Dear friend, how are you?

I'm writing you asking for some feedback on the idea of inviting Wosonos

at last to do so. I hope my English is good enough to have well
understood Jo 's last message on 23-11-2021 to the Oslist.

As I wrote to the oslist, I've been last days checking around and

   * there's a venue in Bilbao that we would like most and tomorrow we'll
been having news about the availability
   * Myself I'm very motivated with this long "dream" and if we go ahead,
I'lhave plenty of time to focus on the prject. Besides, Bilbao is my
place, thecity I wasw born and the one I best know and manage
   * I know lots of OS people around. I've spoken a bit about the idea
and it seems we would soon team up for W22
   * I think it would be great to invite to regather, specially in this
times full of uncertainty and in which OS is so pertinent.

Dear Open Space Colleagues and Friends,

Over 20 countries; more than 130 participants; 3 days that beckoned an extra
day; 54 topics documented in a 157-page book of proceedings. Add to this three
amazing facilitators (Hélène de Saint-Front from Paris, France; Don Youngberg
from Connecticut, USA; and Ola Chodasz from Poland) who opened the space each
morning in their very own style (recorded with links in the proceedings) with a
cast of wonderful volunteers, it is little wonder that we were all so inspired.

It was another adventure in co-learning and experiencing open space in the
spirit of this 20-year plus gathering of "Opening Space for Peace and High
Performance" which has been traditionally held at International House in New
York City. This highly successful, first virtual gathering with its compelling
theme cannot help but stir our imagination for more.

An important Call to Action with a QUESTION bigger than anyone could fathom:
"How do we engage 8 billion people in meaningful conversation?" Ignited by
Harrison Owen, originator of Open Space amplified in his reflections on
Saturday and Sunday morning (also with video links in the proceedings), this
unanswerable question spoke to the palpable urgency and opportunity of these
times.

A gathering of 3 days that became 4 is now living in us as an infinite DAY 5
and Keeping the Spirit Alive.

Here to stir your longing to open more and more space is the link featuring all
of the above.

Oh Yes... OSLIST started as a phone operated bulletin board. And for sure it
doesn't exist in 4 colors/touch screen. BUT it has probably existed as long or
longer than any competitors, is searchable, carries the
thinking/sweat/arguments of those who discovered living in Open Space (that
would be 1000's) and Harold (the most recent curator) has done a marvelous job.
Thanks. Could it be better? Sure... but it has worked for ? (20??)years! And
please don't fix it if it ain't broke...

A super super simple way to pay attention to the list, and to follow threads

Dear community

Thank you all for all the wonderful moments that we have shared over the years.

I am following up on an action I felt inspired to call at the Peace and High
Performance event.

If you are interested in the following, then I Invite you to send me a message
and let me know, If you want to be added to a public list of group members, I
will do so, otherwise I can keep your participation private. I will send an
email to people who have asked to be signed up before February 1st looking for
a time to open discussion on zoom or similar platform.

A story from the event: I posted a Question on youth and we discussed how
people open space for their peers, it's not really the job of the outsider to
come in and tell the Others what to do. After many other discussions an
emerging theme was apparent to me, it was the theme of listening. Authentic
listening, Deep listening, Appreciative inquiry and listening, Celan Language
and listening, Open Space and listening, Presence and listening there were
some more conversations, reaching out to people in bubbles. crossing divides,
being present for the inexperienced, the young. I posted a question on
structure. Sociocracy as a structure was proposed. Well, some of us want to
continue this conversation. We want to see a structure that is there for people
reaching out to people in the many fragmented communities and listen, be it
online in one form or another or even in the meat space whan that is safe.

Anyhow, we are now putting together a group to build an embracing structure of
presence for people who go to different communities for appreciative listening
and being present for them to open space in their circle!

I am looking forward to your reply, my email address is kortleg...@gmail.com

Hello lovely OS world and extended family….

Apologies for being absent for SO long….. I lurk occasionally and enJOY seeing
you there, sharing wisdom so brilliantly and inspiringly. Thank you.

Seeing Funda’s posting…. I would LOVE to have a conversation (dare I say Zoom
?!!) with OS people about how to make OS the best it possibly can be in an
online world. I know that Phelim and the Improbable crew have done some online
work. If anyone might be interested in talking about such things, I would love
it….

Many thanks

Romy

Dear friends,

I was thinking that this conversation could be one that we can post it and
carried it forward in the next great Open Space that Suzanne Daigle was
inviting us some days ago in this list and that I copy below.

