Re: Map size

2017-05-06 Thread john whelan
Do you really understand my issue? I'm not sure I have one. The existing
system and size of downloads work for me. I have prepared my own maps in
the past, but adding in the height stuff makes this more complex.

I have concerns and a concern is different to an issue.

To me the concerns are more that multiple people even ones who live in
Montreal are having to download maps of a far larger area than they have
requirements for. ie it wastes time downloading etc.

Most people live in cities so having a city based approach perhaps as an
alternative might suit them better.

I do understand your issue, but it is a difficult decision which city to
take and what to include, and why not Montreal in that case?

You can still make your own maps.
A couple of years ago I wrote an article about creating your own maps
especially for these kind of pruposes:

.
It was written for linux but it can be easily adapted for windows.

Map size

2017-05-05 Thread john whelan
I live at the boundary of Ontario and Quebec so I need both maps.

However most of Ontario is more than four hours drive away and I hate to
think how long it would take to cycle it.

Could some thought be given to making maps based on a city's location, that
would save 90% of my downloads and save a bit of storage on my device.
Currently Ontario is half a gig.

Thanks John
