Re: [outages] Comcast - Houston Outage

2018-03-27 Thread Braden McGrath via Outages
Don’t know if it was related, but they were doing scheduled maintenance last
night / this AM in other areas at least. I have a lot of sites in PA and they
were all down/up a few times starting at midnight and continuing until about
4:30am (US-Eastern). I was not impacted by whatever hit y’all in Texas though.

Yes, looks like it just came back up.

My timestamps are as follows

Down – 10:17:57 CDT

Up – 10:33:32 CDT

Looks like it was everything, Coax, Fiber (including DIA and Ethernet), so the
entire city with Comcast went dark.

Re: [outages] Verizon Wireless

2018-03-02 Thread Braden McGrath via Outages
I have a few buildings in PA that are on Comcast services (combo of private and
public) that were entirely down, and have just partially recovered in the past
10-15 min. This big ice/snow weather mess has been taking out stuff all over
the place, both power and lines.

I'd be kind of surprised if VZW is 100% Comcast for backhaul there though,
given that at least parts of PA have Verizon (wired) as the LEC (I would think
that VZW would try to ride VZ's own fiber whenever possible).

If only the US had a more diverse selection of connectivity providers across
all areas of the country... :(

Verizon Wireless appears to be completely down in Pennsylvania.

OS X Messages.app supports/accesses Hangouts via Jabber protocol. The
"official" Hangouts app(s) no longer do that though. Not sure how the various
web interfaces work. Presumably their Jabber gateway(s) is/are still up but
everything else is borked... logical explanation for your situation at least.

Re: [outages] Comcast/Level 3 Issues - Detroit/Chicago Areas -- Now CenturyLink today too?

2017-05-12 Thread Braden McGrath via Outages
The circuits bouncing is most likely Comcast doing rolling DOCSIS firmware
updates, assuming you all are seeing it on coax circuits. I've seen it as well
over in the VA region.

I've been seeing this same behavior. Connection bouncing, sometimes multiple
times, in the middle of the night. Had one branch office in IL bounce 3 times
night before last.

We have been seeing more issues in the last few weeks with our Comcast Business
customers also. Lots of offline alerts at night. Most in the same geographical
area and it seems like they are doing different areas each week.

No evidence though from them. When we call them there like what are you talking
about?

Does anyone have any information on some ongoing issues with Comcast in the
Michigan area since end of April that involve intermittent packet loss, latency
spikes (from normal 20 ms to 500+ ms), and just overall cruddy paths?

We're seeing issues with 3 of our sites in West/Central Michigan that use
Comcast Business for Internet as they route from Comcast to Level 3.
Traceroutes seem to die somewhere in Chicago or leaving Detroit either in Level
3 or at the edge of Comcast:
