Re: [OSList] OSList Digest, Vol 117, Issue 4

2021-01-10 Thread Ian Andersen via OSList
Dear Friends,
Greetings from Brussels.
Since March, when we were all last in the office, The European Commission has
been using Zoom and Jamboard and Google docs, or Zoom and PowerPoint on Teams,
or, more recently, just Teams - sometimes with Miro as a gallery area.
Our main finding is that OST online, while not ideal, provides a more
comfortable environment for introverts and massively improves our reach to
colleagues across Europe or posted to the wider abroad who otherwise would have
been unable to participate.
Naturally, we will never know if outcomes would have been different/“better”
IRL.
Happy to take part in a call if the timing works.
Warm regards,
Ian

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-10 Thread Tom Brown via OSList
All,

In the Tessitura Community, Don Youngberg and Meredith Woolard have done some
nice work doing OS over Zoom by itself and using Zoom Break Out Rooms, and a
simple google sheet for marketplace and News Room.

Erica Marx and the folks of the Applied Improvisation Network (AIN) are also
doing some lovely Open Space again over Zoom again using a google sheet for
marketplace.

Most of these google sheet & Zoom Room approaches are scaling to up to about
100 folks. (8-10 break out rooms at most per time slot.)

Through attending a number of these gatherings, It seems to take several folks
to run a gatherings of more than a few dozen or so.  I’ve also noticed that
there are different approaches to the all important law of two feet or mobility.

Clearly QiQoChat is the tool we will be using for the Annual Peace and High
Performance event is one option that can scale.  And many wonderful folks in
this community are using that platform.  It is my understanding that Phelim &
the Improbable team use QiQoChat for Devoted & Disgruntled events.

I’ve also discovered several other platforms that have promise for scaling or
producing a little different experience around Open Space.  Remo & Bevey among
them.  These seem to offer interesting opertunities for the law of two feet.
However, each of these have limits on break out space size and are missing some
key features for Open Space related to market place and news rooms.  They are
typically limited to 6-8 in a small group break out discussion.  When doing
large scale open space this is missing the important opportunity for the crazy
big break out session on a hot topic of the moment where 50 folks show up and
have a really important discussion, learning that others care passionatly about
the same thing.

Related to this topic of bringing Open Space online.  I’m also interested in
exploring virtual worlds like Second Life and VR platforms like the Oculus
Quest as a potential way to do/experience Open Space. (I know that it is not
one less thing.) But, I’d love to play, will anyone who has an Oculus Quest and
will be attending the upcoming Peace & High Performance Event.   I’d love to
explore what might be possible online in a more embodied way.  This would take
some prep prior to the event (I know not very open space of me wanting to prep
a little bit.)  But if someone want to try, Please be in touch let’s see what
we can pull together.  We might even get creative and see if we can broadcast a
virtual world into a more traditional zoom environment.  I know that this was
done by the Museum and Computer Network collecting Microsoft Teams to Second
Life.

Finally from a more philosophical point of view we already have millions of
folks participating in an ongoing open marketplace of ideas using platforms
like meetup, eventbrite, and the like.  The question there is how do we hold
the opening circle and get better cross group butterfly and bumblebee action.

Looking forward to the conversation in a few week.

2021-01-10 Thread Jamie Colston via OSList
Hi All,

I would love to be involved. We have been hosting OST in Zoom for the last
few months and Qiqo Chat too.
Liz, I am co-hosting a tour of qiqo for some in the art of hosting
community one Sunday if you fancy joining us. Anyone else is welcome to
join too.
Also check out the applied Improv Network who have been using OST three
times a week since lockdown began on zoom. They have got it down to a fine
art and also it is a great place for cross pollinating networks and
learning.
Look forward to hearing more soon

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-10 Thread JL Walker B. via OSList
Dear friends,

I was thinking that this conversation could be one that we can post it and
carried it forward in the next great Open Space that Suzanne Daigle was
inviting us some days ago in this list and that I copy below.

