Sorry, should be

The ofline osmand service is the default and it needs downloaded maps, you
could set osmand to use the OSMR online service, wich doean't need downloaded

Please forgive replying to my own post, but I think I've worked out why
this bug has appeared, but I've no idea how to fix it.

I grabbed the working Serbia_europe.obf file from my phone, and ran:

 ./inspector.sh -vpoi ../Serbia_europe.obf | grep -i drinking | head

there's lots of entries, but they all look like:

sustenance: drinking_water 33 Lat 42.178764 Lon 21.27775 osmid=4432989592
sustenance: drinking_water 61 Lat 42.176937 Lon 21.28011 osmid=4432989595

I grabbed the Austria_tyrol_europe_2.obf from osmand webserver, and ran:

./inspector.sh -vpoi ../Austria_tyrol_europe_2.obf | grep -i drinking |
head

again, lots of entries, but these ones look like this:

man_made: drinking_water Lat 47.40821 Lon 10.747333 osmid=454561186
man_made: drinking_water Lat 47.119236 Lon 11.679368 osmid=1361126744

Picking up my phone, doing a POI overlay of "man made drinking water" and
bingo, we have working POI, tho the icon is just an orange circle, not a
picture of a tap like it is with drinking water POI.

This leaves the question: Is this a bug with the maps i.e. they should be
"sustenance: drinking_water" as the app expects, or is this a bug with the
app, which is expecting "sustenance: drinking_water", but should expect
"man_made: drinking_water" ?

Re: 3.4.0 I'm very disappointed

I'm very disappointed that the 'turn screen on' pull request didn't
make it into 3.4.0. That would have been the most important new

happy to test it.

Along with many other Osmand users,I am also disappointed about the
loss of "Turn Screen On". It (is) WAS one the the importrant bonuses
of Osmand. Please can we have it back. ASAP. Paul W

See https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/issues/6675

Specifically this comment:

The current release doesn't include this feature, we had to remove
this option because of Google Play rules about the permission needed
to that action. We are trying to find a solution to get it back.

And, from this issue (linked from the one above):
https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/issues/6721

As explained in this OsmAnd tweet[1], the developers had to remove
this feature as Google temporarily removed OsmAnd from Google Play
  because of it.

 [1] https://twitter.com/osmandapp/status/1101771221493002240

The tweet says:

Unfortunately our OsmAnd+ was deleted from Google Play because of the
old functionality that requested device admin to turn on the screen
during navigation. As of today it is not within the guidelines, we
are working to disable that function and hopefully get restored

The reason it is gone (for the moment) was that if it had stayed,
Google would have kept OsmAnd removed from the play store. So no new
users could install OsmAnd from the play store. And, eventually, your
local OsmAnd might have been removed, against your wishes, by the
big-brother google-play app, to "protect you".

Is /no OsmAnd and all/ better than /have OsmAnd, but missing the 'turn
screen on'/ function?

And, if one reads to the bottom of the first github issue referenced
above, a user jnettels indicates how to install an older version of
OsmAnd (presumably the version from before Google's decision to delete
the app for their 'rules violation') and a user scaidermern indicates
how to tell the play store app to not auto-update away from that
version.

So, if you *really* can't live without the auto screen on-off feature
at the moment, you can install an older version, that will give you the
feature back. But you'll be stuck there until the developers finish
work on the plugin to provide the feature again.

And, as always, keep in mind how much money you paid for OsmAnd...
Free of cost also means cutting the developers (who are more often than
not volunteers doing this work in their free time) some slack. As
well, if one wishes to indicate the importance of this feature, a
message here does not help (as I doubt many of the developers read this
list). Posting a further "please prioritize this, I depend on it
because ..." item on the github issue is how to indicate importance to
the developers.

Visit https://www.wieliczka-saltmine.com/ Fantastic Salt mine (use an

http://auschwitz.org/en/ - No fun, but a once in a lifetime "must".
Zakopane - The mountains. Brilliant waliking. And some decent cycling in
the lower levels.
I once had a plan to cycle right across Poland from NW to SE. Maybe not
this year. :) Cycling in Netherlands is safer and hence more relaxing,
and some of it is over 1,000 ft!
