Re: installation of Osmand~ nightly built apk file fails

2018-05-22 Thread 'Stephan75' via Osmand
Hi ...
how can we track down the reason for that mere error message "app not
installed"?

I installed an simplistic catlog viewer app, but was not able to see any
useful events while installing the osmand apk file.

Has anyone a better hint how to debug that situation on an android device?

Stephan

I tried to install the beta version 3.0.0 on a tablet and a smartphone. The
latter was successful. However, if I want to open the new menu, Reisgids
(beta), I get the message "OsmAnd is stopped"

Exactly what I meant - this is not the free space you need. The space for
app installation is in "system", much smaller than what you see (unless
rooted, and even so it is difficult to see free space for app installing ).
But I cannot be sure this is the exact reason - just a possible one.

The 700 MB are not what is needed to install an app. What you need at the
moment is free memory dedicated for installation of apps and that is not
the same as the memory on internal device. I don't know any way to see what
is available on device for this purpose - often the only sign is that the
install fails or the device says "not enough memory".

Not sure if this is the real reason. You could try to backup few (smaller)
apps, uninstall these, try to install Osmand and install the smaller apps
back. The reason it could work is that during the installation much more
memory is needed then the size needed for the app itself. Again, no idea if
this would help.
