RE: prenatal group
Hi Megan I pronounce the 'mai' the same as 'my', but I suppose others have different pronunciations. 'Maia' was a fertility goddess, and the month of May was named after her - springtime, fertility c in the Northern hemisphere. I wasn't thinking of scrabble when I said we need to learn the word and use it! I want to make sure I say it correctly. It also looks like a good one to use when you have one of those awful all vowel scrabble hands! Meaghan, This is the sense of the word 'maieutic', which means 'pertaining to the midwife'. It's a word we all need to learn and use frequently. -- This mailing list is sponsored by ACE Graphics. Dear List I am a midwife who is currently doing a literature search, dissertation focusing on pregnant women with learning difficulties. I am particularly interested in terminology used by midwives ie labelling stigma. i have heard the term ESN ( educationally subnormal) used which is outdated and discriminatory when refering to women who may be on the 'at risk register'. The list which includes other catagories eg drugsand drink abuse / child abuse. I often have heard handover of care where some midwives refer to such women as she 's a bit slow nothing much up there and he'sjust as bad I feel that it is part of the culture.!!! I have also heard that this is done when midwives feel stressed!! There is very little written about this group of women and I would be grateful for any views, research and references about this. I would like to improve awareness of this growing group to enhance support. I look forward to hearing from you Dot _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx -- This mailing list is sponsored by ACE Graphics. Question for a Relative
Hi, My SIL's niece whom I met at Christmas dinner last year (we talked lots as were both preggo - and opting for Birth Centre deliveries etc.), birthed her first baby - a little girl - last Sunday. My SIL (Sherrill) informed me of this over the phone (we are interstate from one another) and I asked how it all went. She had been to see her the day afterwards and the birth had gone really well, but Sherrill said that bub had to be resuscitated and didn't breathe on her own until 3 mins after the birth. Sherrill was uninclined to ask the baby's parents if there were possible ongoing complications from this (didn't want to make them paranoid), but she remains quite concerned about the baby's health. I asked how she seemed and Sherrill said she was breastfeeding and had apparently passed a hearing test (which I presume was administered due to the delay in her breathing). I thought I'd check with you professionals as to whether that time frame of not breathing after birth was of concern in the medium to longer term. I only intend to ask for Sherrill, not the baby's parents. Jo -- This mailing list is sponsored by ACE Graphics. Visit http://www.acegraphics.com.au to subscribe or unsubscribe.

Macha McDonald wrote: [EMAIL PROTECTED]"> http://www.adlerbooks.com/bottlef.html oh yeah thats a bewdy:)) Sally was waiting at the grocery check-out with her formula cans when the woman in line behind her told her, "You know, formula is just not as good for babies as breastmilk." Another incident: Margaret was bottlefeeding her son in the park when another mother sat down beside her and began to nurse her toddler. The nursing mother asked if Margaret had ever nursed her child. Yes, Margaret answered (though somewhat stunned to be asked by a stranger about her personal life), adding, "I switched to formula at six weeks when I had to go back to work.". The nursing mother immediately told Margaret that she could have expressed milk while at work and that it was too bad she had given up nursing so soon. what a shame these bottle-feeding mothers didnt think that these other mothers may have been offering genuine concern her her child. If breastfeeding needs so many books to cover the subject fully, perhaps the reason is that there are a great many problems associated with breastfeeding, and the nursing mother should expect to need much expert advice. Instead of working her way through a pile of books trying to find the right one to help with her specific breastfeeding problem, a new mother would welcome a book that offers a simpler alternative, Bottlefeeding Without Guilt. anybody else see the total irony in this statement? (actually its quite funny). should we apply the same logic to the wealth of literature, videos, movies etc ad nauseum on sex? (substitute 'breastfeeding' with 'sex', 'nursing mother' with 'virgin', and 'Bottlefeeding without guilt' with 'Instruction manual for Vibrator'. Because of its controversial thesis, that bottlefeeding is just as good in many ways as breastfeeding, the book will certainly attract the attention (and arouse the ire) of organized breastfeeding advocates. It's to be expected that Bottlefeeding Without Guilt will be sharply attacked in certain quarters, thus generating much publicity for the book. The author is willing to go head to head with any breastfeeding leaders in the media in defense of the choice of the bottle over the breast. Breastfeeding has become something of a sacred cow (bad pun intended)-and anytime a sacred cow is gored, people take notice. The subject is one that the talk shows might very much like to milk (another bad pun intended). hm, yes I see.. jennifairy _ Do You Yahoo!?
