RE: [ozmidwifery] High babies

2006-02-17 Thread Vedrana Valčić
I have a friend whose baby is transverse (she's 32 weeks now) and as I was
searching the mail archives for some advice, I came up to this message. What do
you do with bicycle shorts? Just wear them and the baby turns?

Surely if this baby is truly stuck in a transverse position at term (and
there has been no mention of gestation) a C/S would be necessary?
Is she a primip or multi? How long has the baby been transverse and has
any
attempt been made to encourage it to a more favourable position?

  Dear Megan
If it were not such a sad situation you could laugh at the patronising
ignorance or is that arrogance and obsurdity of this Obs!

Sounds like the next step is C/s for babies who have the nerve to turn
around completely as that also stretches the uterus!

And of caourse he has not talk of the risks to mother and baby of
elective
  C/s on an arbitary date!!

RE: [ozmidwifery] cranio-osteopath

2006-02-17 Thread Sylvia Boutsalis

Hi all,
Does anyone know of a cranio-osteopath in Adelaide for an infant. The baby
was born with forceps and is showing signs of colic and is really unsettled.
I thought I could give the mother another avenue to explore.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sylvia,

In Adelaide I know of,

Andrea Wheatley in Nth Adelaide Ph 8361 8033, my kids I have all been
treated by her and I highly recommend.
Mile End Osteo clinic on Sth Rd, Abigail Abbott, ph 8354 4887. Also can
recommend personally.
Kensington Osteo, Barbara Mat Towers, Ph 8431 1166. They have 2 or 3
little ones themselves, but not sure about what their practice is.
Also Helen in Mt Barker, 8391 3298, not sure of her practice either.

They are all registered qualified Osteopaths.

In the yellow pages others are listed, often Chiros will carry this title as
well and say they do cranial work.

Hope this helps

Re: [ozmidwifery] High babies

2006-02-17 Thread Janet Fraser
Yes, that's it. I've also known a number of freebirthing mamas whose babies
were transverse at the start of labour and between cx and OFP the babies
moved down beautifully and were safely born at home.

I'm always uncomfortable with surgeons recommending surgery. Often OFP helps
transverse babies move quite perfectly.

HTH. Bicycle shorts sound weird but they seem to work!

Kelly,

This is such a grey area, it's like pro agin IOL, there isn't a right or
wrong answer. Only what works for the individual.

I am the last person to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do.
This whole topic has a long history (I have worked in a Mother/Baby Unit for
10 years on off) of getting you hung !
Women request help then if they don't like your message they shoot the
messenger, always when you aren't looking !!!

It's a lose/lose scenario, drop it!!

The only person I'm an expert about is myself.

With kind regards

Oh of course, no desire to tell anyone what to do - the idea isnt about
right and wrong at all, but I think that the person who joined the
conversation was doing so for promotional purposes :) Hence the request
for back-up in saying that mum knows best ;)
