For what it's worth, I've not managed to make OSMand work well for me in
that application. I use Backcountry Navigator - a lot - for mapping work
Out There. (My biggest 'boots-on-the-ground' OSM mapping project
to date was capturing the centre line of the 220-km Northville-Placid
Trail https://hiking.waymarkedtrails.org/#route?id=4286650=relation
and it was a great vacation!)

I don't know the state of outdoor mapping where you are, but where I am,
it's
downright abysmal. I've resorted to rendering my own tiles with Mapnik,
using OSM plus a number of government data sources. The result is
a map something like https://caltopo.com/l/416J - choose the 'Kevin' layer
if it's not already selected. (Sorry about the Imperial measurements -
I'm an American.)

You can see there that there are coniferous, deciduous and mixed forest,
cropland, meadow and marsh called out. (You may need to pan about
to find a marsh.) Farther north, you can find areas of heath, alpine meadow
and barren rock (there's a lot of that on the Gothics peak -
https://caltopo.com/l/QN17)

Here, I'm using third-party satellite data for land cover - OSM doesn't
have much in the way of landcover polygons where I am.

We really, really need to consolidate efforts into producing an OSM
topographic map series. Alas, all the topo mappers (myself included)
tend to be loners, and coordinating the effort is like herding cats.
What I'm doing is admittedly just a proof of concept - but it's what
I have the resources to manage.

Would it be possible to differentiate a bit more between wood and heath. 
Perhaps a paler green for heath

For Outdoor folks and Hill Walkers, they look ever so close in colour and 
I've needed to use a shape of a wood I can see from a hill to orientate 
myself to keep me on my path.

Currently I can't see woods very well, and need to drop into Maps.me to get 
me going.
I love the GPX analysis in osm and would dearly love to use if for outdoor 
pursuits a bit more.

I'm away for a few days, but will look back in next week to see if there is 
a reply :-)

I did not but that is not that easy with Android 6.
I now moved all maps to another folder, changed the directory to that one 
and downloaded this map there as well,
The dead file is still there but does not do anything.

I'm pretty sure it's related to OsmAnd as after updating it also lost all 
its maps and other apps couldn't access the sd card. After a few hours and 
restarting several times that's Ok again. This also happened the previous 
OsmAnd updates.

Umfang der Regionen in Frankreich

Hallo!
In Deutschland, Italien und der Schweiz heißen die Regionen ja genau so, 
wie die einzelnen Bundesländer, aber nicht in Frankreich.
Da hat OsmAnd denen einen eigenen Namen gegeben, wo bestimmt mehrere 
Departemments auf einmal drin sind, aber welche?
Zum Beispiel: Großer Osten oder Nordfrankreich usw. 
Wo fangen die an und wo hören die auf?
Und wieso ist ganz OsmAnd nur auf Sch Englisch? Sollte es nicht 
wenigstens eine Anleitung auf Deutsch geben?

Map not working and can't delete or update after update of OsmAnd

The last update of OsmAnd it made a mess of my phone again again. Somehow 
it does something with my sd-card, that will be Ok in the end but does take 
quite some time and all the photos in my gallery are double after every 
update.

But there is a new problem I haven't had before. I have several maps but 
one is not working (The version of index 'Netherlands_Flevoland_europe.obf' 
is not supported. 
If I try to download it that doesn't work as it claims that it can't delete 
the old file. If I try to delete/rename it myself, access is denied. The 
file is from 01-01-1970 according to the File Manger and 0.00 kb.
So I do not have a working map of this area which is quite problematic.

I do like osmAnd if it works but some of these issues are really annoying.

Does anyone know a way to fix this?
