Mum's Army

2001-11-22 Thread Jackie Mawson

A bit of light humour... Please don't take it too seriously, girls!

 Subject: Mum's army

 Fighters against the Taliban

Take all Australian women who are within five years of menopause - train
 us
for a few weeks, outfit us with automatic weapons, grenades, gas masks,
moisturizer with SPF15, Prozac, hormones, chocolate, and canned tuna -
 drop
us (parachuted, preferably) across the landscape of Afghanistan, and let
 us
 do what comes naturally.

Think about it. Our anger quotient alone, even when doing standard stuff
like grocery shopping and paying bills, is formidable enough to make
 even
 armed men in turbans tremble.

We've had our children, we would gladly suffer or die to protect them
 and
their future. We'd like to get away from our husbands, if they haven't
 left
already. And for those of us who are single, the prospect of finding a
 good
man with whom to share life is about as likely as being struck by
 lightning.
 We have nothing to lose.

We've survived the water diet, the protein diet, the carbohydrate diet,
 and
the grapefruit diet in gyms and saunas across Australia and never lost a
kilo. We can easily survive months in the hostile terrain of Afghanistan
 with no food at all!

We've spent years tracking down our husbands or lovers in bars, hardware
stores, or sporting events.finding bin Laden in some cave will be no
 problem.

Uniting all the warring tribes of Afghanistan in a new government? Oh,
please ... we've planned the seating arrangements for in-laws and
 extended
families at Christmas dinners for years ... we understand tribal
 warfare.

Between us, we've divorced enough husbands to know every trick there is
 for
how they hide, launder, or cover up bank accounts and money sources.

We know how to find that money and we know how to seize it ... with or
 without the government's help!

Let us go and fight. The Taliban hates women. Imagine their terror as we
crawl like ants with hot-flashes over their godforsaken terrain.

I'm going to write my local politician. You should, too!

Dear Rhonda and listers

When the baby has chosenA TRANSVERSE LY I FEEL IT IS TRANSIENT TO TURNING TO
LONGITUDANAL OR IT IS FOR COMFORT . Once it's been established that there is
no mechanical blockage ie placenta or tissue mass or structual abnormality
in uterus or baby then when contractions start the decree of comfort for
baby will quickly change and it will turn to longitudanal ly.
The problem is that some the membranes rupture prior to contractions and
that is why the doctor is so concerned ie there is a small but real
possibility that the cord could prolapse with the possibility of cutting of
the baby's life line .So I think in this instance the dr is acting in the
best interests of the mother and baby . Regarding advice talk to baby
visulise and turn acupunture at 38 weeks and decrease the level of comfort
ie sleep on side where head is and encorage to move . Which state is this
mother in I could recommend practitioners. lol jan

I just thought I should add that the lady was 34/35 weeks and she was one
of
quite a few women I know whose babies turned breech in the week following
the Sept 11 attacks. Anybody else notice this trend?

Two friends of mine, also lost their babies in the week after - one at 9
weeks, the other 13 weeks - and both mums convinced that the emotional
turmoil of Sept was a contributing factor.

 Interested in others observations,
 Toni

 Hi,
I am asking this for a friend,
she is small in stature and has been told that she has a large baby. She
is due in 4 weeks and the baby is in a transverse lie (perhaps because
she
is small and has run out of room!)

The ob has told her to stay home - no shopping, no walking, no anything
until she goes into labour and then to go straight to the hospital.
 She is not happy!

Can anyone give any advice on ways she might help the baby to turn back
if
 it can??

 Regards
 Rhonda.

Re: Reflexology

2001-11-22 Thread Vernon at Stringybark
Title: Re: Reflexology

I think that Quackwatch would be very keen to know what parts of their site are misleading or factually inaccurate. I am sure if you pointed out their errors, and you were right, they would be keen to alter the information presented. Skeptics do not deny the efficacy for modalities for the sake of denying things, they do it because the claims for the modality are not evidence-based. Where treatments are not evidence-based, consumers are often hurt, either physically or via their hip-pocket.

Members of the Skeptics community 'seek the evidence', and where the evidence is lacking are willing to speak out.

I wonder on what basis you make the claim that skeptics are 'clearly biased'? Is that on the basis that they seek evidence for claims and do not accept hearsay and anecdotal material as proof?

Just seeking evidence.

It is indeed sad that an internet site entitled quackwatch could be even remotely considered an appropriate reference for modality. The information contained is misleading, some is factualy inaccurate. How can a group belonging to the Skeptic Ring who are clearly biased be taken seriously??

Dear Jo - yes, I've seen it used for
mid-trimester abortion (20 weeks) too. The baby was born
alive and lived for several hours after the birth with no assistance
permitted. Hope I never see it again. Lois

Re: transverse lie

2001-11-22 Thread Lois Wattis

All good advice so far... no-one else has mentioned external cephalic
version though. I had this done (22 years ago!!) towards the end of my
third pregnancy as babe was alternating between breech and transverse. In
those days it was done in doctor's surgery once, and again in hospital
before induction. Vaginal birth was achieved but acynclitic, face
presentation... big epis. and much trauma (but that's another story.
Probably not related to ECV, more likely poor management of induction).
Just thought I'd add my bit. Best wishes, Lois

Midwifery contacts

2001-11-22 Thread Jane Palmer

Hi all

I am currently working on a new and improved version of my website. Have
decided to have a new section on my site listing midwives practicing over
Australia. A common complaint I hear is that is can be difficult to locate a
midwife in the local area - so hopefully this will be one step in helping to
solve the problem.

If you wish to be listed on my site can you email me your: Name, Address,
Phone numbers, email address, website address (if any) and the services you
provide. I'll let you know when it is all up and running

Cheers
