In your listener.ora file add the line logging_listener=off. Otherwise make sure
$ORACLE_HOME/network/log exists and is writable by the Oracle user.

Dick,

It works now after I change the $ORACLE_HOME/network/log/listener.ora to like
following:
$ls -al listener.log
-rw-rw-rw- 1 oracle oinstall 1732613 Jul 18 16:02 listener.log
But before the parameter is like following:
$ls -al listener.log
-rw-rw-r-- 1 oracle oinstall 1732613 Jul 18 16:02 listener.log
I just don't know is this file property changed or not? If changed, who changed it.
But before power off, it works fine.
Thank you very much again!

Before I change it, listener.ora property is like the following:
$ls -al listener.ora
-rw-rw-r-- 1 oracle oinstall 1732613 Jul 18 16:02 listener.log
After I change it by the following steps, it works fine.
$chmod 666 listener.ora
lsnrctl start

Now Oracle listener starts up. Thank you very much!

Re: Urgent - Help ....

2003-02-21 Thread Don Granaman
(Since this is urgent, I'm probably a few days late.) But for future
reference...

I assume that no change in the software means no changing variables and
such that can currently handle only a 9 digit number...

Can your application can handle negative numbers? Is this really a
surrogate key?

If so you are in luck! Drop and recreate the sequence with:
create sequence MY_SEQ increment by -1 start with 0 ...
(Add whatever else is appropriate - cache 100, etc.)

 Harsha,

You may even have to drop and reacreate the sequence number (if it is at
it's max too). Recreate it with the same name and start at its current
value and increment by 1.

What is running on top of the tables? You said no change or minor change to
the software... Will making the column bigger cause you to have to make
front end changes, as well? The table might be the easy part.

RE: Urgent - Help ....

2003-02-20 Thread Kumar Ajay
Hi Harish,

The only solution as per my understanding you have is to alter table and
increase the size just by 1. That will give you 10 times more room than as
of now.

Then start looking at forms, reports, DB_Objects , Local scripts etc etc to
make the possible changes..

In case your DB Objects are using %TYPE then they will work fine otherwise
in forms, reports u have to change...

Please revert back in case of any confusion.

Re: Urgent help needed, gurus

2002-12-29 Thread Mark Richard
Hi,

I hope my response isn't too late...

It may well be because when you do select function(x) from table the
query can return after processing the first few rows only (ie: FIRST_ROWS)
type execution. As soon as you ask for a count of those rows though it
must process every row (ie: ALL_ROWS). If the table is very large then
this is most likely your problem - although it's not a problem its just
the way things go.

Of course if you are running select function(x) from table through a
product like SQL*Plus that will print all the rows to the screen and this
is still much quicker then you might have a problem worth looking into. To
be honest I'm not sure if sort area size has a big impact on a simply
select count(*) but it might since a type of sort is used to count the
rows. I also have a feeling that using a function on a table normally
prevents parallel querying so perhaps there are some opportunities there -
but I cannot offer any specific advice.

Regards,
 Mark.

RE: urgent help: replication, shareplex

2002-10-02 Thread Aponte, Tony
Title: RE: urgent help: replication, shareplex

I suggest you take a peek at the waits for the Shareplex process on the source system. We found that the sp_ordr processes query the source tables via the rowid mined out of the redo stream. Sp_ocap also issues queries as well as perform DML on the Shareplex rowid map table.

I don't see how the single-row commits would have an impact on the replication. Shareplex doesn't wait for the source's commit before sending the update to the target so that activity remains the same. Upon encountering a commit in the redo stream, it then sends a message to the target so that it also does a commit. We do approximately 40 commits per second consisting of multiple DML operations and we don't any latency (when everything is working correctly.)

Subject: urgent help: replication, shareplex

Hi All,

I needed some help here involving shareplex.

We run two databases (an OLTP type, and a repository type) on the same E10K

domain

which has 8 CPUs and 8GB of RAM, using Hatachi SAN (RAID 5). Shareplex is

being used

to replicate a table from the OLTP type to the repository. The current

volume we are getting

is about 40 inserts per second to the OLTP. And at this rate shareplex is

lagging behind

doing the replication, for 24 hours now. And I see the shareplex process

running at 10%

while all Oracle processes are below 1% of the CPU.