Hugs,

Dear “Peace and High Performance” alumni colleagues and friends,

As you will have guessed, it will not be possible for us to meet at
International House in January this year. The good news however is that we will
be hosting this important gathering virtually instead. We hope many of you,
like us, feel the great urgency to open more space in these times.

Here is a brief excerpt of our invitation warmly extended to all of you. Also
the link with more details and registration information.

Please feel free to invite others.

https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2021

2021 INVITATION January 22-24, 2021 (from 10 am to 3 pm EST)
“The need and yearning to open more and more space has never been greater on
our planet. These urgent times need us everywhere, all of us, head and heart.
Together, we must challenge ourselves to invite broadly, to engage and inspire
each other to action.

The key question and challenge facing us now could be:

“How do we engage 8 billion people in meaningful conversation?”

The “Opening Space for Peace and High Performance” gathering held at
International House in New York City, with its timeless theme, is a
long-standing tradition. This year, it will find its virtual home on QiQoChat
and Zoom. We welcome individuals and groups who are seeking to learn and
experience Open Space Technology for the very first time; or others who wish to
deepen their facilitation practice with colleagues and friends.

It will unfold in the spirit of Open Space with its guiding 5 principles and
law, ignited by a theme that has guided passion and responsibility over the
years. We will seek the simple ways to engage, learn and share virtually
together. Just as we have in the past, it will happen in January, honoring the
legacy of Martin Luther King.

In 2020, Harrison Owen, the originator of Open Space Technology, presciently
spoke of these times with all its system breakdowns and challenges as an
extraordinary opportunity “to engage 8 billion people in useful conversation”.
It is a call to conversation and action that resonates for these times.

We look forward to being with you!”

Karen, Suzanne and Harrison

How timely. Thanks, Romy, for inviting this - and greetings to you all.

Yes please, I’m on the journey of going from smaller events using just Zoom to
a bigger weekend event 100+, hopefully using QiqoChat, and would love to hear
stories and learning.

I’m in the UK and happy to be flexible as far as possible with timings.

[OSList] Open Space Apreciativo de la Pandemia (OSAP)

2020-10-14 Thread JL Walker B. via OSList
Dear friends of the World wide Open Space community,

I am very excited about the development of this invitation, for which I have
had the invaluable support of Lucas Cioffi in the use of QiqoChat, whose
name is APPRECIATIVE OPEN SPACE OF THE PANDEMIC and which will be held this
coming Saturday, October 17, 16:00 to 19:00 hours (Spain, UTC + 2). It is an
international, free and virtual invitation for all those Spanish-speaking
people who want to talk and reflect on POSITIVE EXPERIENCES AND LEARNING
THAT WE HAVE LIVED DURING THIS PANDEMIC.

The starting question will be: WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST OF OUR OWN EXPERIENCE
OF THE PANDEMIC?

Perhaps some of you who do not speak Spanish very well, as I do with
English, risk participating in this inspired and loving encounter.

All the people who come are very welcome!

A big hug for all,

Juan Luis

Re: [OSList] Host your first online open space for free (up to 200 participants)

2020-08-31 Thread JL Walker B. via OSList
Dear Lucas:

Thank you very much for your amazing and generous support in my introduction to
the use of QiQo, of which I am still an inspired and complete learner.

I am currently working with great enthusiasm on a great invitation that could
allow me to debut in its use together with Open Space Technology, in a citizen
context.

His name would be “2ND APPRECIATIVE OPEN SPACE OF THE PANDEMIC (via QiQoChat)”
which goal would be something like this: “Generate a great virtual open space
for dialogue and creative reflection WITH ALL THOSE Spanish-speaking PEOPLE who
want with passion and responsibility talk about the benefits and positive
things that we have discovered during this pandemic”.

Thanks a lot,

Juan Luis

Hi All,

The world sure needs a little OS right now.

Many OS facilitators haven't had the chance to facilitate one online yet. Here
are two of the first barriers you face:

1) you need a client that wants online OS, and

2) you need to get comfortable using the tech

As we know with in-person OS, the best way to learn it is to try it. Let's see
if we can help people on this list overcome the two barriers listed above.

