you check a box and tell them you are "not under the control of,
the government of: Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Syria":

"Our technical support organization will not provide technical support,
phone support, or updates to you for the programs licensed under this
agreement."

I asked the metalink people if I could use otn download and receive
support for this software under our seperate, corporate support contract.
They replied:

"... you cannot obtain Oracle support via Metalink or
via phone support but that you must use OTN for your support. I looked
at the support page on OTN. It appears that your only option with
downloaded software is pay per incident. You could order the CD,
install it, then you'd have Metalink / phone support. When you have a
support contract then the CDs are free and if necessary you can ask to
have the CDs overnighted to you."

Mr. Gates would be very proud. ;)

otn downloaded software not supported at metalink

2002-07-08 Thread Ray Stell

I stated in a tar last week that my installation source was cpio disk
images downloaded from otn. The metalink analyst surprised me with:

Because Oracle Support (direct) does not provide support for downloaded
copies (see the license agreement on OTN) you must use the online
support given by OTN per the license agreement.

What, otn is the unloved stepchild, or is this a version of
good cop, bad cop.

Do you know what license agreeement they are talking about?