The situation is complicated, because it involves a hosting company. For

instance, I would

like to run the two databases on two separate domains but they chose not to.

So they

are blaming our application for doing commit on every insert being the

problem. I agree that

(and I will make the change) to commit every 1000 inserts or so. However, I

don't believe

that's the root of the problem. From what I understand, shareplex is log

based replication

and should not be as resource instensive. And 40 per/second isn't a huge

volume per se

and I am sure shareplex can handle a lot more than that.

So any suggestions, feedbacks are welcome.

Thanks

Richard

 Joe,

We referred the auditing option. My understanding is that you can
track the oracle users using database auditing feature once the users
 are logged into the database.

But my requirement is to track the users who tried to login to the
database but could not login due to wrong password.

For example, somebody may know the connect string for an oracle
database and trying to login to the database as system user and with
various combination of password. We like to know who are these users.

 Thanks,
 Ashoke

Hi all,

I have never done this particular activity but by following the clues given
in this
thread AND BY reading the documentation I was able to make this work. The
steps I followed were.

1. change the initializaion parameter audit_trail to be:
audit_trail=db
shutdown and restart database

2. connect to the database as a user that has the privilege "AUDIT SYSTEM"
audit session whenever not successful

at this point you can see these unsuccessful logins by monitoring the
dba_audit_trail view.

RE: URGENT Help on tracking unauthorized login to Oracle Database

2002-02-08 Thread Aponte, Tony
Title: RE: URGENT Help on tracking unauthorized login to Oracle Database

I have an idea for a poor man's version of what you are looking for. Turn on listener logging to a level high enough where you can see the text of the net traffic. With some creativity or a copy of Sed Awk you'll be able to search for the invalid username/password text. A visual inspection of the surrounding log file lines will give you machine name, osuser, username, etc. Depending on your connection activity disk space may be an issue. We've implemented jobs to cycle the log every hour to reduce the disk consumption. I figure that you could do the same and delete any logs that don't have any violations in it.

Joe,

We referred the auditing option. My understanding is that you can track the oracle users using database auditing feature once the users are logged into the database.

But my requirement is to track the users who tried to login to the database but could not login due to wrong password.

For example, somebody may know the connect string for an oracle database and trying to login to the database as system user and with various combination of password. We like to know who are these users.

Thanks,

it might indicate that your batch program is busy and

idle wait event. In your next run, i would recommend
that have breakpoints coded in the batch that writes
into a error/log table about status and where the pgm

the log table;

are there any locking issues going on. take entire

When Attempting point in time recovery :-

1) Let Control File Online Redo Logfiles be the Latest ( Current )
Ensure that you have WRITE Permission to the Online Redo logfiles so that In
case When the Database is Opened with RESETLOGS After Completion of Recovery
, the Online Redo Logfiles will be Written to.

2) Extract ONLY the Datafiles from the Backup , NOT the Online Redo Logfiles
from the Backup

3) The Database should be in MOUNT Condition (NOT Open) When Issuing the
RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL TIME Command ?

4) After Completing the Roll forward by Applying the Archived ( Online Redo
logs , if required ) Issue Command
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS

MISCELLANEOUS - Check v$backup to see if STATUS = ACTIVE for the respective

If the table data isn't updated too often you can go back to an older

Hi,

Try restoring an old backup first. Make sure that the newest datafile is
older than the point you want to return to.
Than do your PITR again.

MAKE OFFLINE BACKUP FIRST BEFORE ANY CHANGES.

ANother option is to restore on a different machine, export the table and
import the table on the production machine. (NO other data lost)

2001-02-13 Thread Martin Kendall

You will have to use your last Hot Backup file set and
create a new database (use the alter database backup controlfile to trace
for the create db statement). Then apply all the arch. redo files since
THAT backup, UPTO the point before
the Table was dropped. Then extract the Table data and insert it into your
existing database.

Re: !!**** Urgent HELP (Table Deleted In Production )

2001-02-09 Thread Rocky Welch
 Hi Saroj,
If the table data isn't updated too often you can go back to an older export and import the table. If not, are you in archive log mode? Check your alert.log file for errors on the system datafile and let us know the status of your database to provide an accurate answer.
