Oracle locale builder.

2002-11-12 Thread Hatzistavrou Giannis

Dear All,

I am trying to create a new character set using the Oracle locale builder
tool. When i use as a basis character set EL8ISO8859P7 then the new
character set is created as expected to be. However when I use as basis the
AL32UTF8 it is not created giving me an error :

NLB access for this character set is not supported in this release.

Is there a patch that must be applied?

Current version 9.2.0.1

  Quite likely, if the volume requires it. 'Temporary space', as the
name indicates, holds data in the course of processing, before Oracle is
able to reach the final result. With parallel query servers, each one
fetches a partial result set, which has to be stored somewhere before
everything is merged. Even if you have no 'sort', you have a 'merge'
phase. If that's you were thinking of, I do not believe that you get
results on the fly from each of the parallel query servers, it would
make communications much too complicated between the client and the
server side. When you issue a 'fetch' call, you expect it from a single
source and everything needs to be streamlined somewhere.

stored outlines + remote db access

2001-09-26 Thread Hatzistavrou Giannis

Dear All,

We have an application that was performing very bad when we migrated a
remote database from 7.3.4.40 to 8.1.6.3.0.
SInce we do not have time to tune all queries issued by the application we
thought that stored outlines is the way to go.
The application connect tos the remote side throught database links. We have
created a trigger upon login of a specific user on remote site that actually

alters the session to use the outlines. However nothing happens (i.e the
trigger executes correctly but stored outlines are not used).

Your insight views will be greatly appreciated.

A good solution might be to read the eviromental parameters of the UNIX
session. In there you can set the SID and username/password.

$data_source="dbi:Oracle:" . $ENV{};
$dbbscs = DBI->connect($data_source,$ENV{},$ENV{);
$sqlstmt_tmcode = "select ... from ...";
$stmt_tmcode = $dbbscs->prepare($sqlstmt_tmcode) || die "Couldn't prepare
the tmcode statement!\n";
$stmt_tmcode->execute || die "Couldn't execute the tmcode statement!\n";

Dear Jeremiah,

I don;t quite understand you quoting
"Once the indexes have all
been rebuilt nologging into the original tablespace, all that's left
is to
refresh the datafiles for that tablespace onto the primary. "
Is primary a typo error (i.e. standby)?

RE: Rebuilding indexes

2001-05-31 Thread Hatzistavrou Giannis

You might be mistaken, since Oracle Manual (Oracle 8.1.5 Backup and
Recovery) , chapter 16 -- Managing a standby database --- Adding Datafiles
states the following:

"Adding a datafile to your primary database generates redo data that, when
applied at your standby, automatically adds the datafile name to the standby
control file."
There is also a detailed example on how to do it

How to interpret an errorstack

2001-05-22 Thread Hatzistavrou Giannis

Hi all,

I am trying to run a procedure and it always return a 1861 oracle error.
In order to check where the problem exists I have added an event in the
init.ora parameter
(event="1861 trace name errorstack level 10").
The trace file was produced ok but I don't have a clue what to look for. May
some one of you help me
find my way through!

RE: Script to remove redundant rows in a table?

2001-05-17 Thread Hatzistavrou Giannis

there is also the case of trying to enable a unique constraint on the
underlying table using the exeption option and creating an exception
table(utlexcpt.sql). The unique constraint will of caurse fail but inside
the exeption table the duplicate rowids will be written . Using this input
you can delete from table the duplicates.