Hugs,

Juan Luis

PS: And here in Spanish you can see the report of my last and recent experience
with all this new way of making open space https://tinyurl.com/y4vckcj2

Dear “Peace and High Performance” alumni colleagues and friends,

As you will have guessed, it will not be possible for us to meet at
International House in January this year. The good news however is that we will
be hosting this important gathering virtually instead. We hope many of you,
like us, feel the great urgency to open more space in these times.

Here is a brief excerpt of our invitation warmly extended to all of you. Also
the link with more details and registration information.

Please feel free to invite others.

https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2021

2021 INVITATION January 22-24, 2021 (from 10 am to 3 pm EST)
“The need and yearning to open more and more space has never been greater on
our planet. These urgent times need us everywhere, all of us, head and heart.
Together, we must challenge ourselves to invite broadly, to engage and inspire
each other to action.

The key question and challenge facing us now could be:

“How do we engage 8 billion people in meaningful conversation?”

The “Opening Space for Peace and High Performance” gathering held at
International House in New York City, with its timeless theme, is a
long-standing tradition. This year, it will find its virtual home on QiQoChat
and Zoom. We welcome individuals and groups who are seeking to learn and
experience Open Space Technology for the very first time; or others who wish to
deepen their facilitation practice with colleagues and friends.

It will unfold in the spirit of Open Space with its guiding 5 principles and
law, ignited by a theme that has guided passion and responsibility over the
years. We will seek the simple ways to engage, learn and share virtually
together. Just as we have in the past, it will happen in January, honoring the
legacy of Martin Luther King.

In 2020, Harrison Owen, the originator of Open Space Technology, presciently
spoke of these times with all its system breakdowns and challenges as an
extraordinary opportunity “to engage 8 billion people in useful conversation”.
It is a call to conversation and action that resonates for these times.

We look forward to being with you!”

Karen, Suzanne and Harrison

Hi everyone!

I'd love to join you all. I've used both QiqoChat and a Webex + Microsoft

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-10 Thread Steve Holyer via OSList

Count me in if it works out timewise.

I’m in Central Europe so 12 Noon EST (New York/Toronto) is 6PM my
time. Anything starting before 2PM EST (and ending when it ends :)
works for me.

I can’t get enough of QiqoChat (which is Zoom-based but offers some
nice features for seeing the butterflies and hearing the buzz of the
bumblebees—not ti mention collecting the posters on the walls).
I’ve held several open spaces on QiqoChat, keeping it simple is key
(for me.

The difference between Zoom and face to face, is before you prepare the
walls and put the chairs in a circle — you have to build the whole
room first. That turns out to be an enabling constraint for me.

I also teach an Open Space facilitation course online that uses QiqoChat
for the course meeting space. (We touch on online facilitation because,
duh. But the course is about holding space in general not specifically
online faciltatation. We we work with Micheal Herman’s and Chris
Corrigan’s books (not to mention the OS Guide).

So yeah count me in if it starts at the right time!

Cheers,
Steve

Peggy. Sooner the better, for me. Planning some more meetings now.

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-10 Thread Peggy Holman via OSList
Lovely to see you here Romy!

I’m game to be in a conversation. Since I’m in the same time zone as Chris,
though across a border, if the time works for him, it works for me.

I’ve just used Zoom and Google docs for the breakout spaces. You can see an
example from a gathering on journalism education that matters
 that was turned
into a website after the convening. The session notes were once Google docs.

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-10 Thread Chris Corrigan via OSList
If the time zones work, I’d be interested. My crew is doing OST events with
Zoom and Miro (and Google Slides) and we could share some stories.

It works far better than I would have expected.

[OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-10 Thread Romy Shovelton via OSList
Hello lovely OS world and extended family….

Apologies for being absent for SO long….. I lurk occasionally and enJOY seeing
you there, sharing wisdom so brilliantly and inspiringly. Thank you.

Seeing Funda’s posting…. I would LOVE to have a conversation (dare I say Zoom
?!!) with OS people about how to make OS the best it possibly can be in an
online world. I know that Phelim and the Improbable crew have done some online
work. If anyone might be interested in talking about such things, I would love
it….

Many thanks
