mid-September” with
flexibility, but the TSC chair wording is still hard-coded to September 7.
I think that should be modified to be consistent – so that the newly
elected TSC members choose the Chair, not the outgoing TSC.

If that is indeed the intent here, which I assume so, then we should
revise the wiki text as soon as possible.

Another problem with the wiki section related to Chair election is its
 reference to the OPNFV By-Law

” (per section 5.5(b) of the OPNFV Bylaws
 )”.

That is no longer valid. We should refer to the OPNFV Technical Charter
 (or LFN’s) instead.

Subject: [testperf][yardstick][vsperf][nfvbench][TGaaS] Traffic generator as a
service update

Hi folks,

A few of us met last week at ONS, and continued the discussion on creating a
common traffic generator library in OPNFV.
The summary is below, and on the etherpad [1], please update if there have been
any omissions.

We decided to start with looking at trex drivers.
There are at least 5 similar drivers at the moment: NFVBench, yardstick,
vsperf, Red Hat and FD.io.
Comparisons have been done between some trex drivers, and revealed ~25%
difference in performance.
This is likely dues to differences in running the tests as well as different SW
versions, as well as search algorithms for the NDR/PDR.

We need to converge on a common driver so that performance figures are not
dependent on the test tools that is used.
There are slight difference in topology and test setup; each test should
describe the current set-up for comparison.
We will compare a common test between all projects to get a baseline comparison
before we start making any changes.
Because performance can vary between nodes, we will test on the same HW.

The plan of action is as follows:

-Find a POD

-An L2 forwarding test will be run by each participating project (order
and participants to be determined later)

o Some methodology and topology might need to be adjusted.

-Focus on common driver development to optimize the performance figures

-Re-run comparsions

We will also need to work on vsperf config parser (for yaml to Python) [2] so
we can have consistent config formats for all portions of testing.

The initial participants in this comparison are:

-Vsperf

-NFVBench

-Yardstick

We will update weekly at the testperf meeting.

Best regards,
Emma

2018-04-04 Thread Chenjiankun (JackChan)
Hi,

I have updated the reporting page for Fraser on the server. See:
   http://testresults.opnfv.org/reporting/index.html
(Functest, Yardstick, Qtip is ready now, Storperf and Vsperf seems not
follow the OPNFV Release)
(Also the Fraser Icon need to be updated)

I also have upload a patch, see:
   https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/54881/

For now, there is no data in the database, so the pages are still
empty page. Once we upload test results, each pages will show the result.

Hi Tapio,

We routinely use Trex with a switch so should not be a problem.
The wiki page mentions that the jump host has 4x10G ports, how many of those
ports are used?
TRex will need 2 unused ports and the corresponding ports on the switch need to
be configured in trunk mode and with proper VLAN range (i.e. it has to match
the VLAN range used by the deployer for the tenant or provider network n- this
should normally be the same configuration as the ports that connect to all
compute node provider network).

Thanks

  Alec

Hi,

The Nokia lab architecture is on
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/pharos/Nokia+Hosting.

You can run TRex on the jump host unless you want to do some custom
installation. The NICs are standard Intel 82599's aka Niantics, so dpdk should
just work.

I do not know how TRex works but I have had some difficulties with Moongen with
the ToR switches. Moongen uses timing packets and these do not go cleanly
through the ToRs, but everything works with a direct connection. Let me know if
you need something unusual.

Just want to add the ETA for getting bare metal installation automated by
script would have to be before this summer – which is not that far away (3
months).
To avoid any last minute surprise and further delay, it would be great if Tapio
could identify which jump host to use to run Trex and whether/when it will have
the proper NIC by then. Also note that we should be able to verify the proper
connectivity from TRex to the TOR and back without requiring a bare metal
openstack installation.
Once we get Trex operational, we will be able to run any test that relies on
Trex.

Thanks

   Alec