Overcoming the Lack of a Client

First, I'd like to provide free use of Qiqo for any on the OS List who wants to
host their first OS online, up to 200 participants in a 1-day OS. With the
platform being free, then there's less of a need to get a client to pay -- the
only remaining cost is your time. Maybe participants will donate, maybe you
can charge a fee, or maybe it's worth it to you to bring OS to an organization
that needs it but cannot afford to pay. This is an opportunity to do that. If
you run this first one well, then your participants might become your next
clients.

Overcoming the Learning Curve

Fortunately, you do not need to learn the tech on your own. If enough folks on
this list are interested, we'll form groups of 3-4 facilitators who can meet
once per week for an hour to share their progress and to provide constructive
suggestions to each other. I will be available for free trainings and open
office hours each week here .

Who is this for?

This offer applies to anyone who has not yet hosted an online open space event
on Qiqo. If interested, please send me an email before September 1st. The
event can happen any time in 2020. You can do this as a free event or you can
earn money from it -- that's 100% up to you.

I'm sharing this email with the OSList, NCDD, and the Liberating Structures
Slack Community.

Hello, OSLIST friends -

I have not written anything here since 2016 - although I am still sitting in
the circle and listening in.

Some of you are dear friends from across the years (note my new email, by the
way). A few of you have mentioned that it might be nice if I wrote to the list
about how I am doing.

This message is long, because a) I have not visited in awhile, b) I am having a
conversation with you here in my head over time, and c) in Open Space, even a
group of 1 can have a rich conversation for an entire session or longer - and
can then share their documentation of that exploration back to the rest of the
group in their Book of Proceedings. Of course you have a choice to read it or
delete it.

Those of you who know me extra-well know that - since you have known me - I
have while working as a facilitator and educator also been very involved in the
care of elderly parents. What just a few of you know is that I have also been
living with a health condition called
 ME/CFS. That condition has
progressed. I am fortunate that I am still able to care for myself, although
here is one way to describe this particular invisible-to-others disability: I
have to rest in-between putting on my right shoe and my left shoe. But I can
still put on my shoes ;o)(and hey, who needs shoes in COVID quarantine??)
To understand the impact of this health issue (for people who have it much much
worse than I do), perhaps your country offers access to a sobering yet
beautiful documentary called Unrest. A few years
ago I realized that true, radical wellness meant that I must release even those
things I love (love love love facilitation and teaching about facilitation -
love it). I did not feel sad releasing my client work - I felt lighter. I still
grieve not being able to teach and facilitate, and in so many diverse settings,
countries and cultures. But I knew immediately that it was the right thing to
do. Last year my amazing father died, this year my amazing mother-in-law died,
and after two decades of parental care, now my wife and I have more time and
energy to care for our selves.

Interestingly, I never thought of myself as disabled until recent years,
because I simply lived my life. However, since my parents raised me in a
richly-diverse world, I have always had a passion for seeing / imagining /
designing with a priority of and focus on access and inclusion. So here I am in
an embodied experience exploring things I always imagined might be someone
else's experience. Fascinating.

I write this next part simply to share my background, with those of you who
have not yet met me: I have facilitated for 40-something years. My interest
area is dialogic methods that scale up (only one facilitator needed for a group
of 5 or 3000+), that work across country and culture (without requiring
participants to learn someone else’s vocabulary; without working through the
facilitators’s own cultural filter), and in which participants frame their own
experience (rather than the facilitator doing so). When I say 'dialogic', I
mean those processes which engage participants in internal and external
dialogue (conversation with self, conversation with others). And when I say
conversation, I do not mean everyone has to speak aloud. Witnessing - fully
listening - is participation just as much as speaking. I use existing and
custom-designed processes which engage participants in silent reflection,
kinesthetic and graphic thinking, improv, role play, poetry creation, movement,
and (no surprise!) such methods as Open Space, World Cafe and Focused
Conversation Method. Here is another way of
showing who I am (there are so very many different ways of seeing / naming /
showing one's self).

And now I write this part to share what I feel so proud of - and because
writing this shows me back to myself, with you as witness to my "prouds". I
have much more life to live, but this is also a point of my life where I am
reflecting a bit. I am so proud of having been able to learn so much from and
with so many of you. I am amazed (but not surprised) about how Open Space (I
will call it OS) works. I have used it in over 20 countries, and within those
countries with participants of many mixes of cultures and countries of origin.
I have used it when only one person showed up, and with groups of 3500. I have
seen groups use it to figure out how to spend a billion dollars of funding over
the next several years, in a way that was different than
