Hi Kelly, I think this lady is referring to PAT (paroxysmal atrial tachycardia). Sometimes called atrial flutternot nice but doesn't kill you. It will cause you to faint though as the atrial 'flutter' isn't pumping the blood effectively up to your brain so you feel light headed. The pump (ie the heart)is providing only a weak surge of blood,ie it's fluttering instead ofcontracting strongly rhythmically. Broken down this means: paroxysmal ie comes in episodes or paroxysms. atrial= affecting the atrium of the heart Tachycardia = fast heart rate Cardiac arrhythmias are a documentedside-effect of Syntocinon. When I was in labour with Imogen I said to Daniel 'My heart is going to stop, I just don't think it can take anymore' and I could feel my heart so intensely thumping and hurting - I'd never felt it with the other 2 labours. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a quote from a book and I'm hoping someone may know it/the book/the author. The quote goes something like that midwives stand at the bedposts of life and death... such people are like rubies and that there will be no machines which go ping for me etc It was written by an Australian journalist, she spoke at a midwifery conference in Sydney either late 80's or early 90's and her book is titled something like Cats, cradles and (something...)
